Chapter 51: Don’t Treat A First-Grade Official Like He Isn’t A Cadre (1)
Whew—
A brown-colored Spirit Accumulation Pill flew high into the air; a huge, black figure leaped up, caught the Spirit Accumulation Pill with a snap, and swallowed it.
Whew——
Another one.
Snap.
Another bite.
Whew, whew, whew…
Spirit Accumulation Pills were randomly shot. The black figure was anxious. It flashed several times in the air and swallowed all of the Spirit Accumulation Pills while it was moving.
A loud laugh sounded. “Hahaha… Bi’er, you’ve broken the rules. We agreed that Immortal arts are not allowed to be used.”
The Clearwater Kirin turned its large head with unwillingness and let out a low protesting roar. “Roar…”
Luo Qian clapped his hands. “Quick, get down, and give me a ride.”
The Clearwater Kirin roared softly twice, then resignedly bent its front limbs, allowing Luo Qian to climb on. Its physique was as gigantic as a hill; Luo Qian called it riding, but it was actually him just standing on its back. The Clearwater Kirin stood up and stretched its four limbs to dash one round around the valley. Then, it came to a steady stop at the earlier spot.
Luo Qian jumped off, shook the Spirit Accumulation Pills in his hand, and grinned. “Let’s continue.”
The Clearwater Kirin roared lowly, seeming to be slightly displeased.
Luo Qian laughed heartily. “Alright, I promise not to use that earlier method anymore.”
The Clearwater Kirin shook its big head, nodded once, and widened its eyes that were the size of car wheels, crouching down—poised to move.
“Are you ready?”
Whew~
A Spirit Accumulation Pill shot into the soil beneath Luo Qian’s feet. Even though the Clearwater Kirin was astute and nimble, it was impossible for it to catch up to the Spirit Accumulation Pill that was even faster than a bullet within such a short distance. The Spirit Accumulation Pill fell into the soil, and the Clearwater Kirin did not catch it.
Luo Qian laughed triumphantly. “Bi’er, quickly come and get down obediently. A bet is a bet; this is a serious problem that concerns your character. You cannot cheat!”
“Roar roar!” The Clearwater Kirin roared unhappily at Luo Qian several times and could only lay down once again.
Luo Qian stood on its back and patted it gently, saying, “Bi’er, don’t be angry. Come, catch.”
Luo Qian stood on the Clearwater Kirin’s back; the Clearwater Kirin raised its head and opened its big mouth, easily catching the Spirit Accumulation Pills that fell from the sky. Collecting ten pills, Bi’er munched on them and swallowed everything contentedly.
“Xiaoqian… don’t spoil it like this. Spirit Accumulation Pills are precious. You feeding it like this will make it pickier and pickier. Hehehe…” Zhao Xihe appeared in the valley, stroking his long beard.
“It’s fine, it’s fine.” Luo Qian turned and jumped down from the Clearwater Kirin’s back. “Although Spirit Accumulation Pills are precious, I can still afford the amount for Bi’er. Elder Zhao, you’re done with work.”
The Clearwater Kirin had an arrogant and stubborn disposition. Even though Luo Qian was its savior, it refused to allow Luo Qian to ride on its back. But how could a simple and good-natured Immortal Beast be the match of Luo Qian, this cunning smuggler? Very soon, under the delicious lure of Luo Qian’s Spirit Accumulation Pills, the man and beast came to an agreement. If the Clearwater Kirin couldn’t catch Luo Qian’s Spirit Accumulation Pills with its nimble skills, it would have to give Luo Qian a ride around the area.
Luo Qian had come up with at least five to six ways to prevent the Clearwater Kirin from catching them. He’d just used two and had yet to ride to his heart’s content before Zhao Xihe came back.
“Mm, the sect’s trivial matters really gives one a headache. Fortunately, I’ve stepped down from being Sect-Master; otherwise, I’ll have even more worries,” said Zhao Xihe.
