60. Very good news (1)
Thanks to Sohee, Ariad woke up but she was suffering from a high fever in the aftermath of the poison. Every time she woke up, So-hee would repeatedly cry like a child. Deon stood by her all day, suppressing his tears and calmly comforting So-hee throughout the ordeal. Two days later, she came to her senses and got out of bed. The doctor said it was a miraculous recovery but it was simply due to Sohee’s mental strength. The thought of not being able to lie down like this made her rise. She didn’t want to cry anymore. So-hee tried her best to open her swollen eyes but couldn’t. Then, she spat out her first statement in the last two days.
“Do you know the personal information of the last servant that interacted with me?” Her vulnerable appearance that only cried for the last two days disappeared, replaced by an eerie calmness. As he scrutinized the sudden change, Deon spoke apprehensively. “I have her personal information.”
“Can I see it?”
He got up from his seat and soon came back in with a piece of paper. So-hee, who was handed the paper, read the few pieces of information she had. Her name was Blue Levi. 21 years old. She had only written her name and age but even that was likely to be false.
“This woman isn’t in the mansion now, is she?”
“She quit her job a day ago due to a personal problem. It was a little strange but I was out of my mind, so I just let her go.”
“Strange woman is right. She poisoned the drink you made to acquire a fortune.”
“What?”
“She must have worked for the royal family. Perhaps, someone’s hands and feet.”
Deon’s face stiffened. His hand, which clenched into a tight fist, opened as if he was about to burst. Just in time, the familiar situation was repeated. A loud noise was heard outside the building.
“Master!”
People were all looking for Deon now. Deon grimaced at the repeated commotion again as he ruffled his hair.
“They’re here again, damn it.”
“What’s going on?”
“People from Filtmore came to visit the moment they knew about this place and it’s a mess. It’s nothing but I’ll be back after getting them under control.”
Deon rose from his seat and walked toward the door. So-hee, who was following him, found a newspaper that one of the employees had placed on the table. Today’s main article contained news about the Pearsons. The story said that Ariad’s father was suffering from financial difficulties that he had to sell and move out from his huge mansion where he had lived for decades.
“Master, I’m in trouble!”
Upon hearing the urgent voice, So-hee’s eyes also shifted toward the door. What unfolded in front of Deon was a greater sight than he thought. A commotion broke into the house.
“I went grocery shopping and came in, and they pushed me————”
Ten people came in kneeling behind the servants, making Deon curse.
“If you don’t have anything nice to say, keep kneeling!”
Despite Deon’s ferocity, a man plucked up his courage and said. “Duke Filtmore, how can you leave everything behind when your family’s situation is getting worse?” His secretary continued. “The investors who invested in your business had flocked to protest and most of the valuable things in the mansion had been seized. The Filtmore mansion got turned upside down and we have nowhere else to go in this situation. Everyone there is in a position to be driven to the streets like this.”
After that desperate remark, everyone shouted with one heart.
“Please come back, Your Grace!”
“No. I will not! Stop whining and get up, all of you!” Deon didn’t budge at all despite the desperate cries for help. So-hee, who was sitting on the bed while watching the scene, rose up. Her complacent idea that hiding just like this would solve all of her problems ruined everything. Ariad’s surroundings were also ruined because of that stupid choice. Deon and the Filtmore family, Ariad and the Pearson family, and Joshua, who would hate Ariad because of the deep wounds she had inflicted in his heart.
“Deon, I think the path I chose was the wrong one.”
With a vague knowledge of what she was about to tell him, Deon’s pupils shook as he looked back at Sohee.
“Let us return to Latvea for a moment.”
At first glance, it seemed that there was an exclamation of relief from the mouths of those kneeling behind Deon’s huge size. On the contrary, Deon’s face hardened. From such a look, she read his anxiety about possibly being abandoned again in the future. Sohee came closer to him and reached out to stroke Deon’s cheek, which was far above her.
“I promise I’ll see you again. First and foremost, we must work out everything we could do for each other’s business. Something happened that you and I just couldn’t turn a blind eye to this any longer.”
Deon’s rigid countenance gradually relaxed from that gentle and reassuring touch. It was thanks to her warm body temperature that her heart was delivered.
“It’s my job to find the damn criminal. I’ll settle the family’s affairs quickly and go to your side.” Deon hugged Sohee tightly. “And when everything is settled, I’ll formally propose to you in the right circumstances.”
A man who was unchanging and sincere to Sohee, who was Ariad for many months, sounded confident.
“Thank you very much, Deon.” Sohee replied with utmost sincerity.
