Chapter 3
“Sarah.”
The moment he called my name, tears flowed from Carian’s beautiful green eyes.
“What? Why are you crying!”
He bit his red lips silently. His beautiful face looked miserable, as if he were suppressing something. He lowered his head slightly, tears falling as he moved.
Who made him cry! I followed his gaze with a restless heart and noticed his hand clutching a small purple-colored paper tightly to the point his veins popped out.
No way, is that again the letter? Didn’t I put them all away earlier? Where did it come from?
As I tilted my head, Carian pointed to the underside of the desk while continuously crying.
It must have fallen off when I opened the package earlier.
“Don’t cry!”
“Sarah, are you by chance, having an affair?”
Is it the wind? Can one make such a nonsensical claim when you see how chaotic it is these days?
I frowned.
“What nonsense are you talking about?”
“Are you… going to dump me?”
He eventually leaned toward me, buried his face on my shoulder and sobbed. It was, of course, pretty to witness the most handsome bachelor in the empire cry in my arms, but it was also frustrating not knowing why.
I took the purple envelope he was holding. The now-crumpled letter contained a few concise sentences without a signature as always .
[To Lady Sarah.
I hope the secret shared between us won’t bother you. But through this, you will see my sincerity.
I repeat, I only thought of you more than anyone else in the world.]
“Sarah, what relationship do you share with the sender?”
Carian asked grimly. Before I knew it, he wrapped his arms tightly around my waist as if I would be taken away.
Damn. I don’t know who wrote it, but whoever it was, it was very misleading.
“Okay. And that’s how it happened. Have I cleared up the misunderstanding?”
I handed over the letter and even the book that presumably contained parts of the prophecy written there. But then, he told me that whatever he had thought was a useless suspicion.
“Nevermind. I believe you even without this.”
Carian said, as he saw the half-naked men clinging to the woman on the cover; he pushed it with his fingertips as if it was something dirty.
However, he spoke while there are still traces of tears- his cheeks and his long eyelashes were still wet.
“What? You’re not going to check it? You don’t have anything else to say later?”
“I trust you.”
Even as he vowed, there was still a hint of dissatisfaction on his face, as if his doubts were only lessened and not dissipated. I wiped his face, but his words gave me a sudden heartache, and I tossed the handkerchief away.
“No, of course you trust me! Who do you believe in now? Do you understand what’s going on?”
“Ah, no. I…”
He caught the handkerchief on reflex, then looked at me as he rolled his eyes in embarrassment.
“Who’s cheating on you in the future? Read it for me! What? ‘She no longer holds my heart. So love me’?”
“No! I hold no feelings towards any woman other than you! You know you’re the only one for me!”
Carian expressed his resentment as the tips of his eyebrows drooped.
“What’s wrong? What upsets you?”
“Nothing! It’s nothing really.”
He turned his head away. The light through the window cast a dark shade on his face. Above it, his gorgeous blonde hair shone brightly in the light.
‘What do you mean nothing! You’re like a miserable beauty that was abandoned.’
“Carian.”
“…..”
‘I’m sorry, but I won’t know unless you exactly tell me. Do you truly wish not to tell me?”
Carian had been looking elsewhere while pretending ignorance, and now flinched.
“I just…”
He slowly turned his head back toward me. His appealing eyes looked at me pitifully.
He shook his head while staring intently at me as if he had reached a decision.
“I was upset that you didn’t tell me the secret shared between you and that bastard, and I was sad that I am not worthy of your trust. Above all, I was jealous…”
Carian’s voice rambled on. The tip of his ears were bright red. It was trivial of him to cry and get upset about it, but at the same time, he was lovely like an elf.
‘Hey, why does no matter what he does, he still looks beautiful.’
It has been said that there are many handsome men and beautiful women in the Imperial family since its founding, but among them, Carian’s appearance was outstanding to the point that he only inherited the good features.
Gorgeous blonde hair, straight thick dark eyebrows, and deep green eyes that sparkled like jewels. The sharp nose bridge and the exquisite chiseled chin, as if it were carved, gave off a sleek yet strong and manly impression.
