Chapter 15
“Uh… I didn’t realize it took me that long.”
She knew it would take time to do master’s training, but it seemed like more time had passed than she expected in order to purify a completely blocked body.
“What happened inside?”
Lucas asked her with a worried look.
Looking at her body with those eyes while asking like that, it seemed they were worried if she had been hurt.
“I was just taking a look at the treasure…”
“Ha. Did you watch treasures for three days?”
The third brother was sharp.
With no excuse that made any sense even if she thought hard about it, Danae shrugged her shoulders and slowly turned away.
“I brought you a present, too.”
Danae handed three people the treasures she brought from the inside. She gave Lucas a book written in an ancient language, Baratheon a dwarf-made sword, and Cissé a staff with the heart of a dragon. The three people who had received an unexpected present quickly shut their mouths.
“My grandfather told me to do whatever I wanted. I wanted to give you three a present.”
“Hey…”
Cissé squeezed the staff and bit his lips.
‘You’re so touched, aren’t you?’
As soon as she thought that, a staff flew into her head.
“Did you think that you would not be punished if you gave a present? Huh?”
“Argh!”
Subsequently, Cissé started tapping her head with the staff.
‘No, not to avoid the situation, but rather to let them play the weapon.’
She curled up to avoid Cisse’s attack and quickly hid behind Lucas. Lucas raised his hand as if embarrassed, but steadily stopped the third brother’s attack.
“But if three days have passed, the results should have come out?”
“Result?”
“I’m talking about the Senate meeting.”
“Ah.”
Lucas, who was still acting as her shield, nodded.
“His Excellency has designated you as his successor. But there was a backlash from the Senate, so they decided to give you a test to see if you were the right person to be the heir.”
It was exactly as the Great Duke said.
“And this is the Senate’s test for you.”
Cissé handed Danae an envelope taken out of his arms.
The test proposed by the Senate was simple: it was to be educated as a temporary successor for three months and take charge of the family business. If it was concluded that she lacked the ability to run the Asinov family after a certain period of time, Lucas would marry a woman from a branch family and become the successor. No matter how educated one was, it would be difficult for a 13-year-old child who had just found out her true identity to show her abilities.
Isn’t it obvious that they were trying to make Lucas the successor somehow?
But Danae was willing to accept the obvious trap they had laid out for her.
Thus, according to the will of the Senate, she also had a teacher.
‘It’s not a bad thing.’
All of her knowledge was what she learned 500 years ago.
It is said that even after 100 years, the Jangsan Mountain will change, but since 500 years have passed, a lot of things must have changed.
(T/N: A mountain in Korea)
‘I need to update the knowledge I know.’
Even if it does not help with solving the problem of being a successor, the knowledge itself will be of great help to her. Just as the knowledge left to Danae by her Master is helping her to this day.
The Senate recommended some teacher candidates – probably not good ones – but her grandfather skipped everyone and sent Danae the person he chose.
His name was Jaydin Latessa.
As the name suggests, it was Haydin’s brother.
“What’s kind of person is Haydin’s brother?”
“Brother…”
He squinted his eyes as if he was having trouble thinking of an answer to Danae’s question.
“In fact, we’ve spent more time apart than we’ve been together. It’s hard to say that we know each other well.”
“Is it because Haydin is part of the Knights of Mist?”
Haydin was a knight of the Order of Mist, the symbol of the Asinov family. Unlike the Imperial Knights of the Golden Lion, who were chosen based on their backgrounds, it is said that the Knights of Mists are chosen for their ability and skills.
“Yes, I joined the Mist Knights Division at the age of 15, and my brother joined the Tower around the same time.”
“The Tower? Is your brother a wizard?”
“It’s not just wizards who are in the tower. My brother is the one who studies and researches theories.”
“I see.”
But the thing Danae was most curious about was something completely different.
“Is your brother strict?”
“Ha ha. That’s what you were most curious about, isn’t it?”
“That’s the most important thing for a student.”
“He’s a good person. There’s a tendency to look down on people, but smart people generally do that, right?
“Lucas isn’t like that.”
“Well, he would be the exception.”
While talking to Haydin about her teacher, the time for the first class came closer. She dressed more modestly than usual and headed to the library. It was her first time taking a class in earnest like this.
In her previous life, she was first pushed into a situation and then learned it, so it was more survival than it was a class.
