Chapter 11: You Want to Murder Your Husband
Translator: Henyee Translations Editor: Henyee Translations
Chaucer was leaning against the sofa and drinking water. Suddenly, he felt a strong gust of wind coming from him. He dodged and the lamp smashed into his shoulder.
Bang!
Chaucer cried out in pain and gritted his teeth. “Mila!”
Hearing the man’s voice, Mila was stunned. She quickly ran over to turn on the lights in the living room and panicked when she saw the man sitting on the sofa with anger in his eyes.
Oh no! She had just hit Chaucer with the table lamp. The shirt on his shoulder had been cut, revealing a fresh wound.
It was hard to imagine what would happen if the lamp hit Chaucer’s head. Would she become a widow?
“Chaucer, I didn’t do it on purpose. I’m sorry. I thought you were a thief!”
Mila looked apologetic and quickly went to find the medicine box. She unbuttoned Chaucer’s shirt and cleaned his wound with iodine.
Chaucer was in great shape without a trace of extra fat. His skin was fair, and his collarbone was well-defined. This was the first time Mila was so close to a young man, and he was wearing disheveled clothes. However, she didn’t have any romantic thoughts and was filled with guilt.
“Mila, are you trying to murder your husband?” Chaucer’s gaze fell on the lamp.
Even though it had cut his shoulder, the lamp was still intact. He had to admit it was really well-made.
Mila lowered her head and helped him clean his wound. Before she knew it, her eyes were filled with tears, and she said with a sobbing tone, “I was muddle-headed from sleeping. I thought you were a thief, so I hit you with the lamp. I really didn’t do it on purpose.”
She blamed herself and forced herself not to cry.
“Don’t you know how to stay out of danger’s way? If a thief really came in, you should have hidden in the bedroom and called the police, not come out with a lamp and fight for your life.” Chaucer glared at her.
“I learned martial arts when I was young. Ordinary people can’t beat me.” Mila sniffed, looking a little aggrieved.
Chaucer sneered. “With your little fists?”
He sized up Mila. She was wearing a pink silk nightdress. Because her frame was too small, the straps on her shoulders had slipped off, revealing her snow-white skin.
Chaucer looked away and cleared his throat. “If you appear in front of another man dressed like this, can you guarantee you can escape unscathed?”
Mila looked down. As she had just woken up from her sleep, she wasn’t wearing any underwear. She was only wearing a thin nightdress, and the straps had slipped off her shoulders.
She quickly adjusted her shoulder straps with a blush. After packing up the medicine box, she hurried back to her room.
After returning to her room, Mila put on her underwear and a knee-length dress before walking out of the bedroom.
Hearing that Chaucer had returned home as soon as he got off the plane, she knew he definitely hadn’t had time to eat. Mila felt guilty and asked softly, “Chaucer, let me cook some wonton for you.”
“Don’t bother,” the man replied angrily.
“Alright, I’ll cook my own if you don’t want to eat.” Mila walked to the kitchen with a look of pity.
Chaucer gritted his teeth and became even angrier. “Can’t this woman persuade me? Why did she let it go just like that?”
“Who said I’m not eating? I’ll give you a chance to atone for your sins. Make me some wonton.”
“Okay!” Mila agreed with a smile. Looking at Chaucer’s angry expression, she suddenly felt this man had a cute side.
Mila took out the shrimp wonton she had made in advance from the fridge and cut a plate of spiced beef from yesterday.
When the water in the pot was boiling, she carefully put the wonton in. After boiling them for five to six minutes, he scooped the wonton into a bowl and added salt, pepper, soy sauce, and sesame oil. Then, he poured hot soup on it. Two bowls of hot wonton were ready.
“The wonton is ready. Eat it while it’s hot.”
As soon as Mila said that, Chaucer walked over. He had injured his right shoulder, and it hurt as soon as he raised his hand. He could only eat the wonton with his left hand.
Chaucer ate one wonton after another. With the sauced beef, he finished everything in no time. He had to admit Mila was a great cook, which was also the reason why he decided to marry her.
“I’m done. I’m going to bed.” Chaucer placed the bowl in the sink and got up to leave.
“Alright, get some rest.”
Chaucer nodded and went into the bedroom. Although it wasn’t a peaceful night, he got to see the other side of Mila. She would tear up from her guilt and clean his wound gently. She would cook wonton for him at four in the morning.
Her actions seemed sincere. She was such a gentle and kind little woman. However, he had also seen her flaws. She could be impulsive and often made mistakes. She actually mistook her husband for a thief.
