I’m a Villainess, Can I Die? - Chapter 69
Chapter 69
Aiden glanced at the stairs while exchanging greetings with Aaron. It was because he wanted to see the face of the person he had longed for so much for the past month as soon as possible.
“It’s fine. It’s the Founding Party’s banquet soon, so it’s the perfect moment to announce that we have a dedicated wizard in our family.”
“Yes… What?”
Aiden, who had been secretly glancing behind him, was startled and fixed his gaze on Aaron.
Aaron, who smiled at Aiden’s surprise, patted his shoulder again.
He decided to become a wizard just because he wanted to stand next to the Miss, but the thought that this position was more burdensome than expected crossed Aiden’s mind.
As Aiden was becoming drenched in pressure, Selena, holding Lucas’s hand, was coming down the stairs.
Lucas glanced at the small hand on his own and smiled deeply.
With the sound of footsteps echoing on the central staircase, Aiden raised his head and looked towards the sound.
The owner of the steps was… Jane.
Jane rolled her eyes at the place, where it was buzzing just moments ago, as it suddenly became quiet.
It felt like she appeared at the wrong time.
Like as if macarons were served with spicy chicken dishes… People’s eyes were focused on her.
‘What?’
Jane paused for a moment, then trotted down the stairs. She wanted to quickly disappear from the public eye.
She came down the stairs and blended in with the crowd standing behind Aaron, then bowed her head to the Lord and Aiden, who were looking at her.
“What about Selena?”
Aaron asked, knowing that Jane was Selena’s exclusive maid.
“The Miss will be coming down soon.”
“Really?”
Aiden’s heart raced a little at the title of ‘Miss’.
He, who swallowed a gulp, prayed that his face would not turn red.
As Jane had said, he soon heard footsteps coming down the stairs again. Aiden looked towards the stairs.
At the end of his gaze, the longed-for face had appeared.
The usually indifferent face, the casual expression. The moment he looked at that face that looked like everything in the world was bothering her, his heart raced beyond comprehension.
The thumping sounds made his head dizzy.
‘Miss.’
Aiden’s lips, who had been itching to call for Selena, gradually hardened. His gaze caught sight of Lucas standing next to her.
Like Aiden, Aaron turned his head to the sound of footsteps coming down the stairs and called out Selena’s name.
“Selena!”
Aaron, who was happily calling her name, furrowed his brow. It was because the outsider man who was holding Selena’s hand came into his eyes.
Selena blankly walked down the steps as she turned to the place where people were standing when Aaron called her.
She glanced at Aaron, who shook his head with a frown, and she turned to the familiar white blonde standing behind him.
“Lucas, why are you holding my sister’s hand?”
Aaron, who was quickly approaching the two of them, whispered softly to Lucas.
As if to show off, Lucas waved the hand. However, the action soon became meaningless.
Selena’s white hand slipped out of Lucas’s hand.
She naturally pulled her hand out and walked down the stairs alone. Lucas clenched and released his fists as the warmth disappeared from his hands.
Selena’s long hair was waving behind her back.
Soon after, she passed Aaron, whose eyes were twitching, and the place where she stopped was in front of Aiden.
“Aiden.”
As his name was called in a low voice, Aiden took a deep breath.
“Miss.”
It was something that he barely uttered. The tip of his tongue was sweet. Even though it was just a single word, the tip of his tongue was so sweet.
“Yes.”
Selena responded briefly to Aiden’s words. She then added quickly,
“Welcome back.”
Aiden smiled broadly, and his eyes curved towards Selena.
“I’m back.”
***
First, Aiden greeted the Duke and Duchess first, then returned to the prepared room. The schedule must have been hectic, so they decided to talk about the founding party tomorrow.
Aiden’s new room was set up on the first floor of the Duchy’s main residence as he returned as a wizard.
It was the room right next to where the Doctor and Ian were staying together.
Aiden looked around the new room slowly and put his luggage on the large desk. It was a desk that looked like double the size of what was in the previous room.
‘I think I can lie down on it…’
The corners of Aiden’s lips, that had a smirk at those thoughts, rose in an arc. Compared to his smiling lips, his green eyes were wet and moist.
Aiden had a strong attachment to his ‘own space’. It was because of his memories during his childhood, where he wandered without a place to lie down comfortably.
He left his cold home, went through a violent orphanage, was homeless, and now he found himself in a large room like this.
Unable to contain the overwhelming feeling, he bit his lip and looked only at the ceiling, when he heard a knock on the door.
“It’s me, Aiden.”
“Miss?”
Aiden, who walked to the door at once, opened the door wide.
***
Shortly after knocking on the door, the door opened wide. It was so wide open that the room could be seen at once.
