Chapter 50: Kingpin (2)
Qian Fu laughed and stretched out three fingers beneath his sleeve.
“Thirty thousand Superior Immortal Jade!” Luo Qian was shocked.
Qian Fu corrected him. “Three hundred thousand, and this is only for the carriage. The price for four wild pure-bred Flame Stepping Immortal Horses from Heaven and Earth Spring is another sum. Such Immortal horses have a fiery temperament; they run like the wind, are covered in roaring flames all over, and they can even cast high order fire Immortal arts. Sixth-Order Immortals and weaker can dream on about taming them. In the Immortal Realm, one such Immortal horse can sell for at least 150,000 Superior Immortal Jade.
Luo Qian looked at the carriage that did not seem conspicuous. He shook his head. “Indeed, the things of the rich…”
Qian Fu boarded the carriage while smiling and saying, “Mr. Luo, come up quickly. I don’t get to use it much in a year. It’s thanks to you today.”
The insides of the carriage was actually a different world altogether. The insides of the carriage were definitely much more spacious than it appeared to be from the outside. Luo Qian was in shock. After some time and not seeing the carriage move, he asked curiously, “What’s going on, are we not leaving?”
Qian Fu sat up straight and chuckled. “We’ve already set off.”
“Really?” Luo Qian lifted the curtain. With this, he instantly sensed the bumpiness of the carriage. Outside of the window, white clouds floated and swiftly rolled back like impetuous river water. There were four clouds of blazing flames in front of the carriage, mighty and magnificent. Even by the window, he could sense some hint of the golden-red flames’ heat. The driver at the front of the carriage wore a gray leather vest from his shoulder to his left hip. His upper body was naked as he controlled the reins with one hand and swung the whip with the other. Standing on the carriage, he shouted loudly while the whip in his hand spun in huge circles and landed with snaps.
Luo Qian put down the curtain, and the interior immediately became extremely stable; not a hint of bumpiness could be sensed.
Qian Fu explained with a smile, “This is the good of this carriage. It isn’t limited to only this. This carriage, which cost close to one million Superior Immortal Jade, can also withstand the attacks of Eighth-Order Immortal arts and weaker.” Of course, there were far more advantages than these, but some just weren’t suited to be revealed to Luo Qian.
However, even this little bit of information was enough to shock Luo Qian. He aspired to become the smuggling kingpin of the Immortal Realm. It was only until today that he really saw the life of ‘kingpins!’ He still had a long way to go to reach his goal.
The carriage’s interior was furnished extremely luxuriously; whole pieces of rock surfaces made from Superior Immortal Jade covered the four walls. The precious Nanmu wood was made into tea tables, and the coats of four Seventh-Order Fire-Head Gold Cranes served as cushions. There was even a stove carved from fire warding stone. A small golden yellow teapot sat on it, gurgling as white vapor rose from it. The fire warding stone had cut off the heat from the flames; not a hint of it dissipated within the carriage.
These materials were top-quality product materials. If any material were to fall into an average Immortal’s hands, it would certainly be like hitting the jackpot to them. However, on this mogul of the underground banks’ carriage, they were merely here to make him ‘slightly’ more comfortable.
At this moment, Luo Qian gained a thorough understanding of what a kingpin’s state truly meant. It wasn’t about how much money you had, but that you didn’t care about money at all.
The speed of the carriage was much faster than Du Lengning’s Third-Order secret skill, Drifting Steps. Before long, it brought Luo Qian to an Immortal mountain shaped like a phoenix—Mountain Feng Tong. It was ranked fourth amongst the Thirty-six Mountains in the Realm; it was even above Mountain Ning Yao.
Qian Fu said, “Mr. Luo, we have arrived. This is Mountain Feng Tong; this mountain is property of the Zong Heng Sect—one of the Eight Great Sects of the Immortal Realm. Typically, it would not be easy to find a large piece of land in such a place. It just so happened that a few tenants here owed us money and were constantly unable to repay their debts. Thus, the First Manager asked for their land as payment. The combined land area of those few tenants just happens to fulfill your request.”
Zong Heng Sect? Luo Qian was delighted. It happened to be right under the wings of the old man. With this influential local that was of the Heaven Roll-level present, who would dare to provoke me on this Mountain Feng Tong? Luo Qian involuntarily straightened his back.
Qian Fu led him to his new territory. All around, stores’ narrow flags stood tall. Only this area in the middle was a piece of burnt land. It was probably bombarded by some high order Immortal arts. There weren’t even any scraps of the former building left. Noticing Luo Qian’s frightened expression, Qian Fu said coolly, “The First Manager told them to move away faster.”
Of course, some measures had been used to get them to move faster. Qi Ren dared to come to blows in the territory of the Eight Great Sects; his capabilities were evident!
Luo Qian was in awe of Qi Ren’s relentless methods. While rejoicing that he was friends instead of enemies with this underground bank mogul, he made up his mind. Even if he was so poor that he needed to beg for food in the future, he must not borrow money from Qi Ren.
The piece of land was not small. Although it was slightly smaller than what Luo Qian had hoped for, it would be enough with some proper planning. Luo Qian walked around, then nodded and said, “Many thanks to the First Manager. Head Qian, how much does this piece of land cost?”
Qian Fu said, “The First Manager has instructed us. Since it’s for Mr. Luo, we certainly should give the lowest price. Since this piece of land was received as payment, Mr. Luo can just pay us the amount that those tenants owe us.”
Luo Qian was a little uneasy in his heart. “Then, how many Immortal Jade do those tenants owe you in total?”
