Invincible Evocation - Chapter 59
Chapter 59: Communication Talismans
Rong Kaixuan was a little taken aback. He nodded thoughtfully as he thought more deeply about it.
He had plenty of Spirit Coins on him. The moment he found something he liked in any of the shops in the marketplace, he immediately bought it. He didn’t even try to bargain with the stall owners.
His method of buying was more than welcome among the shops, but what surprised Rong Kaixuan was that someone was actually bored enough to notice who was buying things like him.
The middle-aged man dropped his voice to a whisper and said, “Young sir, I’ll be honest with you. We’ve got some really good stuff that’s waiting to be sold. If the customer doesn’t have enough on him, we won’t waste any time trying to transact with him.”
Rong Kaixuan was curious and quietly asked, “What do you have? Let me have a look.”
He was within the Rong clan Main House and a direct descendant of the Rong clan. If he just gave a loud shout, a strong fighter from the clan would come to deal with them. Thus, Rong Kaixuan wasn’t very worried.
There was an awkward look on the middle-aged man’s face as he said, “Young sir, this item is really expensive. It’s not convenient for me to just take it out here.”
Rong Kaixuan scoffed quietly and replied, “If you want me to go to some secret room to do this transaction, you can forget about it.” He waved his hands and turned to leave.
He wasn’t afraid if they remained in a public place. If they went to a secluded place where nobody could find them or even had to leave the Main House, then Rong Kaixuan wasn’t going to care for this item even if it were something really amazing.
One had to constantly be on guard. He knew that rule well.
The middle-aged man hurriedly stopped him and said, “Young sir, don’t be in such a hurry to go. We can find a teahouse and get a private room to talk. How’s that?”
Rong Kaixuan paused for a while to think. He finally said, “Fine.” He looked around and pointed to a restaurant not too far from them. “We’ll go there to talk.”
The middle-aged man laughed hollowly and said, “You’re being really cautious, eh. I’ll go along with you.”
Seeing that he agreed with hesitation, Rong Kaixuan let down some of his guard.
The two of them walked into the restaurant and asked for a private room. Rong Kaixuan ordered a few simple dishes and went straight to the point. “What do you have? Take it out quickly. If it’s something really good, I won’t be stingy with you.”
The middle-aged man’s eyes lit up and said, “Alright, you’re really an efficient person.” He took a small box from behind him and opened it carefully. “Young sir, what do you think of these talismans?”
“Talismans?” Rong Kaixuan was surprised to hear that. His heart grew a little cold.
In recent weeks, he had created thousands of talismans. If this middle-aged man was holding onto a bunch of Spirit Body Fighter Sealing Talismans, that would be the greatest joke in the world.
The middle-aged man immediately caught Rong Kaixuan’s doubtful look and quickly explained, “Young sir, these are Communication Talismans that took me quite a bit of effort to get my hands on. You can have a look. These four pieces can gather enough energy automatically every two hours. Anything you write on one of them will appear simultaneously on the other talismans connected to it.” He took a while to swallow his saliva before anxiously saying, “These are all high-grade talismans, and they’re treasures taken from the battlefield. These cannot be compared to ordinary items.”
Rong Kaixuan’s eyes widened. His heart started pounding.
Talismans were a major branch that was part of Spiritualist cultivation.
Besides Spirit Body Fighter Sealing Talismans and Spirit Body Spellcaster Sealing Talismans, there were also other extremely special talismans for other uses.
Communication Talismans were one of those special ones.
But Rong Kaixuan had never read manuals on creating Communication Talismans in the first story of the Manuals Library. That was enough to tell him that this item was really valuable and no ordinary Spiritualist level cultivator could get their hands on them.
There was a glint in his eye as Rong Kaixuan looked seriously at the other party.
Even though one shouldn’t judge a book by its cover, Rong Kaixuan was unable to sense any bit of True Qi or Spirit Power moving within this man sitting across from him.
It was as if this middle-aged man was an ordinary person, but the chances of an ordinary person getting Communication Talismans were almost zero. Thus, either this person or the person backing him had a huge amount of influence.
The middle-aged man smiled sheepishly. He seemed to be able to read Rong Kaixuan’s thoughts. “Young sir, my friend is the one who asked me to find a buyer for these Communication Talismans. Whoever is willing to pay the highest price will take these from me.”
Rong Kaixuan quietly asked, “Since you’ve shown me something so valuable, aren’t you afraid that I’ll snatch them from you?”
The middle-aged man’s shoulders drooped as he said, “It’s fine if you didn’t know what these items are, but if you do, you would know how precious these things are. Heh, since my friend was able to get his hands on something like this, then, of course, he’s no ordinary person. You’re so generous with your money, so I don’t think you would want to clash with my friend over a bit of money, right?”
Rong Kaixuan chuckled and said, “You’ve got a point.”
He took the box. Four talismans were lying flat inside. He randomly took one of them out.
These talismans looked like ordinary pieces of parchment paper. When he held one in his hands, he felt the tremendous amount of Spirit Power flowing within it.
Rong Kaixuan asked in a low voice, “Can I test them out?”
“Of course you can,” the middle-aged man replied with a smile. “If you don’t test them out, who would believe that these are rare Communication Talismans?”
Rong Kaixuan nodded his head. He stretched a finger out and lightly drew on the talisman in his hand.
