Invincible Evocation - Chapter 42
Chapter 42: Trapped
Rong Kaixuan held the small box in his hands and put the bag of Spirit Coins back in his coat as he excitedly left the shop.
He didn’t care much about the 50 Spirit Coins. The star of the day was the box in his hands. As long as he used the blank talismans inside the box to create more Spirit Body Fighter Sealing Talismans, he could exchange them for 5,000 Spirit Coins.
He bought these for 50 and could sell them for 5,000. That was a hundred times higher than how much he paid.
When he thought about how he could have so many Spirit Coins in the future, his heart couldn’t stop pounding.
Suddenly, there was a blur in front of him. A figure had soundlessly blocked his way.
The shop assistant following Rong Kaixuan from a distance immediately paled and ran forward quickly to close up the gap.
The assistant did not act rashly. Even though he kept closing up the distance between himself and Rong Kaixuan, he didn’t make himself obvious.
Rong Kaixuan got a fright, and his heart trembled. He took a step backward and looked up.
When he saw who it was, he stopped moving backward and tried not to laugh. “Eldest Brother, why are you here?”
The one blocking his way was no stranger. It was the eldest of the third generation of the household, Rong Kaihua.
Rong Kaihua looked cross as he said, “I should be asking you that question. You are the one who’s not supposed to be here, right?”
Rong Kaixuan laughed awkwardly. He hadn’t known Rong Kaihua and his other relatives for a long time, but they were all very friendly toward him. He enjoyed this heartwarming sense of familial love.
Even though Rong Kaihua was scolding him with a stern face, he wasn’t repulsed.
He scratched his head and replied, “Eldest Brother, I’m sorry for making everyone worry about me.”
Rong Kaihua quietly said, “Before you came out, you asked Grandpa Cai about this place, so we guessed you came here.” He scoffed and said, “You could have come here if you wanted to. Why did you have to sneak out like this? Everyone was so worried.”
Rong Kaixuan’s face was slightly red. “You’re right, Eldest Brother.” He looked around and asked, “Eldest Brother, did you come by yourself?”
Rong Kaihua shook his head and said, “Grandpa Cai and my father are here too.”
“Oh? Where are they?”
“They instructed me to wait for you here while they went to other parts of the city to look for you,” Rong Kaihua replied in a gentle voice. “We’ll just wait for them. They’ll come back to meet with me if they still can’t find you by sundown.”
Rong Kaixuan hung his head. “I’m so sorry for causing trouble for Grandpa Cai and First Uncle.”
Rong Kaihua sighed and said, “Actually, I noticed you the minute you walked into the plaza.”
Rong Kaixuan was stunned and asked, “Why didn’t you call out to me?”
“Since you snuck out from the house and came all the way here, you clearly had something in mind.” Rong Kaihua shook his head and asked, “If I spoiled your plans, do you think you would really give up? Since that was the case, I thought I’d just wait until you came out.”
Rong Kaixuan looked at how Rong Kaihua looked so resigned. His heart felt warm. He quietly said, “Thank you, Eldest Brother.”
Rong Kaihua had a grim expression on his face. “It’s your first time out and about, so it’s common to meet some thugs. Next time, be more careful. Don’t let Grandpa and your uncles and father worry about you again.”
Rong Kaixuan nodded repeatedly and felt bad inside. He still argued back, “Eldest Brother, there aren’t that many thugs in this world.”
Rong Kaihua gave a cold smile as he suddenly moved past Rong Kaixuan. He moved as quickly as lightning and instantly stood in front of a man.
He spoke in a low voice, “You’ve been following my younger brother. What do you want?”
That man was the shop assistant who had been following Rong Kaixuan. He had tried his best to cover his tracks, but there was no way he could hide from Rong Kaihua’s eyes and ears.
He saw that Rong Kaixuan had walked over and was looking suspiciously at him, so he laughed awkwardly and said, “Mr. Rong, don’t be mistaken. You’ve made a deal at our shop, so we are responsible for ensuring your safety.”
Rong Kaixuan frowned slightly and said, “Eldest Brother, he is one of the shop assistants at the shop I went into.”
Rong Kaihua nodded slowly and said, “Thanks for the kind intentions, but I will take care of my brother from here onward. You should head back.”
The shop assistant couldn’t do anything about it, so he smiled awkwardly and clasped his fists together politely. He hung his head and walked back to the shop.
After he had walked quite a fair distance, Rong Kaihua turned around. “Kaixuan, while one should never want to harm others, you must always guard yourself against others. He might be one of the shop’s assistants, but you still have to guard yourself against him.”
“Yes, Eldest Brother.” Rong Kaixuan responded politely, even though he didn’t agree with that.
“Father has rented a place over at the back, so let’s wait for them there,” Rong Kaihua said in a low voice. “They’ll come back before it gets dark.”
Rong Kaixuan nodded and followed Rong Kaihua out of the busy commercial district.
After walking for about 10 minutes, Rong Kaihua led them to a standalone house.
The house wasn’t very large, but it was secluded and quiet. It wasn’t easy to find such a quiet place in this noisy and lively city.