The old man and the young man sat down under a verdant pine tree. There were three huge rocks under the tree—a larger one in the middle and two smaller ones on each side. There was a chessboard carved on the larger rock in the middle—this was where Zhao Xihe played chess and drank tea with his old friends in his leisure time.
“I heard you opened another medicine hall on Mountain Feng Tong?” asked Zhao Xihe.
“Yes, Elder Zhao. We’ll be neighbors hereafter,” joked Luo Qian.
Zhao Xihe nodded. “That’s just right. I’m mainly the one in charge of things at Mountain Feng Tong. The Sect-Master and the rest are all at Xuanling Spring. If you have problems in the future, feel free to come to me.”
“Many thanks, Elder Zhao. Hehe, with you helping, I feel much more reassured.”
Zong Heng Sect was originally on Mountain Feng Tong. However, ever since they ranked amongst the Eight Great Sects, they finally bought one-sixth of Xuanling Spring after spending a substantial amount of money and drawing on many relations.
The sect’s headquarters was then moved to Xuanling Spring that was of a higher class. Their base on Mountain Feng Tong became a branch office. Zhao Xihe was an expert on the Heaven Roll. Despite having stepped down from the position of Sect-Master, the empty position of an Elder clearly could not reflect how highly the sect thought of him. Hence, they handed the second ‘power’ of managing the Mountain Feng Tong branch office—one that was only beneath the Sect-Master—into his hands.
“Elder Zhao, I would like to ask for your help with something this time,” said Luo Qian.
Zhao Xihe replied, “Feel free to speak up about any difficulties you have. Do you have insufficient Immortal jade? I can lend you…”
Luo Qian quickly waved his hand. “No, no. I’m just worried about the safety of the medicine hall. However, given my status, I can’t invite those masters who craft Immortal Artifacts and set up array formations, so…”
Zhao Xihe smiled heartily. “Just this matter? That can be easily arranged. I’ll set out now and find the people for you. Don’t worry. This face of mine may be old, but it can still get some favors, hahaha…”
Luo Qian hurriedly said, “No rush. Just see when the masters are free to come and give me some guidance. That will be enough.”
Zhao Xihe glared at him. “How can that be? You are my little brother; your affairs are my affairs. If that bunch of old fellows does not put their heart into helping you, they can dream about playing chess and drinking my wine here in the future.”
Zhao Xihe left just as he said that; he called out, “Bi’er!”
The Clearwater Kirin had been having fun chasing two beautiful butterflies in the distance. Hearing his call, it promptly blew its clouds of mist and flew back.
Zhao Xihe flew onto the Clearwater Kirin. “Xiaoqian, just wait for three days at most. I’ll bring the people back for you. Bi’er, let’s go.”
According to Luo Qian’s thinking, the main shop had a VIP reception room, which had safety features that were first-rate in the Immortal Realm. However, Xiao Xiangzi’s standards could not reach Luo Qian’s demands at all. He’d already wanted to visit Zhao Xihe, so he asked for Zhao Xihe’s help while he was here.
…
Seeing the three-story-tall, lavishly decorated new shop rise up from the ground, Luo Qian felt really pleased in his heart. He sorted all the matters inwardly and abruptly recalled that the drinks that were to be served to VIP guests had yet to be prepared. Luo Qian’s idea had been to get some Coca Cola, Orangeate, and the like from the Human Realm. Once he got busy recently, he had forgotten all about it.
He quickly informed the feisty Li Fei’er and rushed back to his Fushan cave abode himself.
He’d just flown to the air above Fushan when he saw a sleeve fluttering in the wind at his cave abode entrance. Purplish-brown clothes—that was the color of the uniform of the Immortal Realm’s Immortal officials!
Luo Qian was taken aback. There was no one in the Fushan cave abode. Had the Imperial Guards taken advantage of this to enter and raid his lair? He activated the Purple Spirit Jade triplicate seal defense array formation.
He then went around and stealthily moved closer to his Fushan cave abode. From afar, he saw that the array formation at the entrance was still there. The Immortal officials had not broken in, but were just standing at the entrance and waiting.
