Chapter 250 – She called him again and still no answer. (1)
Gu Shao had no idea that all of Gu Xi’s work was for the purpose of being able to join NTN officially and join the NTN security system project in the future. As such, Gu Shao was taken aback a little when Gu Xi brought that up but he smiled nonchalantly the very next second.
“Sure.” He said as he rubbed Gu Xi over her hand. “I’ll take you there over the holidays.”
He didn’t mind taking her to work with him when school was out for Gu Xi.
Thought Gu Shao to himself.
Then, something occurring to him, Gu Shao gave Gu Xi a serious look.
“You seem to care a lot about Lisa?” asked Gu Shao. It was phrased as a question but his tone was definitive.
Gu Xi was taken aback when she heard Gu Shao’s question.
“No……” She denied it reflexively.
Then, came to think about it some more, she didn’t seem to care a bit too much about Lin Yize’s white moonlight. No wonder Gu Shao found that odd.
“I wouldn’t say that I care a lot about her……” said Gu Xi in a low voice as she lowered her head reflexively and added, “Aunty Lisa, well, she reminds me of Song, em, my mom. So I did a double take.
“It was amazing how similar the two of them look.” Gu Xi added. She did her best in making it sound casual.
Gu Xi tried to simplify her answer but Gu Shao committed what she said to memory.
So, Gu Xi was looking at Song Kexin through Lisa?
Looking at Gu Xi, Gu Shao’s eyes flickered some.
He recalled a certain article that he had read a while back. Mentioned in there was: The importance of a mother’s influence during childhood.
So, one way or another, as a child, Gu Xi still yearned for her mother?
Unfortunately, Gu Shao could provide Gu Xi with the best in all areas but this one.
“Do you miss your mother?” asked Gu Shao as he studied Gu Xi carefully.
As though she had noticed the hint of nervousness and guilt in Gu Shao’s voice, Gu Xi’s heart dropped a little and she quickly shook her head and denied it. “No.”
As though trying to prove that she wasn’t lying, Gu Xi stressed again, “I don’t miss her at all.”
She was not lying nor was she just trying to make Gu Shao feel better.
What Gu Xi said was the truth. Perhaps she cared about the occasional attention from Song Kexin in the past but, after being sent over to Zhang Qiang’s place and her household register being transferred out on top of knowing the story arc in the future, she no longer had that desire.
She had no hope in Song Kexin.
Gu Xi only cared about what was going on with the Lin’s because of the story arc.
Gu Xi suddenly looked nervous when she recalled the story arc that followed.
“Dad.” Gu Xi tugged at Gu Shao’s sleeve reflexively.
“What is it?” Sensing the nervousness from Gu Xi, Gu Shao’s tone mellowed out.
Gu Xi wanted to remind Gu Shao to watch out for Lin Yize so she said to him, “That Lin Yize is not a nice person. He had a lot of ill intention and I felt that he had hostilities toward us.”
Gu Shao wasn’t surprised by Gu Xi’s assessment of Lin Yize but he, frowning a little, looked at Gu Xi and said, “These are matters between adults.”
As a child, Gu Xi should not need to worry about these.
Gu Xi, however, worried that Gu Shao did not take what she said seriously. Her hand that was holding onto Gu Shao’s sleeve tightened some and she added anxiously, “Really. You can look into it yourself, Dad. He had really done a lot of bad things.” And many of them just might be targeting the Gu family.
“Besides, besides……” Gu Xi gritted her teeth and said, “I’ve always had this dream, that Lin Yize will become very powerful and will do things to hurt Grandpa and the rest of you! He will accuse you of things that are not true! And he would hurt me……”
