[Hated Hero, Enjoying School Life]
The next morning.
Today’s classes were centered on lectures, and I spent my time focused on grasping the situation around me.
With us, students, having been separated into different classes according to our elements, we were also being taught different subjects, too.
That wasn’t to say we would have no interaction with students from other classes, however.
Some lectures and practical lessons like yesterday’s mock battle would be held jointly, and since our class hours were the same, students from different classes could chat in the corridor during break time.
Incidentally, the homeroom teacher announced that Raul had regained consciousness before the first class started.
The other students reacted with indifference, but this was pleasant news to me.
It would be worth trying to go to the infirmary after school and ask him what happened during the mock battle. Though, the teachers would likely inquire about it first.
As for classes, I could somehow manage with Barrett’s knowledge.
His personality was terribly twisted, but his capabilities were real. He had a great memory.
One thing to note was that during class, I noticed the teachers’ gaze would often drift toward me.
It was clear to me that the original Barrett used to be unreasonable during class as well. There was even one teacher that nervously came up to me and asked about how I was doing while trembling and sweating buckets.
However, my reputation among the students apparently had started to change little by little.
Of course, I was still far off from winning their sincere trust, but all in all, it was a satisfying result for me.
No need to rush, I’d take it slowly and steadily.
And at least for the time being, it appeared I’d better worry about Raul than myself, anyway.
Afterschool.
Club activities existed in this world as well. However, they were quite unlike the ones in my previous life, and I believed it would be more accurate to call them committee activities.
Tayte’s Horticulture Committee was one such example.
“You’re going to the Horticulture Committee today, right?”
When the class was over, I talked to Tayte, who was sitting in the seat beside mine. By the way, in this academy, you could freely pick your seat, so I firmly vowed to myself to always sit next to Tayte going forward.
“Yes, I am.”
“In that case… can I come along?”
“But of course!”
I’d promised before.
Tayte loved gardening, so I’d garden together with her to raise her affection for me. Well, I liked gardening too, and I was interested in the plants in this world.
Okay, I’d stop by the Horticulture Committee before going to meet Raul.
On the way to the committee room of the Horticulture Committee, Tayte was radiating such a clear joy.
When I asked why,
“It was my dream to do Horticulture Committee activities together with you, Barrett.”
So she said.
“That will no longer be a dream.”
“Huh?”
“I’ll join the Horticulture Committee, too.”
“Will you really?! That’s great!” Tayte looked extremely delighted.
Even though I was just joining the same committee as her.
Looking at her smile… made me want to make her happier.
Compared to how she was in the original storyline, becoming a part of the harem and all, the way she was now was a million times better—at least that was how it seemed to me…
◇◇◇
The Horticulture Committee used a small two-story cottage as their committee room.
Surrounding the cottage was a little garden with colorful flowers in full bloom. This was where they mainly did their activities, huh.
As Tayte and I were about to enter, a person happened to come out from inside.
It was a boy with short black hair and round glasses. The color of the line on his uniform was green—indicating that this person was one year older than us.
“Hello, Chairman Hanz,” Tayte gave him a greeting.
I see.
So this person was the committee chairman.
“Why, hello there, Tayte… Mm? Aren’t you—”
“Hello, nice to meet you, I am—”
“B-B-B-Barrett Albers?!” Chairman Hanz began to tremble.
Barrett Albers might be the last person in the world he wished to see here, but did he really need to shake that much upon the sight of me…?
My image among the students in the same year had started to improve, but it appeared that it hadn’t yet permeated into other years.
“C-Chairman! It’s okay! Barrett is not the old Barrett anymore!” Tayte hurriedly said to calm him down.
“Huh? O-oh, yeah, n-now that you mention it, it would have been impossible to see you two together here, otherwise.” Hanz said with a nod, seemingly convinced.
No, why would it be impossible for two engaged people to be together?
As I was left amazed by the original Barrett, a girl walked over in our direction.
The line on her uniform was red.
She was in the same year as Tayte and I.
“Hello, Tayte.”
“Ah, Melia.”
It seemed that because both of them were members of the Horticulture Committee, the two were on good terms. However—
“…Huh?”
What was going on?
I remembered the face and name of this Melia girl.
Why?
I didn’t even remember Cornell’s face and name, who was also my classmate…
As I was wondering, my eyes met with Melia’s—
“—!” she promptly turned her face away, her cheeks reddened.
Huh?
What was with that reaction…
