I Will Always Love You - Chapter 43
Chapter 43: Because He’s the Most Handsome III
The host who was standing onstage felt a little bit dazed upon witnessing this scene.
It seemed to be a little different from what they’d rehearsed beforehand…
When they’d rehearsed earlier, Class One’s homeroom teacher was supposed to have been the one carrying the flowers up onstage to the student who was the lead dancer. Then the host was supposed to interview the teacher and ask him what he’d felt about the performance. Then the student who had received the flowers would offer some New Year’s greetings to everyone in the audience. Now the situation in front of them seemed to have gotten completely out of hand…
The host decided to bite the bullet and started talking with a big smile.
“This little friend that brought the flower up on stage, please stay, stay.” He then asked Xiaotu with a big smile on his face, “Little friend, may I ask what your name is?”
“My name is Bai Xiaotu. Bai, as in white. Xiao, as in little. Tu, as in little white rabbit!” Xiaotu glanced up at the host and replied in a clear, loud voice as she tugged at Cheng Zhiyan’s shirt.
“All right, little friend Xiao Baitu…”
“It’s Bai Xiaotu!”
“Uh, okay…all right, little friend Bai Xiaotu.” The host wiped some sweat from his forehead and asked Xiaotu, “May I ask why you gave the flowers to this classmate? Didn’t the other brothers and sisters do a good job dancing as well?”
“Because he’s the most handsome.” Xiaotu leaned close to the microphone as she responded loudly, “And because I like him the most.”
PUFF! “Ha, ha, ha, ha…” A roar of laughter erupted from the audience below the stage.
A flush spread all over Cheng Zhiyan’s face.
“Oh…so you think this older brother is the most handsome. That’s why you gave him the flowers, huh? So, what do you think? Is this older brother more handsome, or am I more handsome?” The host started teasing Xiaotu.
“Brother Orange Juice is the most handsome.” Xiaotu responded to the host in a loud voice.
“Wave upon wave, the Yangtze River flows. New people overtake the elder generation.” The host said to the audience with a hangdog expression.
The audience roared with laughter again.
“This handsome boy who has received the flowers, you are Cheng Zhiyan from Class One of the fourth grade, am I right?” The host placed the microphone near Cheng Zhiyan as he asked with a smile.
“Yes.” Cheng Zhiyan replied nonchalantly.
“May I ask what New Year’s greetings you have for everyone?”
“Happy New Year.”
“Anything else?”
“Study hard.”
“Um…anything else?”
“…..” Cheng Zhiyan gave the host a weird look, then, not having anything else to say, resorted to, “Make progress every day.”
“Hee, hee, hee…hee, hee, hee.. Those are really… some words of blessing…” AHEM! AHEM! The host laughed awkwardly, then, in an attempt to lessen the awkwardness, he said, “But there is a proverb that goes something like this: the gift itself may be small, but the goodwill is deep. Although this student only gave a few brief words of blessings, those blessings contained his warmest feelings. For all the students present, your main responsibility is to focus on your grades, so you must remember that you must study hard and make progress every day, all right?”
“All right!” All the students shouted together in loud voices.
“Great, let’s thank the students in Class One of the fourth grade for bringing us this wonderful performance. Now let’s welcome…” The host smiled as he sent away the students who had finished performing, and proceeded to announce the next segment of the program.
With the bouquet of flowers in one hand and Xiaotu’s little hand held firmly in his other hand, Cheng Zhiyan slowly walked to the back of the stage.
