[The Future of the Protagonist Raul]
“Err… to what do I owe this pleasure?”
Ms. Teixeira answered my question. “Knowing you, you should already have a rough idea, right? We’re here regarding Raul Lorenz.”
My guess was right on the mark, huh.
…This was beside the point, but the setting sun reflected off Mr. Walter’s skinhead, and it dazzled me.
“Is there something wrong?”
“N-no, not at all.”
The person himself didn’t seem to be aware of it, but the teacher next to him, Ms. Teixeira, was already desperately holding back her laughter. If my memory served me right, in the original storyline, it said these two had been together since their school days. The petite Ms. Teixeira and the roughly two meters tall, big-built, and old-faced Mr. Walter… for those not in the know, it wouldn’t be weird to mistake them for a pair of father and daughter.
As I was thinking about such things, Ms. Teixeira, who had finally reined in her urge to laugh, deliberately cleared her throat “Cough,” and then said, “It’s an important matter, so I think it’d be best if we first change location… would that be okay with you?”
“…I understand.”
I couldn’t possibly refuse, could I?
I’d just do my homework after this so-called important matter was over.
It pained me to lose flirting time with Tayte, but I had to do this for my Image Rising Plan also.
◇◇◇
We moved to the drawing room, which was right next to the teachers’ room in the Central Academic Building.
I must say, it was one nice room, but…
“Sorry about this. You must be tired after school,” said Mr. Walter.
“It’s okay… more importantly, what had happened that we needed so far as to move here?” I asked.
“Well… Raul Lorenz has woken up.”
“!”
I see, so Raul had woken up.
“It appears that he lost consciousness because his body couldn’t handle the sudden sharp increase and decrease in mana… but fortunately, it posed no risk to his life,” Mr. Walter explained.
“Oh, right. Did he say anything regarding the burst of mana back then?” I inquired.
“He had no memory of it, apparently,” said Ms. Teixeira, seemingly finding it unfortunate.
Well, it was obvious Raul back then was not his normal self no matter how you looked at him. But if that was true… could it be that—
“It was the influence of the Demon Sword, perhaps?”
“We also suspected that, but… the chances are practically nil,” Ms. Teixeira shook her head.
“Why so?” I asked.
“The assumption was made based on the state of the Demon Sword at the time. He did carry his Demon Sword while fighting with the training sword, but… it displayed no change whatsoever.”
I kind of got the feeling that was the case, too.
But, if the Demon Sword had nothing to do with it—what was the cause, then?
“The reason we called you this time was to ask if you noticed anything when you were fighting Raul in that state,” said Mr. Walter, taking a notebook and a pen out of his breast pocket.
I see.
So this was a police interview of sorts.
“At the time, I felt like Raul… changed into a different person momentarily. Just as I wondered what happened to him, the intense burst of mana struck me,” I said.
“And right after that, his strength and speed increased dramatically,” Ms. Teixeira added.
“Yes,” I nodded. All the while, Mr. Walter wrote down the whole conversation.
“Sooo, what is your thought on it?”
“My thought…?”
A meaningful question from Ms. Teixeira.
This… depending on my answer… Raul’s future would surely be affected.
“…I’m not sure about the circumstances, but what I am sure of is his going berserk was not a voluntary decision.”
“Hmm. Why are you so sure?”
“Looking at how Raul Lorenz was until now, that is only natural.”
Raul was a hard worker, every teacher in this academy knew that.
In the original storyline, he had always been training by himself until he caught the eye of the Holy Knight Klaus.
Later on, he compensated for his low stats with the power of the Demon Sword and demonstrated unrivaled prowess, but until then, his efforts proved fruitless. But still, his efforts ended up being well-known by many teachers and students, leading to Barrett getting his just dessert.
“You… have changed,” Mr. Walter murmured.
Ms. Teixeira also nodded, satisfaction written on her face.
In the end, I asked them to let me have a rematch with Raul, and with that, the interview was over.
◇◇◇
It was already an hour before the lights out when I returned to the dormitory.
“I wonder if I’d be able to finish my homework in time…”
Ms. Teixeira and Mr. Walter had given me a bento for dinner, but I hadn’t done any of my homework. No helping it, I guess. If push comes to shove, I’d just pull an all-nighter.
At that time—
“Barrett!”
Someone called out to me right before I entered the men’s dormitory.
This voice…
“Tayte?!”
It was Tayte.
“What were you doing here this late?”
“I was waiting for you,” said Tayte smilingly.
But why?
“You wouldn’t be able to finish your homework in time by yourself, right?”
“Y-yeah.”
“That’s why I came to help you.”
“Ta-Tayte…”
“I already asked for permission to use the lounge. Now, Let’s go ♪.”
With that, Tayte took my hand.
…She was being somewhat assertive, wasn’t she?
In the original storyline, Tayte was portrayed as a modest and graceful young lady, but perhaps in truth, she had a bright and lively personality all along.
I grasped back Tayte’s small hand, then we headed for the lounge.