As his finger moved on the talisman, a row of words clearly appeared on it. The even more incredible part was how the exact same words appeared on the remaining three talismans at the same time.
Rong Kaixuan quietly watched this happen. He took all the talismans out and wrote some nonsense on each of them with his finger.
He was amazed to see that no matter which talisman he wrote on, the same message appeared on the other talismans.
After some time, he was certain that these talismans were the legendary Communication Talismans.
Rong Kaixuan took a deep breath and asked, “How much are you asking for?”
The middle-aged man laughed merrily and stuck one finger out. “Young sir, I don’t ask for much. This is enough.”
Rong Kaixuan blinked his eyes twice. “A hundred Spirit Coins?”
The middle-aged man froze for a while. His face twitched hard several times as he finally managed to squeeze a sad smile on his face. “Young sir, you’re joking with me, right? That amount of money can’t even buy the material to make this talisman. Besides, we’re taking a really high risk in selling something like this.”
Rong Kaixuan frowned and asked, “Are you asking for a thousand Spirit Coins?”
“That’s right.” The middle-aged man nodded. “A thousand Spirit Coins is the lowest I will go. Any less than that and I’ll leave immediately.”
Rong Kaixuan looked at him for a while and seemed to be a little undecided.
The middle-aged man’s gaze landed on Rong Kaixuan’s hand and said, “You even have a storage ring, so don’t tell me you can’t bear to part with a thousand Spirit Coins?”
Rong Kaixuan laughed loudly and said, “Your eyes are really sharp. Alright, I’ll buy them from you.” He flicked his wrist. He took out a pouch of money and passed it to the man.
The middle-aged man checked the amount and said with a smile, “This deal is closed, thanks for the business.” He politely clasped his fists together and immediately left.
Rong Kaixuan blinked several times. For some reason, he felt a little uneasy inside.
He quickly got up, paid the bill, and left. He ran all the way home and went to Rong Jielin’s room.
His grandfather was much more knowledgeable compared to him. If there were any problems with these talismans, his grandfather would be able to tell.
Rong Jielin quietly listened to his grandson tell him what happened and carefully checked the talismans. After that, he shook his head and sighed, “Kaixuan, you’re really quite lucky. You actually managed to run into something quite wonderful.”
Rong Kaixuan was surprised and asked, “Grandpa, there’s nothing wrong with these talismans at all?”
Rong Jielin slowly said, “These talismans are slightly torn, but they still work. There aren’t any obvious issues. These are normally owned by some huge clan or are a must-have for generals who go to war. If my guess is right, these talismans were probably damaged in a battle. Someone took them back, restored them, and put them up for sale.”
Rong Kaixuan frowned a little and said, “Are these restored talismans reliable?”
Rong Jielin thought about it for a while and replied, “If you’re on a huge battlefield, the enemy would use all sorts of methods to cut your communications off. So, this sort of Communication Talisman might not be reliable. But if you’re talking about going into the mountains, these talismans would be of great use.”
Rong Kaixuan’s eyes lit up. “That’s right. As long as Eldest Brother, Second Brother, and I hold onto one talisman each, we can keep in constant contact with one another.” He excitedly said, “If the three of us don’t walk together, we can increase the area covered by three times. With this in hand, we can continue to keep in contact and look out for one another.”
Rong Jielin laughed merrily and said, “That’s right. That’s why I said that you were lucky to be able to buy these Communication Talismans by just shopping around the marketplace.”
Rong Kaixuan smiled humbly as he got lost in his thoughts.
His luck was not bad at all. Someone had brought him something he needed the most right at the right time.
Just when both grandfather and grandson were in the midst of their excitement, Rong Cai quietly walked in and said, “Young Master Kaixuan, Lady Wang Xiaoxiao is here to see you.”
Rong Kaixuan was pleasantly surprised and excitedly replied, “Senior Wang is here, so I’ll go out and see her.”
Rong Jielin smiled bitterly and shook his head as he watched his grandson run out of the room like a wisp of smoke. “This young fellow is really not steady enough.”
Rong Cai smiled faintly and said, “Master, in my opinion, Lady Wang seems to be a little interested in Young Master Kaixuan. Do you think…”
Rong Jielin hummed to himself before finally replying, “Lady Wang’s position in the clan is not ordinary. She’s considered a visiting apprentice to the Rong clan, so even the Elders dare not be rude to her.” He paused for a while and said, “Kaixuan might be really gifted, but nobody knows if he will attract her attention or not.”
Rong Cai shook his head and replied, “Master, Young Master Kaixuan is the most gifted and determined person I’ve ever seen, so I’m sure he’s worthy of Lady Wang.”
Rong Jielin nodded slowly. After a moment, he started to frown as he said, “I’ve also heard that there’s something wrong with Lady Wang’s health, so she might not be a good choice either.”
Rong Cai was shocked. “There’s something wrong with Lady Wang’s health? I can’t tell at all.”
Rong Jielin looked hard at Rong Cai and said, “That’s what Eldest Brother said. It’s fine if you know, but don’t tell anyone else.”
“I understand.” Rong Cai bowed his head deeply and didn’t speak any more on this subject.
Rong Jielin’s gaze darkened as he quietly said, “We don’t have to stop them, and we also don’t have to push them. We’ll just leave it to fate.”