When Danae entered the study, she saw a man with red hair who was seated. He was similar to Haydin, but a little smaller and wore glasses.
As she entered, the man got up from his seat and bowed his head.
“My name is Jaydin Latessa. Starting today, I’ll be in charge of the young lady’s class.”
“Yes, I heard you’re Haydin’s brother. I look forward to your kind cooperation, Lord Latessa.”
At those words, Jaydin greeted Haydin, who stood behind her. There was a bit of awkward feeling between the two, maybe it’s been a long time since the brothers saw each other.
“You can call me by my name. I’m sure since there are two Latessa’s, it will be a bit confusing.”
“Is Jaydin all right, then?”
“Yes.”
“Okay, then Mr. Jaydin.”
She also felt more comfortable with this arrangement rather than calling him Sir Latessa.
“So what am I going to learn?”
“Shall we start off with the basics?”
Jaydin pulled a book from the shelf and opened it in front of her.
The book contained a map of the Empire.
“As you know, the Mist Mountains block all the northern parts of the empire. Beyond this, this is where the demons are…….”
“The Archmage Pamel built a barrier and drove them away.”
“Yes. However, 15 years ago, there was a problem with the barrier, and the demons are appearing one by one. It’s a big headache.”
“Why did the barrier weaken?”
Jaydin shook his head at her question.
“Nobody knows.”
“Nobody?”
“Yes, we couldn’t find a solution. Although the wizards of the tower are repairing it every year, it’s still not enough since they can’t fill all the gaps.”
If it’s not the problem on this side, maybe it’s because of what’s going on on the other side?
Then it may seem that Blanche would know why.
‘I’ll ask him when he gets back.’
“Then, it turns out that Jaydin is from the tower, right?”
“That’s right. I’m not a wizard though.”
“But you must have been in the Tower at the same time as Cissé.”
“That’s right. He was only there for a short time, but the time we were both there overlapped.”
“Short period?”
“Yes, Young Master Cissé was only there for three years.”
“In those three years, he mastered all the magic skills and was given the title of Sage…”
“Yes.”
“Wow. What a monster.”
Most of the wizards did not reach the level of Sage even if they spent their whole lives working toward it.
However, Cissé received the title of Sage after only three years.
Hearing her words, Jaydin relaxed his stiff look and smiled.
“You said what I couldn’t say. Yes, that’s right. The monster was a monster.”
“How was Cissé at the Tower? Is he still the same?”
“That’s also something I couldn’t, yes. That’s right. He’s always been alone.”
An unsociable, young genius boy who came into the tower
It was obvious how he would have lived in the tower.
“Are you interested in the Tower?” Seeing Danae deep in thought, Jaydin asked.
“Yes.”
The Tower. She was curious.
This is because the Tower did not exist 500 years ago.
“The tower was built by Pamel, the Archmage of Asinov. After killing the Demon King, he created an educational institution to cultivate the next generation, which is how the Tower came to be.”
“So you’re saying the Tower belongs to Asinov?”
“Technically yes. The Tower, like the Knights of the Mist, is under the command of the Grand Duchy of Asinov. But if nothing special happens, it operates as an independent entity.”
“Wow.”
Sword and magic, plus power and wealth.
It’s hard to have just one, but Asinov had it all.
‘And the beginning of it all stemmed from my death.’
“Wow, it has so much wealth and power that I’m scared that there would be enemies everywhere.”
“Well, yes. It’s natural that there would be many enemies as Asinov is very powerful.”
“But it managed to survive to this day.”
“Because Asinov is strong.”
It was a simple answer.
There are many enemies but they survived because they are strong. Even if it was attacked, it will not fall.
‘The fall of Asinov is my goal!’
The enemy of the enemy is an ally……’
She thought it would be a great help to identify allies with the same purpose as her.
“So who is Asinov’s biggest enemy?”
“It would be treason to say it,” said Jaydin with a slight smile.
‘The biggest enemy is the imperial family.’
Come to think of it, it was a natural answer. Long history, enormous power and wealth, and the power to protect it.
A family who has everything would be a threat to any Imperial family.
“Well, but the story could be a little different this time around.”
“Why would the story change?”
“There is a young lady in the Asinov family and a young master in the imperial family. In addition, they’re about the same age. The conditions show good compatibility.”