Rong Kaihua said, “You must be hungry. I’ll cook something for you.”
Rong Kaixuan was surprised. “Eldest Brother, do you know how to cook?”
Even though Rong Yiyang had been sent to the rural estate in the countryside for more than 10 years, he wanted his son to be successful, so he taught Rong Kaixuan nothing but boxing since he was a child. Rong Kaixuan didn’t know how to do anything else besides that.
Rong Kaihua burst out laughing. “I’m not a good cook, but I learned how to cook when I was training by myself in the wilderness. The food is at least edible.”
Rong Kaixuan laughed along and said, “Yay, I’m looking forward to appreciating your culinary skills.”
“You naughty boy.” Rong Kaihua ruffled his hair. Just as he was about to leave, his expression suddenly fell.
His expression was very grim as he turned to listen to the sounds around him.
Even though Rong Kaixuan had the heart of a Martial Artist, he hadn’t gone through any major battles. As long as nobody was clearly malicious to him, his awareness of his surroundings was never as sharp as Rong Kaihua’s.
When he saw Rong Kaihua’s reaction, he immediately became vigilant.
The True Qi within him surged. A mysterious energy instantly filled his body.
After a moment, his face fell too. “Eldest Brother, someone is approaching us.”
Rong Kaihua was stunned and looked at his younger cousin in surprise.
Rong Kaihua had been able to detect an abnormality because he was a Peak Stage Martial Artist and had gone through much studying and experiences. This cousin of his was only at Elementary Stage Martial Artist, so he hadn’t gone through much training. How was he even more certain than himself?
“Ho-ho, this young fellow is quite vigilant, eh?” A cold snort came in from outside the house.
Rong Kaihua waved a hand at his younger cousin and whispered, “Come with me.”
Rong Kaixuan nodded. The two of them slowly opened the room door and went into the courtyard.
They didn’t know how many people the other party had, but they weren’t willing to wait inside the room. If they got into a fight within the large and wide courtyard, they could still hop over the wall and escape if things looked bad. If they remained inside the room, they would be trapped on all sides by the other party.
There were four men in black standing in the courtyard with cold smiles on their faces.
Three of them seemed to be lower in rank compared to one of them as they stood around one young man in black. All four of them gave off a faint murderous air.
Rong Kaihua’s heart sank. He clasped his fists together politely as he asked, “We do not know any of you, so may I know why you have come looking for us?”
The young man standing in the middle smiled coldly. He looked at Rong Kaixuan as he said, “You over there. After entering Donghua Treasure Hall, what transaction did you make?”
Rong Kaixuan coldly replied, “Whatever transaction I made is my business, and it has nothing to do with you.”
The young man sniggered and said, “You can’t just take without giving. Humph, if I kill both of you right here, did you think I won’t be able to find out?”
A tinge of anger flashed across Rong Kaihua’s eyes. “We are in Qiangan, and fights are forbidden within the city. That’s the rules set by the governor of the city, so surely you know about that, right?”
The other party’s aggressive and unreasonable attitude made Rong Kaihua very angry, but he managed to hold it in.
Once Grandpa Cai and his father came back in the evening, they wouldn’t have to worry anymore.
The young man coldly said, “That’s right. If someone discovers that we’re engaging in a fight, I won’t get away scot-free.”
Rong Kaihua’s heart relaxed and said, “Since you know that, I would like to request that all of you leave right now. If you do, I will not pursue this matter.”
A mocking look suddenly overtook the young man’s face as he replied, “You won’t pursue the matter? Ha-ha, as long as nobody notices any traces of a fight here, nobody would bother me at all.”
He reached a hand into his coat and pulled something out.
The item he pulled out was a small ball. The ball wasn’t large. It was only the size of a baby’s fist, but there was a huge and terrifying amount of energy flowing within the ball. It looked rather fearsome.
Rong Kaihua immediately moved forward to stand in front of Rong Kaixuan.
He flicked his hands and drew the long sword from his waist. The sword was glowing with several wisps of unusual looking sparks, so it was clearly a strong Spirit Weapon.
The young man merely scoffed and flung the ball in his hands onto the floor.
Pak!
The small ball instantly exploded. A mysterious energy suddenly wafted out.
It only took a moment for a shapeless and invisible bubble to instantly cover the entire courtyard.
Rong Kaihua looked up. His heart instantly trembled in fear.
“Oh no, it’s a Protecting Light Curtain.”
“Oh, you’re not bad. You actually know that this is a Protecting Light Curtain. You should also know that as long as the Light Curtain is active, nobody outside will know what’s happening inside.” The young man laughed loudly and said, “I’ve been able to kill off a lot of people who don’t know how to behave thanks to this treasure of mine. You two had better surrender to me obediently, or I’ll make sure you die in one good piece.”
Rong Kaihua was furious and started to have regrets.
If he had immediately run out of the house with Rong Kaixuan the moment he saw these men, the other party wouldn’t have dared to try killing them once they hit the streets.
Now, they were trapped and in a dangerous situation. What were they to do now?
