It’s no use regretting it. (1)
Thanks to the recently hired employees, the empty yet large mansion had certainly become livable. To feel the warmth of the sea breeze, Sohee left the window open while listening to the rustle of newspaper on the table. Every time So-hee said she was bored, one of the servants would bring a newspaper to her whenever she went out to shop. It was a perfect time for her to read and write leisurely because Deon wasn’t hovering around. Ariad’s face was on the newspaper’s main article these days, making Deon angry.
“If someone holds a newspaper, don’t look at it.” He would say even if the articles didn’t hurt So-hee.
As usual, Sohee read the contents while humming a song. It appeared like Ariad Pearson’s story was piping hot. Almost everyone had her name spilling in their god-damned mouths. They never stopped talking about her eloping with another man after carrying his child and that she slept with so many men that she couldn’t even determine who the father was. Her Majesty couldn’t forgive Ariad for degrading the royal family’s image. Today, Marquis Petrine’s interview was added to the article which was posted by changing his words a little each time. According to him, the previous incident at the opening ceremony where Ariad Pearson was humiliated, was done out of his own personal grudge. He thought that she didn’t have the qualifications of a crown princess and that Her Majesty had never ordered him to do it. Ariad was stepping on dangerous ground she couldn’t leave if she defended herself from this issue. While casually looking down at the newspaper as if she had nothing to do with that article, her purple eyes stopped for a moment. A new article had captivated So-hee.
[The Pearson family In Crisis: Standing at the Peak but Now Ruined!]
Her heart sank at the phrase. So-hee never thought that Ariad’s family would collapse from her choice when she truly had no other option after enough consideration. Regardless of everything that was related to Ariad, Han So-hee decided to walk the path she wanted. Still, she had no idea why she was choking on discomfort. Every time she remembered the face of Ariad’s father whom she had only seen once, So-hee shook her head and muttered as if to shake off the memory. “No. He’s just an extra. Anyway, it is what it is. Life is all about suffering.” Suppressing the overwhelming discomfort through logic, So-hee switched her gaze to another article. “Ari, I told you not to read the newspaper.”
Deon entered the room and stiffened, his sharp eyes burning fiercely. After closing the window and making a fuss about catching a cold, he approached the bed where So-hee was seated and snatched the newspaper from her hand. He scowled at the front page containing Ariad’s articles all over it. As usual, he tore the paper to shreds.
“Do you really prefer being stressed?”
Realizing that her excuses wouldn’t work anymore, So-hee replied. “Alright. I’m not checking it out anymore.” Suddenly, her eyes landed on a piece of newspaper rolling on the floor. She had no idea why one of the numerous pictures caught her eye in an instant. It was a black and white picture of Joshua’s face and written in big, bold letters on it was the news that he was going to remarry. Without realizing it, Sohee stared at it blankly and read what she could. Subsequently, Deon’s thick fingers lifted So-hee’s chin. The purple eyes that were fixed on the torn piece of paper met Deon’s grey eyes.
“Why?” He smirked. “Do you regret choosing me now?”
“That can’t be true.” Sohee urgently added. Deon had asked Sohee to stay with him because he didn’t mind being used. In addition, there was no one else decent enough to use. She was that desperate. If she didn’t express her firmness, she might hurt Deon. With that knowledge, So-hee hid her chagrin and acted nonchalant.
“I just read it because I saw the article. I think it’s good. My position will be filled soon, so I feel a little less guilty in many ways———” She wanted to ramble on but Deon cut him off.
“You’re lying.”
Deon stared So-hee down while she was sitting on the bed, his big hand still holding his chin. Her distance narrowed inevitably from him.
“Ari, don’t lie.” He whispered. So-hee tried to lead the conversation again, but her open mouth couldn’t utter a believable excuse. Deon had already swooped in to kiss her, his tongue caressing the seam of her lips. So-hee instinctively turned her head, but her little rebellion was useless when his strong grip held her chin in place. Instead of doing something to anger him, she chose to close her eyes. Deon would stop at nothing to conquer her. He had been suppressing his desire for too long due to pregnancy but the reins of his patience at that moment seemed to have loosened. The hand holding the back of her head slowly descended to her nape and traced her spine.
When his hand lowered, So-hee quickly grabbed his wrist. Deon stopped and withdrew his lips. Unlike So-hee, who was breathing hard as she tried to get herself together, Deon didn’t seem affected at all. However, his gray eyes deepened as if he was about to kiss him again.