Luo Qian inwardly heaved a sigh of relief. He took a few more glances and recognized a few familiar faces. It turned out that they were the people from the Imperial Arrest Council who had questioned him about the demon incident at Rosy Cloud Spring the last time.
He was about to go meet them when a thunderous roar sounded by his ear. “Ha! Weasel, show yourself!” A huge force then struck him like a hammer. A purple ray suddenly appeared above the Purple Spirit Jade and neutralized that imposing strike.
Luo Qian only felt his chest heat up, then he lost his balance and stumbled backward. Before his eyes, a burly man who resembled an iron tower had appeared.
The burly man’s eyes were big. Numerous streaks of powerful meteors flowed between his palms. They continued to grow and condensed into a ball of light the size of a football very quickly. The man pulled back his fist, preparing for his second strike when Zheng Daoguang’s voice sounded. “Chen Chong, stop!”
The burly man’s Immortal art was at the final point; it could not be retracted in time. In the crucial moment, he lifted his arm.
Luo Qian bowed his head; the ball of light brushed past the top of his head and flew past, scorching some of his hair. An explosion sounded 100 meters behind him. A burning blast pushed Luo Qian from behind, making him land onto the burly man.
Honey! Luo Qian stuck out his tongue. “How formidable!”
Zheng Daoguang said with a smile, “Luo Qian, you are someone who survived a demon. Why are you so vulnerable?”
Luo Qian replied resentfully, “You’re wrong, Sir Zheng. I am someone who was reborn under the demon’s hands.”
“Hahaha…” Zheng Daoguang laughed. Every Immortal had one or two unique skills for defense. Zheng Daoguang knew the laws of the Immortal Realm very well, so he did not pursue further on why Luo Qian could undergo rebirth. Instead, he changed the topic and said, “This is your cave abode. Why are you hiding?”
Luo Qian had a guilty conscience; he asked in response, “Sir, why have you thought of me?”
Zheng Daoguang said, “Come, let’s speak inside.”
Luo Qian released the prohibition at the entrance. “Sir, please come in.”
Chen Chong had some contempt for Luo Qian. Walking at the back, he muttered to his fellow official, “This useless fellow, why does Sir value him so much? I could break the seal at the cave entrance easily, but Sir did not allow that and even waited outside for so long.”
His voice was neither soft nor loud, just enough for Luo Qian to hear him.
Luo Qian turned around and gave him a very friendly smile—before you have come up with a solution to deal with the enemy, it was best to make the enemy lower their guard.
With regards to Feisty Li Fei’er, Luo Qian could try all ways to take advantage of her, making her rage till she ground her teeth, stomped her feet, and made a din. However, against an iron tower-like big fellow, this method… even thinking about it gave him goosebumps. Luo Qian decided to ignore him for now and wait till he found his weaknesses.
Moreover, the possibility of everyone meeting in the future was next to zero.
“Have some tea, Sir.” Li Fei’er wasn’t around, so Luo Qian had to prepare and serve tea personally.
Zheng Daoguang casually lifted the teacup and lifted the cover, examining it in detail. “Good stuff—green lusterware. There ought to be lots of people admiring and appraising such porcelain. Placing it in this Fushan cave abode of yours is like throwing a bright pearl into darkness.”
Luo Qian grinned, not understanding what he meant. He did not say more.
Taking a sip of tea, Zheng Daoguang could not help nodding. “Good tea, such a refined taste. If it is made famous in the Immortal Realm, it would certainly be worth a hundred times more.”
Luo Qian wore a wry smile. “Sir, I am a common person. Please be candid if you have anything to say.”
Zheng Daoguang suddenly put on a serious countenance. “Luo Qian, you are intelligent and resourceful. It’s really quite a pity that you aren’t serving the Immortal Court. I would like to recruit you as a First-Grade secret supervisor for the Dark Arrest Council. Are you willing to lower yourself to take this position?”