“Not many, 90,000 Superior Immortal Jade.”
Luo Qian heaved a sigh of relief; it was still within the scope that he could afford. Only, this piece of land could sell for at least hundreds of thousand Superior Immortal Jade. Why was Qi Ren so generous, only charging him 90,000 Superior Immortal Jade for it?
He thought for a moment and said, “That’s not appropriate. It’s such a big piece of land, and it’s at the good location of Mountain Feng Tong. It would cost 150,000 Superior Immortal Jade, no matter what. I cannot let my friend take a loss. Head Qian, say no more. Take the 150,000 Superior Immortal Jade. If you treat me as a friend, this shall be the price. I’ll take it. However, I only have 120,000 Superior Immortal Jade now. For the remaining amount, I will deduct it from the goods that I supply to First Manager.”
Qian Fu sighed and patted Luo Qian’s shoulders. “Brother, you are truly an honest man. Alright, I will inform the First Manager”
Luo Qian wasn’t willing to owe Qi Ren too much. This chunk of land could be bought with 130,000 Superior Immortal Jade, but Qi Ren—the great underground bank mogul—had found this land for him. Of course, he could not work for free. The additional 20,000 was considered Luo Qian’s repayment for this favor.
Luo Qian had worked his way up from the bottommost rung of the Immortal Realm. He would never believe such a good thing. Neither would he believe that he would always have so many small gains in the Immortal Realm.
Qi Ren definitely had some motives in treating him like this. If Qi Ren was truly such a generous person, he probably wouldn’t have become a magnate. A mogul—crocodile’s[1] most intrinsic quality was savageness; not in the least soft. Once it made up its mind, it would immediately doom its opponents to perdition. It was best to be more careful when dealing with such a person.
All of Luo Qian’s savings in Dark Jade Bank became Qi Ren’s assets. He also owed Qi Ren a huge debt of 30,000 Superior Immortal Jade now. However, both parties agreed that this sum of money would be repaid using the aphrodisiacs that Luo Qian supplied Qi Ren with.
Luo Qian still had 5,000 Superior Immortal Jade left in his hand. Withdrawing the 5,000 Superior Immortal Jade from the five big banks, he gathered 10,000 Superior Immortal Jade to be used as the starting fund of Luo Medicine Hall at Mountain Feng Tong. These funds were truly a little tight.
Du Lengning was full of drive. He first brought 200 Spirit Accumulation Pills to visit Qi Rongwei.
Qi Rongwei had now been promoted to Vice Head of the Commerce Association. The Qi family was now a rich and powerful family, far from what their previous selves could compare to. However, ever since the previous visit, Du Lengning would personally deliver the Spirit Accumulation Pills supplied to Qi Manor. He was very familiar with everyone in Qi Manor.
He’d even stolen a set of sexy underwear from Luo Qian and gifted it to Mrs. Qi. On the night Mrs. Qi put it on, she and her husband made love to their hearts’ content. When she saw Du Lengning after that, she went ‘Ning’er here and Ning’er there’ every time she opened her mouth like he was her godson.
He’d even become best friends with Qi Rongwei’s son, Qi Hengduan.
Du Lengning was a natural social butterfly. Although he did not dare to spend money recklessly under his father’s nose, each time he got his dividend from the medicine hall, he would go on the loose all around the Immortal Realm. His friendships with the rich men’s sons of the Immortal Realm were also tempered from the regular absurd gatherings.
Though Qi Rongwei took pains to fill his own pockets with public funds, he was very strict in disciplining his son. Qi Hengduan had a filthy rich father, but was utterly poor himself—this was the past depiction of Du Lengning. How would Du Lengning not know his feelings? Hence, catering to his liking, he brought Qi Hengduan to places of pleasure, wine houses, teahouses, and performance houses. Young Master Du would foot the bill for everything. Now, Qi Hengduan really could not leave this good friend anymore.
As such, the whole Qi Manor joined hands to help Du Lengning ‘urge’ Qi Rongwei to go through the approval procedures for him as soon as possible. The day after Du Lengning gave the gifts, he took the authorization document from Qi Rongwei’s hands.
Qi Rongwei asked gloomily, “What means did you use to make everyone in my family speak up for you? Even the little lass in the greenhouse asked if I could handle your procedures quickly.”
Du Lengning naturally could not reply. After saying his thanks, he took the authorization document and left. While on his way, he snickered to himself. I heard from Qi Manor’s servants that Old Master Qi had an affair with the lass in the greenhouse. It seems like this is most likely true. Fortunately, I’m usually thorough in my work and did not leave anyone out…
Li Fei’er was a born supervisor. With her supervising the main branch on Mountain Feng Tong, who would dare slack? The Immortal workers peeped at the little chili’s extremely appealing figure while working hard. The little chili’s delicate hand gripped a horsewhip as she supervised the shop.
Opening such a large shop, money was spent like water. Ten thousand Superior Immortal Jade certainly wasn’t enough. Fortunately, Luo Qian still had an income every month. But even so, the three had still tightened their belts.
Luo Qian was thinking of calling on Old Master Zhao Xihe in person before they went into operation. Now that he had come to his territory to ‘make a living,’ he ought to greet his acquaintances. Moreover, he still needed to rely on his care in the future.
In the Fushan cave abode underground palace, more than 60 rice cookers worked round the clock. Other than ensuring supply for Mountain Ning Yao’s Luo Medicine Hall, the spare production capabilities were used to make Spirit Accumulation Pills. Currently, only such elixirs were presentable; they were also convenient to bring out.
