[Promise]
After taking part in the activities of the Horticulture Committee—though 80% of which was a tea party—I returned to the dormitory along with Tayte.
“Those two are good people,” I remarked along the way.
“Yes. Thanks to them, I could enjoy committee activities every day,” Tayte said with a smile.
“That’s good to hear. What kind of flowers are you growing currently?”
“Let’s see, one of them is—” Tayte talked about her activities in the Horticulture Committee with a sincerely happy look on her face.
Though he had a nasty side to him, Hanz seemed to be a kind person, so was Melia—
“…………”
Right.
That Melia girl… her attitude toward me was strange until the end. I wondered if she really was one of Barrett’s ‘multiple girlfriends in the academy’ mentioned in the original storyline.
For some reason, the information regarding that was vague even in his memories.
Could it be that, to the original Barrett, she was only one of his numerous women, hence why he only remembered her name and face? What a scum.
If so, I had to somehow clear things up with her.
After all, I already had Tayte!
“—that’s why I’m planning of going to town to buy new pots on the next holiday.”
“Is that so?”
“……Um.”
“Hm?” I tilted my head.
Tayte was fidgeting for some reason.
Like she wanted to say something important… but couldn’t bring herself to.
She was radiating such complicated emotions.
Uh, what did she say before that again? The Horticulture Committee was going to plant new flowers, so on the next holiday, she was planning to go buy new pots—ah.
“In that case, how about we go together?” I asked.
“Huh?! Are you sure?!” Tayte’s eyes shone immediately.
A man and woman going out together on a holiday—in other words,
“A date it is.”
“Dat-?! …Yes.”
She probably wanted to invite me out on one all along, but perhaps my expressing it so straightforwardly made her embarrassed, she blushed and looked down.
“Tayte?”
“Ah, I-I’m sorry. It’s just… I’m happy.”
“Happy?”
“Yes. For a very long time, I’ve always hoped… we could get along like this and go out on a d-date…” Tayte’s voice was trembling.
…Her parents had decided on her fiancé without asking her opinion, and furthermore, said fiancé had been treating her harshly up until just recently. Yet, just going out together with him made her so happy.
“Then we’ve got to make sure our first date is a memorable one, right?”
“Y-yes. That’s true.” Tayte fumbled her words.
She didn’t have to be so nervous.
“Let’s go out more from now on, Tayte.”
“C-can we?!”
“But of course. We’re engaged—meaning, we’re gonna get married in the future. We’ve got to know each other better before then, don’t you agree?”
“Yes!” said Tayte, smiling happily.
The original Tayte joined the harem in the early parts, and she rarely made an appearance in the later parts. Last I read—the newest chapter before I got reincarnated—she even hadn’t appeared in the main storyline in the last 20 chapters.
I got the author’s feelings of wanting to prioritize the newer characters, but since my—I mean Barrett Albers’s defeat, they had turned Tayte’s presence in the novel to be the same as air, basically. Well, to be fair, the size of the harem had nearly reached double digits, so there was no helping it… but was it really?
Anyway, this was all I could say.
The original Barrett was a real piece of trash. Looking to the future, Tayte’s decision to leave him was correct.
But… what if, from the beginning, Tayte had feelings, even if little, for Barrett?
Even if Barrett had mended his ways out of nowhere, how could she so easily get along with him considering the pain he had made her through…? The only way to explain that was if Tayte was serious about Barrett despite him being the fiancé her parents had decided without her consent…
――I would never let Tayte suffer such sadness.
The one to make Tayte Ehrenberg happy would be me, not the Protagonist Raul. I’d make Tayte happy. As such, I had to be a man suitable for Tayte, who was looking forward to the date with me.
For that, I first had to… set my relationship with other girls straight.
Looking up at the orange sky, so I vowed to myself once again.
Afterward, we talked about the date until we arrived at the dormitory.
She was going to buy pots, but apparently, she planned to stop by various other shops, too.
The holiday was three days later.
I couldn’t wait for it.
◇◇◇
Because the dormitories for men and women were separate, we parted ways near the girls’ dormitory.
Tayte repeatedly looked back at me until she finally entered the dormitory, as though she was really reluctant to part with me. But we would meet again for dinner in another hour, and then chat in the public lounge. We could stay together there until the lights were off.
“Now, should I go back?”
I decided to do the homework given today until it was time for dinner.
The original Barrett apparently was never given any homework, but I’d decided to ask the teachers to give one to me like the other students.
As I was walking toward the men’s dormitory—
“Can you spare us some time, little lady killer?”
—someone called out to me, prompting me to look back, and—
“Heya. It’s been a day.”
“Sorry, but we have to have you follow us… Barrett Albers.”
—there I found Ms. Teixeira. Next to her was Mr. Walker, the head of year, with his arms crossed.
The fact that these two were together… probably meant they were here regarding Raul’s case.
