27. — Picnic! Picnic? (1)
“…I think it’s because there’s something wrong with the drug.”
“….”
“Eli said that there wasn’t anything wrong this time, though Lily and I think that the drug might be a failure again.”
“….”
“Actually, this is not the only time Eli was confident. In the beginning, he continued to say that there were no errors or defects in his work, but it never had the same effect as he thought.”
Cain’s gaze slowly reached me as I spoke, blurring the end of my words. As I narrowed my brow at his intensely clinging gaze as if trying to find out what was going on inside of my feelings, he raised the corners of his lips playfully.
“Then, what if the drug is properly made this time?”
“Yes?”
“If it was a properly made drug this time, under what circumstances did the wizard say that you would return into a human form?”
I bit my lip in response to his persistent question.
…Does he want me to say it now? That I fell in love with him and turned into a human, huh…? I felt like I was going to be put to shame right away just thinking about it, so I shook my head and replied.
“Your Highness really doesn’t need to worry about this at all, really.”
“What do you mean?”
“Honestly, if there’s any possibility, I’ll tell you but it was really nonsense.”
I responded by shrugging my shoulders at Cain.
…Yeah, frankly, that is ridiculous. Did I fall for the male lead? If I did not really want to die, it was nonsense. I would rather it be right that my heart was fluttering for a moment at that perfect face. The next moment, a shallow laugh leaked out of his mouth as I shook my head and moved my body slightly.
Again, I was curious to see him smiling more than what was described in the novel, although he turned his gaze out the window.
“Oh, we must’ve arrived.”
The carriage, which had been running diligently with the horse, came to a timely stop. For a moment, I tilted my head at the beautiful natural scenery outside the window, and Cain, who got off the carriage first, reached out to me.
“Are we going to get off?”
“Why? Do you need a survival kit this time, too?”
At his teasing words, I glared at him playfully before grabbing his hand and getting off the carriage. As I took Cain’s hand and went down to the ground, I could see an emerald-colored lake. I hurriedly turned to him in surprise at the unexpected sight. Meanwhile, he raised an eyebrow and opened his mouth.
“I seem to have succeeded in surprising you.”
I looked at Cain, who was still looking at me as if possessed. Embarrassment surged as I watched the unrealistic sight in front of me and him waiting for my words.
“Where, where are we?”
“It’s a place called Lake Beach near the south gate of Aren. They say it’s a good place for lovers to have a picnic.”
Hearing his answer, I stared at him quietly since I could not understand what he was saying. Cain, who squinted his eyes for a moment at the sight of me with my brows narrowed, tilted his head crookedly and asked back.
“Are my words difficult to understand?”
“Oh, no. It’s not like that…”
“Then?”
“So, why do you and I…be at Lake Beach, where it’s good for picnics…?”
Cain raised the corners of his lips slowly in response to my question.
“Because we’re lovers?”
“…Yes?”
“I thought we were lovers, but I guess we were not?”
…Cold.
Is this what it feels like when they say a voice like a winter breeze…? His face, which had been smiling like the sunshine in the spring disappeared and he was now looking at me with a face that became colder than ever. I swallowed dry saliva at Cain’s expression as he persisted in a lower voice than before.
“Does the Young Lady ask to kiss someone who is not even your lover?”
“Yes?”
“I think that’s going to be very difficult in the future if that’s the case.”
At Cain’s cold expression, a loud warning sounded in my head. Feeling the red sign of survival lit red, my mouth moved voluntarily against my will.
“Ah, I was going to ask you to be, of course.”
“….”
“Obviously, that should only be done between lovers! Is, is it our first day starting from today?”
As I raised the corners of my mouth as much as I could, a smirk leaked out from the corners of his lips, which had been hardened earlier. When I saw his slightly relaxed face, I felt relieved. I then gazed into Cain’s eyes and said cautiously.
“Well, the scenery is pretty… Shall we take a walk?”
“Before that, aren’t you hungry?”
“Hungry?”
“At the Imperial Palace and at a cafe a while ago, you didn’t eat or drink anything.”
That, that is right.
It was as though I was going to get indigestion at the palace, and how much money did it cost at the cafe! Of course, as I have said many times, Count Blaise had a lot of money. That meant that Adelia, his precious only daughter, would not have to worry about it while buying dessert since he was the second richest after the Emperor in the Lian Empire.
…If only I were the real Adelia Blaise!
The problem was that I was not the real Adelia Blaise, and even though it had been a year since I got possessed into this body, I, having lived in poverty for over twenty years, had not yet given up on my poor mindset. I was just an unknown writer who had never held a million won in my hand in my previous life. While I spent my whole life worrying about food expenses, I eventually died of starvation.
