Chapter 48: Becoming Friends

Ye Jianhao was slightly taken aback. He looked at Rong Kaixuan in surprise and finally understood why Rong Kaixuan was so insistent on kowtowing to him.

A sincere smile spread across his face as he asked, “Mister Rong, do you know why I was willing to save your Eldest Brother that day?”

Rong Kaixuan lifted his head and replied, “I have no idea.”

In a gentle voice, Ye Jianhao said, “When I saw you that day, I was shocked by the injuries on your body. You had completely consumed all the True Qi and Spirit Power you had, and your body was covered with wounds and bleeding all over.” His gaze landed on his right arm. “On top of that, your bones were cracked in several places, and one of your arms was completely broken.” He paused for a moment and sighed deeply. “Most people would have fainted if they had been so severely injured, yet you didn’t just manage to hang on and make your way here; you even managed to carry a man here. If I hadn’t seen it for myself, I wouldn’t have believed it.”

Rong Kaixuan smiled awkwardly. When he thought about how terrible he must have looked that day, he felt quite embarrassed.

Ye Jianhao laughed quietly. “Despite being so badly injured, you still used your last breath to beg me to save your Eldest Brother. Heh, if I still didn’t lend a helping hand at that point, I would have been the most heartless person in the world.”

Rong Kaixuan looked up at him and gratefully said, “Manager Ye, this might be a small matter to you, but I will never forget it.”

“You shouldn’t be able to forget at all,” the shop assistant from earlier said. “Your Eldest Brother was very badly poisoned. To stop the poison from getting worse, Manager Ye used his special privilege to waste a Level 3 pill…”

“Tsk.” Ye Jianhao suddenly scoffed quietly and coldly glared at the shop assistant.

The shop assistant’s expression quickly changed as he excused himself. He didn’t dare say anymore or even breathe too loudly.

Rong Kaixuan quickly said, “Manager Ye, words are not enough to express my gratitude.” He took a box out and held it out to Ye Jianhao. “Here is a small gift that I made. I hope you can accept it.”

Ye Jianhao looked at him strangely. He didn’t take the box from him. Instead, he asked, “Mister Rong, has your arm healed already?”

Rong Kaixuan was surprised by the question. He moved his arm about and replied, “It’s perfectly fine now.”

Ye Jianhao moved his lips in surprise but didn’t say anything. He thought that this was one lucky boy.

He had checked Rong Kaixuan’s injuries himself. Even though he didn’t have any fatal wounds, those fractures were very real. It had only been five days, but Rong Kaixuan was already able to move around so easily and didn’t look like he had suffered such serious injuries at all. That was a miracle in itself.

But as a manager at Donghua Treasure Hall, he had seen a lot of things.

He knew that there were medicines that could effectively heal injuries in days. Given the Rong family’s power and influence, it was possible for them to give such medicine to the one and only Spirit Gatherer of the family.

It just seemed like too much of a waste to do so.

That sort of pill was incredibly expensive.

Rong Kaixuan continued to hold the box above his head and looked at Ye Jianhao without saying anything.

Ye Jianhao hesitated for a moment but eventually took the box from Rong Kaixuan. After he opened it, his eyes instantly narrowed.

Four talismans were lying inside the box.

He had a keen eye and instantly knew what sort of talismans these were.

These were four Level 1 Supreme Grade Spirit Body Fighter Sealing Talismans.

Honestly, while these four talismans were worth 200 Spirit Coins, that wasn’t much money to Ye Jianhao. At his level, he was able to make transactions that were worth 10,000 or even more than 100,000 Spirit Coins. A gift worth 200 Spirit Coins wasn’t able to move him at all.

Since this gift was straight from a Spirit Gatherer, that was a different story altogether.

After carefully inspecting them, Ye Jianhao quietly replied, “These four Level 1 Supreme Grade Spirit Body Fighter Sealing Talismans were made the same way as the three you sold to the shop before. You just made these, didn’t you?”

Rong Kaixuan nodded seriously and replied, “That’s right.”

Ye Jianhao looked up. He hesitated for a moment before saying, “Mister Rong, please come with me.”

The two of them walked further into the shop and sat down in a quiet private room.

Ye Jianhao looked at Rong Kaixuan deeply and asked, “Mister Rong, are you able to reach Level 1 Supreme Grade every time you create a talisman?”

Rong Kaixuan paused for a moment but ended up replying honestly. “That’s right.”

If he hadn’t come with a request, he wouldn’t have minded lowering the quality of the talismans. Since he was here to ask Ye Jianhao for a pill, he couldn’t hide something so unimportant from the man.

Ye Jianhao looked seriously at him for a few moments. “Alright, our shop will take these four talismans, and I’ll pass you 200 Spirit Coins in a few moments.”

Rong Kaixuan was surprised by this reaction and quickly said, “Manager Ye, you’re mistaken. I intend to give these to you as a way of saying thanks.” He paused before saying, “This is just a small token from me. In the future, if you need me to do anything, as long as it’s within my means, I will get it done for you.”

Ye Jianhao laughed heartily and said, “Brother Rong, I understand your kind intentions. Heh, if you want to repay me, you just need to sell me more talismans in the future.” He continued to laugh as he said, “The more talismans you sell me, the more stable my position in the hall will become. That would be the best thing you could do for me.”

