Chapter 244 – One was talking seriously and one was listening seriously. (4)
Shortly, it was the day of the Youth Innovation Competition.
With the exception of the time that the teams had spent ahead of time, the organization only allowed each team 2-hour time to prepare on site.
As such, on the day of, Gu Xi, Sheng Xiuyan, and Dong Mingming went over the venue ahead of time.
A total of 20 teams made it to the final round and Gu Xi’s team got the middle location.
The exhibition area, platform, and exhibition board were all prepared ahead of time. As such, all Gu Nian and the others needed to do were to get the displays, the presentation, PPT, and their prototype tuned and ready.
Their time was somewhat tight. As such, as soon as they had arrived at the venue, the three of them got right to work.
With the exception of Gu Shao, Dong Mingming’s parents, along with Sheng Yi, who still had one more day remaining before he had to return to his troop, had also came.
All of the parents stood to one side and watched.
Gu Shao and Sheng Yi saw eye to eye on this. Tis was the matters of the children and they would let the kids to take care of them themselves. As such, both of them only stood nearby and watched instead of helping out.
Father and Mother Dong, who had wanted to help them out originally, had no choice but also to stand by and watch.
Two hours later, the exhibition commenced officially.
Seeing that everything looked fine with their children’s exhibition, the parents discussed among themselves and decided to walk around the venue so as not to distract their children.
“Is your plan to have Xixi followed in your footsteps in the future?” asked Sheng Yi with a smile.
Gu Shao, however, shook his head, “That’s not my plan.”
Pausing for little, Gu Shao added, “She can decide what she’d like to do.”
Having said that, Gu Shao glanced over at Sheng Yi and asked with his brows lifted. “You are going to have your son followed in your footsteps?”
“Probably not,” said Sheng Yi, feeling somewhat helpless. If Sheng Xiuyan also chose this path, Sheng Yi would probably never be allowed to step foot into his father-in-law’s place ever again.
The two fathers chatted from the kids future development the issues with their education. As though something had just occurred to him, Sheng Yi asked suddenly, “Do you think it’s likely for the to be in a relationship at this age?”
Gu Shao looked serious immediately upon hearing Sheng Yi’s question.
“There is certainly that possibility,” said Gu Shao, his voice deep.
Sheng Yi, too, nodded heavily. “Certainly. Kids already started heading in the direction of adulthood at this age. Nowadays, you can find anything online. They are not as innocent as we were when we were at their age.”
Having said that, Sheng Yi frowned again and said, “That being said, it is certain a challenge for a parent to tell whether their children are in a relationship.”
Gu Shao could not have agreed more when he heard that. He did not, however, let that show.
“Just ask them directly,” said Gu Shao.
“Ask them directly? Are you serious? You think they would just tell you the truth?” Sheng Yi lifted his brows.
Gu Shao did not reply to that question. He didn’t try it one way or another.
“Or through observation,” said Gu Shao after another pause. “It isn’t difficult to tell whether they are acting differently than usual.
“Like being on their phone all day long but not for playing games. Rather, they were chatting with someone. Or, hiding in their room and are on their phones rather than sleeping. Or they have a lot of different expressions on them when they are chatting on their phone and have expressions that are not normally seen on them……” Gu Shao listed out a lot of them that he had read online.
Sheng Yi, on the other hand, matched each and every single one of them to his own son’s behavior recently.
Oh boy. All of them were hits!
Sheng Yi looked more solemn.
“Then how do you think a parent should handle the situation?” Simple and crude interference wasn’t going to work, obviously.
“Just observe for the time being and see how far things has progressed. If they are merely fond of each other, you can try and influence that verbally. If they have already get to the point that the two of them considered themselves as being in a relationship…..” said Gu Shao.
Gu Shao shared with Sheng Yi everything that he had read online in the past. He had no idea whether they were good advice or not. He had never tried them himself.
And Sheng Yi listened to him attentively.