Aiden stared blankly at me. It seemed like he didn’t expect me to come so suddenly. I went to my room and saw ‘it’ and came down spontaneously… So it was obvious.
“How is the room?”
I leaned over to Aiden’s side, who was standing blankly, and looked around the room.
I could see the room well, so I didn’t have to do this, but it wasn’t polite to look around a room without the owner’s permission… So, as much as possible, I appealed to him that I wanted to take a look around his room.
And Aiden quickly moved away in response to my actions.
As expected, he was quick to notice.
Satisfied, I nodded my head and slowly stepped into Aiden’s room. The whole room had a bright feeling. The wooden furniture matched the cream-colored walls well.
It felt just like a young wizard’s room. It looked three times larger than the previous room.
That was why everyone wanted to be promoted… Well, it was like that.
“It’s good.”
After looking around and looking at the trees outside the window, I put my butt on the sofa.
Even though it was his room, Aiden was standing in front of the door awkwardly. In silence, I looked at Aiden, and Aiden looked at me.
Still, Aiden did not move. Could it be an unspoken demonstration by opening the door that he wanted me to leave?
But it didn’t seem like it.
Aiden moved his steps slowly and, hesitatingly, sat across from me.
“Something… feels weird.”
“What?”
“I am not your servant.”
Haha, thinking about it, that really was weird. I had only met Aiden as a servant for about five months, but Aiden had been working as Selena’s servant for nearly 10 years.
I nodded my head in agreement, then stopped. It was because I remembered his past when he had been running like a dog under Selena for about nine years and seven months.
At the same time as the apologetic feelings came, doubts arose, and I raised my eyes and looked at Aiden.
“Yes, that’s right. So, live a whole new life in the future.”
Forget the past, and don’t even think about making a hole in the back of my head, Aiden. Please, I hid the remarks inside and cheered for Aiden’s new life.
“Yes, Miss. I became a wizard for that.”
Saying that, Aiden’s lips gently drew an arc. The moment I saw that smile, the day he announced that he would become a wizard to me passed in my mind.
‘Can I be greedy?’
Saying that, his eyes seriously lit up…
“Greed…”
I quietly mumbled those words.
Then I looked down at the small paper box in my hand. Aiden’s gaze, which paused for a moment at the murmur that I let out, followed me and moved to my hand.
I held out the paper box. The small paper box rattled in my hand.
“This…”
“Housewarming gift.”
More precisely, a room-warming gift? But that sounded a bit odd, didn’t it?
As I was about to put the gift down on the table, thinking it was in vain, Aiden’s hand held the bottom of the box.
Half of the small box disappeared from Aiden’s hand.
I put the box in Aiden’s large hand and stood up.
I didn’t intend to sit for a long time holding on to someone who was tired. Aiden got up from his seat with the box in one hand to see me off.
It was only from the sofa to the door and he wanted to escort me, but I let him go because that was his long-time occupational disease.
“I will take you.”
“Never mind. It’s right upstairs, right?”
I pushed Aiden into the room, who was anxious to take me, and walked alone.
After walking two steps and looking back, Aiden was standing in front of the door, looking at me.
“See you tomorrow.”
I left that greeting and turned my back without any regrets. Looking back again, Aiden seemed to be looking at me.
“Miss.”
Pause. I stopped at Aiden’s call.
I wanted to look back, but I didn’t because I was afraid that if I ever made eye contact with him, he would take me to my room.
“Sweet dreams.”
…That was dull. I nodded my head with my back to him and resumed walking. There was no looking back until I got into my room.
***
It wasn’t until Aiden couldn’t see Selena’s back as she walked away that he entered his room.
His heart was pounding at the thought that it was the room his Miss had just been in.
His heart raced so fast at this fact, and he was so worried about the future.
He felt like he had been standing so awkwardly in front of the Miss that he regretted it.
He came to be a wizard to stand by her side, but all he did was stand still… Aiden opened all the windows in his room with a single gesture. He wanted to breathe some cool air.
But, sadly, the desired wind did not blow.
Aiden quickly closed the windows again, hearing the sound of insects outside.
After closing the window, Aiden headed to the bed and looked at the box in his hand.
A small white paper box.
It was as if he knew what it was from the smell.
“Hahaha.”
Carefully opening the box, Aiden smiled at the contents that did not deviate from his expectations.
A glossy chocolate cake was placed dignifiedly. When the box was opened completely flat, the chocolate cake was fully revealed. There were scratches, as if someone had scooped it a little, but it didn’t feel bad at all.
Because Aiden seemed to know who the culprit was that made the cake like this. The person who told him to bring the cake that others didn’t eat because it was a waste. It was that person. His Miss.
Aiden scooped up the cake with the included fork and put it in his mouth. The cake part was a little dry, but it was quickly covered in sweet cream.
It was terribly sweet.