Without him realizing it, Ye Jianhao had naturally changed the way he addressed Rong Kaixuan. As a result, it drew them closer to one another.

Rong Kaixuan blinked a few times and finally asked, “Manager Ye, of course, I could sell you talismans, but don’t you think your buying price is a little too high?”

Rong Kaixuan had never heard of anybody buying and selling at exactly the same price. Even though he knew nothing about running a business, he knew that it was ridiculous.

Ye Jianhao laughed for a while before replying, “Brother Rong, perhaps you don’t know, but not just anybody can come here and buy Spiritualist items from us.”

Rong Kaixuan was puzzled and furrowed his eyebrows. What did that mean?

Ye Jianhao waved his hands and said, “You don’t have to worry about my business. I hope you can just trust me. As long as you’re willing to sell talismans to me, even if I increase my buying price by 10 percent, I still won’t make a loss.”

Rong Kaixuan’s head started spinning from thinking about that, but Ye Jianhao’s serious expression didn’t seem like he was lying.

“Alright, since that’s the case, I’ll have to trouble Manager Ye in the future.” This was the decision Rong Kaixuan came to after thinking through what Ye Jianhao said. Since he couldn’t understand it, he decided not to think about it anymore.

Ye Jianhao smiled and accepted the talismans. He called his assistant to prepare 200 Spirit Coins.

Rong Kaixuan hesitated and looked like he wanted to say something.

Of course, Ye Jianhao noticed his expression and burst out laughing. “Brother Rong, since we seem to hit it off so well and I call you my brother, why don’t you call me Brother Ye as well?”

Rong Kaixuan froze for a while and asked, “Wouldn’t that be a little too impudent of me?”

Ye Jianhao laughed loudly again and said, “I’m only a lowly manager here, while you are a Spirit Gatherer with a bright future ahead. If you’re not willing to, I won’t force you to either.”

Rong Kaixuan shook his head repeatedly and said, “Brother Ye, you’re mistaken. I’m more than happy to.”

Ye Jianhao nodded satisfactorily and said, “Since we’re now brothers, if there’s something on your mind, you shouldn’t hide it from your brother.” He looked seriously at Rong Kaixuan and asked, “What’s on your mind? Just tell me.”

Rong Kaixuan clenched his teeth and said, “Brother Ye, I would like to ask you for a Face Restoration Pill.”

“A Face Restoration Pill.” Ye Jianhao pursed his lips gently and asked, “Do you want it for your Eldest Brother?”

“That’s right,” Rong Kaixuan replied in a low voice. “Eldest Brother managed to survive this ordeal, but I heard from Grandpa Cai that the injuries on his face are still there. They’re terrifying, so…”

Ye Jianhao sighed quietly and said, “Face Restoration Pills are Level 3 Pills. Even though they’re very rare and expensive, I should be able to get one for you. But…” He shook his head and said, “The poison inside your Eldest Brother is a strange sort of poison from a Spiritual Beast. After taking a Face Restoration pill, he will be able to restore his looks, but I don’t think he can get back the color of his skin.”

Rong Kaixuan’s heart sank. “Brother Ye, is there no other solution to this problem?”

“There is a way,” Ye Jianhao calmly replied. “All things on this earth come in complementary pairs. Since there is a poison, there must be an antidote.”

Rong Kaixuan’s eyes instantly lit up. “Brother Ye, please enlighten me.”

Ye Jianhao laughed loudly and said, “There’s nothing to enlighten you about. From what I know, the poison he has is from a poisonous snake. If you want to completely remove this poison, besides taking a pill that’s at least Level 5 and above, some precious items in this world are also extremely effective for such things.”

Rong Kaixuan asked, “Brother Ye, how can I get a Level 5 pill?”

Ye Jianhao frowned slightly and sighed, “Brother Rong, if you were a Spiritualist Grandmaster, you would be eligible to ask for a Level 5 pill. But…”

Rong Kaixuan’s lips twitched slightly.

According to his knowledge, strong fighters like a Spiritualist Grandmasters were few and far in between. Even the entire Rong family might not have one.

Ye Jianhao coughed quietly and said, “Brother Rong, I think you should give up on the Level 5 pill for the time being. If you’re lucky and can find Five Colored Orpiment, getting rid of snake venom will not be a problem at all.”

Rong Kaixuan’s eyes lit up. He asked, “Brother Ye, what is Five Colored Orpiment, and where can I find it?”

Ye Jianhao replied, “Five Colored Orpiment is a very special sort of medicinal substance, and it has other incredible effects besides being able to dispel poison.” He paused for a while and said, “This substance can be found in the mature forests on deep mountains. As for how to find it, that will depend on fate.”

Rong Kaixuan nodded slowly. Many thoughts went through his mind.

“Brother Rong, I’ll give you a Face Restoration Pill later that you can give to him. Even though it won’t be able to dispel the poison inside him, it will be able to get rid of all the scars on his face. His skin will be a little dark, but at least he can go out.”

Rong Kaixuan got up and bowed very deeply toward Ye Jianhao.

After that, Rong Kaixuan took the pill and left.

The assistant seemed to understand and nodded. His eyes darted around, and he seemed to be in deep thought.

Ye Jianhao didn’t bother with him anymore. He had already explained the pros and cons of what he was doing, so he couldn’t do anything about how this nephew of his thought about it or whether he would be able to learn how to give up some things for greater future gain.
