With that, the class came to an end, and each student was sent to their designated homerooms.
I found myself alone in the classroom.
“I suppose the other classes haven’t finished yet… I’m not exactly sure what to do next…”
Looking around the room for a little longer, I realized that maybe this would be a good time to talk to Aria… Since there was no one else around, it wouldn’t hurt, right? The guards standing outside are behind a closed door, so it’s unlikely that they will hear us.
“Ah, Rena, remember those patterns on the red stone? Well, you can actually reuse those stones by removing the patterns and making new ones. However, currently, I don’t think you’re capable of doing that yet, but I’m sure with how talented you are you’ll be able to handle it in no time.”
“I see… Aria, you know a lot, don’t you?”
Seeing Aria beam with pride made my heart feel blessed by her cute smuggish smile. Seeing her like that really made me feel fortunate for being able to actually see her.
“The wind can go anywhere and learn anything!”
“Truly, the wind is a blessing”
Aria had an intense pride as a spirit. Honestly, if I left certain decisions to her, we wouldn’t be hiding right now and instead would be flaunting my magical power. However, I do not desire to be used by some political rivals or be the central pawn in some noble’s wars. I feel somewhat fortunate that the other Aerials are invisible to others. Otherwise, news about me may spread around by other Aerials, leading to god knows what.
“Oh! I forgot to mention, the magic stone your teacher had. It was actually engraved by himself. You see, while we are invisible to our masters, we do have a unique feature no other guardian can do. We can make those patterns. No other spirit has that ability. However, your teacher’s stone was mediocre at best. Perhaps his spirit isn’t doing too well.”
“Oh? Why do you think that Aria?”
“You see, Rena is special and is the only one who has been able to summon an Aerials physical form. So oftentimes, other Aerials use these stones as a way to communicate with others. So when they aren’t being used or appreciated, Aerial spirits tend to get depressed. So the best way to form a connection with an Aerial is to show pride in its work and to show it off to the world.”
“I see even though it makes them a lot of money, it should still be actively appreciated by others and contractors.”
I wondered if the fact that I could remember the memories of my previous life might have been the catalyst that allowed me to see Aria…
“I see. I had no idea since I’ve been able to see You this entire time… However, it makes me wonder, considering my magical power does that mean you could create something like a tornado to protect me if something happens in the future?”
“No, no, I mean yes, but I don’t think we need to create an entire tornado for that!”
“Really?”
“Absolutely!”
While mindlessly passing time with an idle conversation between Aria and myself, I looked out towards the school’s gardens. Rows upon rows of beautiful roses were scattered around. Each section had a variety of colors that shined in beautiful light.
The flowers swayed ever so gently as the wind caressed throughout the branches singing a song as it passed by. I couldn’t help but feel a warm sensation burst through my heart as I watched.
In my previous life, I was a saint. My one and only purpose in life was to sacrifice myself to save others. But in this life… I fear… I may end up on a battlefield one day… I truly didn’t know how to feel about the possibility of taking the lives of any living creature, demon, or human… It just frightens me.
While looking at this garden and seeing its exhilarating beauty, I just don’t know if I’ill ever see something like this again after graduating in a few years… Who knows how long I can hide my true power…
Maybe now is my only chance to mindlessly look at a garden like this… So I just want to appreciate it and thank the flowers for their beauty.
For now, I’ll savor this view as long as I can.
After some time, students started to arrive. The first one was Flegel Gansch. She had long milk-tea-colored hair, which was tied loosely on the side. When she entered, she looked my way, narrowed her eyes, and smiled, giving a surprised “Oh!” look when she saw me sitting alone.
Shortly after, Azure Lightnir, who had shoulder-length green hair with sparkling blue eyes, entered the room.
“Oh, hey, I thought I was the first to arrive.”
“What? This isn’t a racecourse, Azure.”
“Oh, boo, you’re no fun, but besides that… Uh, Renaria, I wanted to ask, is it okay for us to call you by your name?”
I’m not really sure if Azure and Flegel were well acquainted with each other but judging between the back and forth, it seems they could be friends.
“Oh? Yes, absolutely, then would it be okay if I called you Azure and Flegel?”
“By all means! We’d be delighted! Allow me to introduce you to the others in our guardian’s class. This here is Trey Sarver, this one here is Amy Maxell, and this guy over there goes by Noel Owen!”
Miss Tray is a mature girl who has long straight silver hair and piercing red eyes. Amy had fashionably shaped and loosely wrapped hair that shined bright brown like a chestnut. Owen seemed to be preoccupied with looking outside the window, so I couldn’t exactly get a good look at him. Maybe he’s just uninterested in meeting me… well… it doesn’t matter.
I was rather relieved when instead of mocking me, they greeted me like a normal student… I was really relieved… Maybe I can make some friends… Maybe my school life won’t only be one of anxiety and fear.
