Tang Rongling and Gu Yunci emerged from the bedroom as well. Gu Yunci ran over to Gu Qingxin. She looked at her nervously and then turned her gaze to Old Madam Gu who was downstairs and said, “Grandmother, it’s just a misunderstanding. Qingxin didn’t deliberately go into Rongling’s room.”
“What? Gu Qingxin, are you shameless? Did you go into Rongling’s room on your own accord? He’s about to get engaged to Yunci!” Old Madam Gu was even angrier now.
Tang Rongling and Gu Yunci were about to get engaged? Gu Qingxin was amused by this. This meant that the Gu family had silently consented to their relationship long ago, so what did that make her?
“Grandmother, if I recall correctly, I’m Tang Rongling’s fiancée. I left the Gu family, but our engagement still stands.” Gu Qingxin was heartbroken.
“Yunci is already pregnant. Do you want Yunci’s child to grow up without a father? Why are you so evil?” Old Madam Gu seemed to get angrier and more upset with each passing moment.
“Tang Rongling and I are engaged, but my older sister is pregnant with my fiancé’s baby. Yet you said I am the evil one. I want to ask you this—How exactly am I evil? Did I ask her to sleep with my fiancé? Now that the two of them are together, does that mean that I have lost my right to speak up? You said that I am no different from a woman who serves soup for a living, but she is unmarried and pregnant. What does that make her?” Gu Qingxin ridiculed them coldly.
“Qingxin, believe me, what happened between Rongling and me was an accident. We didn’t mean for it to happen,” Gu Yunci explained herself as she anxiously grabbed Gu Qingxin’s arm.
“In that case, what happened at the hotel last night was an accident as well? Gu Yunci, it’s such a waste that you’re not a professional actress,” Gu Qingxin replied as she tried to retract her arm in disgust.
However, she did not expect Gu Yunci to tug at her arm. From an outsider’s perspective, it looked as though Gu Qingxin had deliberately pushed her away.
“Ah!” Gu Yunci suddenly screamed as she lost her balance and rolled down the stairs.
Gu Qingxin suddenly felt a strong force shove her aside. To protect Gu Yunci, Tang Rongling caught her in his embrace and rolled down the stairs with her. He protected Gu Yunci carefully by using his body as a human shield.
There were muffled grunts followed by sharp screams. Gu Huaian slapped Gu Qingxin, his face contorted with anger as he said, “Evil girl! How can you be so vicious? Your older sister is pregnant!”
Zhou Mantong had tried to convince him to marry Gu Qingxin off to the second son of the Meng family so that she would give up on Tang Rongling. Initially, Gu Hauian had felt rather hesitant. After all, Gu Qingxin was his biological daughter, and he knew what kind of character the second son of the Meng family was—that man was promiscuous by nature. However, as he looked at things now, he realized it would be better to marry this insensible daughter off to another man as soon as possible.
The few of them surrounded Gu Yunci anxiously as though she was the most precious treasure in this world. Gu Qingxin, on the other hand, stood on top of the stairs alone as the entire world had deserted her.
She should have seen all this coming long ago, but why did her heart still ache so much?
Gu Qingxin walked through the front door of the Gu family residence. Behind her, someone called out, “Gu Qingxin, stay where you are!”
Gu Qingxin’s body grew rigid as Tang Rongling walked quickly toward her and reached out to grab her chin. “Gu Qingxin, how dare you try to harm Yunci and our baby?”
“Tang Rongling, do you have a brain? Do you think I would harm Gu Yunci in front of so many people?” Gu Qingxin slapped his hand away furiously.
“Is there even anything that you fear? Since Yunci and our baby are fine, I’ll let you go this time. If you ever dare to hurt Yunci again, I won’t let you get away with it…”
A loud slap interrupted him.
Gu Qingxin slowly put her hand down. Her eyes were dry, but her voice trembled slightly as she said, “Tang Rongling, I thought that even if you didn’t love me, you should at least understand me since we grew up together! Now it seems like that was just wishful thinking!”