In addition, his physique itself was already superior. Due to his height more than half a span taller than any other knight, his broad shoulders and long, strongly muscled legs, he couldn’t help but stand out from the crowd anywhere.
His face itself was the definition of cold-blooded beauty, and perhaps because of the power I had enjoyed since birth, I felt a little intimidated although I didn’t really understand why.
Someone has commented that it was similar to the feeling of facing an elegant leopard or a giant silver wolf alone.
‘But it’s amazing that the leopard and the wolf act like a cute cat and dog toward me.’
People around me say it’s amazing that such a handsome man is desperately tied to me, and I actually think the same. It’s okay now, but at the beginning, I didn’t quite understand why he was acting like that.
– That’s it, it’s because of the affection. The one who originally loves first gets attached. Don’t animals act like babies?
He stared at me for a moment with a quizzical look on his face, he then soon smiled so deep that his dimples showed.
As Carian claimed, he loved me first so it wasn’t unusual for him to cling to me. In fact, leopards are from the cat family, and wolves are cousins to dogs, right?
And in that sense, it was not at all incomprehensible that Carian was sometimes anxious while engaged with me.
‘You should have forced me to get engaged.’
We eventually were engaged as he wanted, but sometimes he would seem uneasy with my reactions, perhaps because he thought he had achieved this by force.
I don’t love Carian as much as he loves me, but that doesn’t mean I don’t hold any feelings towards him. If I hated him, I wouldn’t let myself get engaged even if he threatened me with power.
The emotional temperature may be a little different, but I think of him well enough. So I think the gloomy and sullen appearance of this handsome bachelor is a little cute, funny, and a little sad.
This time, I sighed inwardly at the sadness that was rushing in.
“Look, Carian. Haven’t I told you everything? I’ve never told you this before.”
“Right?”
He shook his head with an expression of relief.
Whether it is the handsome Bachelor of the Century, the restraint of great power, the future powerful man trusted by the Crown Prince, or the possessor of the rare ability of magic swordsman, beyond all that, he is my fiancé and my future husband
Ah. In that sense, there was something I had to point out!
“Carian. In that sense, Dear, I’m warning you!”
“What?”
Seeing my grim expression, he tilted his head.
“If you cheat on me, I will kill you!”
“Yes?”
“First off, I will file an astronomical amount of lawsuits with all possible claims I can make, such as marriage impersonation, fraud, breach of promise, etc. And I’m going to turn public opinion in my favor by spreading rumors that you’re a playboy all over the neighborhood!”
Do you think that’s all? I’m going to ruin all the businesses of the Grand Duchy. I will also mobilize all the artists sponsored by the Count to produce a series of immortal masterpieces accusing you of betrayal, and distribute them throughout the ladies’ salons I attend to make sure everyone knows your deceitful ways! Fu fu fu!
As I announced I would spread rumors of the casanova’s change of heart to the society, I got excited by my own invective and opened the desk drawer. I checked the business cards to see how many lawyers I could mobilize right away.
Dennis, Rohr, Potter, Seymour. Come to think of it, these people specialize in trade and monopoly sales, right? I see, there aren’t any lawyers specializing in family law and divorce yet. I’d better get to know the most famous lawyers just in case.
“Sarah.”
“Why, Are you scared?”
But Carian didn’t look afraid at all. Rather, as if his earlier crying was a lie, he was looking at me with a smiling face.
“What?”
“Are you obsessed with me?”
“I was about to faint because I was so happy,” Carian smiled brightly.
“How did you interpret it like that? Listen seriously!”
“Yes, yes! But it’s so good. I was worried because it seemed I was the only one who liked Sarah every time. You’re jealous of something that doesn’t even exist!”
He looked at me with his chin in his hands and muttered he was happy.
Phew! It’s done, it’s done! In the first place, it seemed that I took this kind of joke too seriously.
I leaned deeply into the chair and shook my head. Still, in any case of unexpected events, I started returning the letters and the book to the safe.
“Ah? For a moment!
He stopped me with a serious expression.
