47. It’s just a dream. (2)
When she opened one eye to see who it was, she immediately encountered blood-red eyes.
Joshua opened his mouth.
“Do you have anything you want to say to me?”
So-hee’s eyes were round with shock at the unexpected line.
“Are you sure you want to die like that?”
The contents of the dream had changed.
It wasn’t the flow she had written in the novel.
“You’re going to kill me anyway.” Sohee murmured.
The red eyes staring at her held a darker glow, carefully scanning Ariad’s shabbiness before pulling out a sword.
Joshua smirked vapidly.
“And you’re a bitch. I forgot about it for a moment.”
He raised his sword.
Sohee’s face crumpled when the sunlight reflected on the blade’s edge poked her eyes.
Was dying directly in his hands still a dream when she was killed in so many different ways?
It was about time she executed that silly idea.
Suddenly, she heard a child crying right next to her and she turned her head to the side.
Upon noticing that the baby had grey wisps of hair, a cold voice fell from above.
“You want me to save the kid? That’s ridiculous.”
Joshua’s sword split the air but it wasn’t directed at her.
The blade quickly penetrated the child’s small body.
So-hee froze in shock.
“It’s your fault that this baby died.”
As she froze like a marble statue, Joshua approached her and bent one knee to look her in the eye.
“It’s all your fault, Sohee.”
When she heard her name out of the blue, her heart ached so much that she clutched her chest.
Subsequently, her field of vision gradually dimmed but the familiar voice still kept ringing in her ear.
“——Ad.”
It was similar but quite different from what she heard earlier.
“Ariad.”
As soon as she opened her eyes in the dark, she met Joshua’s blood-red gaze.
It was similar yet different from the Joshua she had seen in the dreams.
“Don’t cry.”
The back of his hand gently swept her tear-stained cheeks.
When she came to her senses,Sohee rubbed the tears from her eyes with her hands.
“What? Why am I crying?”
It was the first time she cried in her dream.
She smiled awkwardly, thinking that she must have been too immersed in it.
The gorgeous eyes searching her face were deep and straightforward, resembling what she had seen in the dream.
The difference was that… his eyes were sweet right now but the man in his dreams had a gaze filled with hatred.
Sohee knew it well.
It was funny how love would feel like it would last forever but could easily shift into resentment in the blink of an eye.
She had experienced it directly from her parents who abandoned her when she was young.
The man, who had been looking at So-hee for a long time with his arm on the bed, reached out his hand to wipe her pale forehead delicately with his long fingers.
“What kind of dream did you have that it made you sweat like this?”
“A vivid nightmare.”
Sohee summed it up just like that and the hand, stroking her forehead, fell down.
Joshua hugged Sohee tightly in his arms.
“Ariad, it’s just a dream.”
A large palm slowly patted her back.
Then, came the sound of calm speech.
“It’s just a dream.”
* * *
After a few months, the doctor was quickly brought back to the castle.
And as the days went by, a dark shadow had fallen around Ariad’s eyes.
Every time she had a doctor’s check-up, Joshua was informed that her paleness was due to stress but that wasn’t true.
Sohee suffered from nightmares every single night and it was the same dream all over again about her baby’s death.
The dream always ended with Joshua calling Sohee’s name.
“It’s all your fault, Sohee.”
Due to the nightmares, just hearing her name uttered by Joshua in real life caused her discomfort.
Exhausted from lack of sleep, Sohee rubbed her bloodshot eyes.
“I’m glad you don’t have morning sickness these days, My Lady.”
Mary, who brought her meal on the tray, chatted as usual.
Her eyes were on Ariad’s bulging stomach under the covers.
“I’m really looking forward to the baby. Lady Ariad and the crown prince are both beautiful people so your child would probably look pretty as well. If it’s a daughter, it’s usually said that she will resemble her father more, and if it’s a son, he will look like his mother.I think both daughter and son will be beautiful.”
So-hee, who was holding a fork and rummaging through the salad, murmured to herself while listening to her words.
“Will the child be able to resemble Joshua?”
“What do you mean? Of course, they’ll look alike. Oh! Sometimes they tell me that I look just like my grandmother. You’re so beautiful that you don’t have to worry about that, Your Highness.”
“What if she takes after Her Majesty the Empress?” She muttered helplessly and Mary gave her a strange look.
“What are you talking about?”
Sohee wanted to be honest with her.
This soon-to-be-born child might have gray hair.
What should she do if that happens?
It was a moment when I understood the feelings of those who shouted that the king’s ears were donkey ears.
“What if the child has a different hair color?”
Finding the question nonsense, Mary still replied kindly. “I don’t know why you’re worried about that, but can a child have a different hair color?”
“It shouldn’t be.”
