- Chapter 6 - In My Previous Life I Was a Saint, but Now I Want to Cut Corners Chapter 6
After finishing up outside with Aria, I decided to return to the mansion. I could tell by their confused expression that I would need to explain the situation about why they could see Aria. Just like she said, people can now see her appearance. It would be best to introduce her to them.
“Father, take a look. This is Aria. She is my guardian spirit.”
“Hmmm… I thought Aerials were invisible?”
My father then summoned his guardian spirit and began striking some sort of conversation with him. Because of how spirits work, I couldn’t hear the complete discussion. Spirits can only be seen by others, not heard. But judging from the nods and glances at Aria, the conversation was about her. I decided to wait for the conversation to end and looked around. I noticed how my brother and my mother followed in my father’s footsteps and summoned their spirits to have the same conversation.
“Uhm… Okay… Rena, is that really an aerial?”
Aria greeted my father with a cheerful smile and wave. However, he could only give a sullen look in return.
“Nice to meet you!”
“What… Did you just talk?”
“No way… Chris, our daughter’s guardian spirit, just talked…”
“Uhm… Mother, Father, please calm down… Let me explain.”
It was somewhat unnerving to see how my family reacted to seeing Aria for the first time. Also, the fact she could talk seemed to be never heard of before. So I felt like this was my best opportunity to tell my family about my past life. At first, they were pretty skeptical, which I couldn’t exactly blame them for. However, they believed everything I said after conversing with their guardian spirits, who could confirm that I was telling the truth.
“Huh… who could have thought my little girl was a saint… To think you lived such a horrible life in the past…”
My mother hugged me with a trembling voice. She was trying her best to hold back the tears after hearing my story. She began to gently stroke my head, trying to console me.
“I’m not entirely sure what to make out of all this. If Rena is a saint, not only one with royal blood, the royalty will definitely go after her.”
Both my father and brother had concerned looks as they thought over the situation.
“It also doesn’t help that she’s also extremely beautiful…, aside from the fact that she’s a saint. I’m willing to bet they will go after her in order to secure the perfect queen for the prince.”
Currently, the second prince doesn’t have a fixed fiancé. The spot is open. It’s a national custom for the royalty to pick a fiancé by the time they graduate from the academy. Given he is the same age as Renaira, she is most likely the candidate with the best chances for becoming his fiancé.
“Absolutely not! I do not want that!”
I yelled in complete panic, almost throwing my mother off of me. She held on tighter with tears in her eyes, whispering gently, “It’s going to be okay…”
“We will never make you do anything you don’t want. I promise…”
“Well, she hasn’t exactly been introduced to the public yet. We could find a way to disguise her power and beauty before then.”
It seemed that my entire family was on my side. It felt comforting that they respected my desire to have a quiet life. My family wanted my happiness. I could feel it in their words and actions.
After agreeing with the idea my father called over Anna. She was my personal maid, she was not the prettiest of people with brown hair and brown eyes, but she gave off this loving and motherly aura. Her father is the Knight Commander of the Marquess Sheridans Knights. While only being a couple of years older than me, she still has served me since I was able to barely walk.
“You called for me?”
Anna appeared before my father and seemed to be nervous by the sudden summon. You could tell she was trembling. It was clear that Anna was afraid that she may have done something wrong. She tightly squeezed the hem of the apron while bowing with a slight tremble.
“I know that preparation for Renaria’s entrance into school has been well underway. But I’d like to take a different approach than originally planned. I’d like you to make her as discreet as possible.”
“D-Discreet? Are you sure?”
She lost her concentration and looked up towards my family in confusion. You could tell the look in her eyes was saying, “Are you sure about this?” I look at her and nod to confirm what my father had told her.
The entire Sheridan family were people of extreme beauty. Even at the young age of ten years old, some people have said that she will outshine her mother in the near future. With the inherited tanzanite eyes and gorgeous blonde hair, she was a league above even the most beautiful nobles. It would be next to impossible to make her not stand out.
Since she was a toddler, Anna, who had always been with Renaria, was used to making her beauty shine every day. Now with her entrance to the academy nearing, Anna was getting excited to dress her up even more than usual to attract all the young nobles’ eyes in the school. She had prepared a certain extreme level of determination and attention to detail in preparation for this. Now she was being asked to do the exact opposite. It was obvious that she couldn’t understand what was happening and was panicking inside.
Anna takes another look at Renaira, confirming that she had the extreme beauty of her family. She went in circles in her mind to figure out ways to make her beauty less outstanding. While you could work with the hair and light makeup to hide some of her beauty, there was a small problem. Renaira had tanzanite eyes. In this day of age, there was no way to hide the color. The task that was given to the maid seemed impossible, but she was determined. If this is what Renaria wanted, she will do everything in her power to hide her true beauty. And thus, Renaria was admitted to school, hiding her true beauty from the world.
