Chapter 419: Chapter 417: Saving a Spot
Chapter two isn’t finished yet, just claiming a spot.
I’ll make changes before 0:30.
In the azure abyss, a silhouette laboriously grew from small to large.
At the edge of the crevasse, which was narrowing, Bi Fang slowly moved to the left and began to climb upwards, viciously hacking his ice axe into the wall of cream-like ice to find his foothold—each step a concerted effort filled with agony.
He climbed up like a worm.
Stab, kick, shift, repeat.
There was complete numbness between his palms and the ice axe; perhaps they were frozen, or maybe they were necrotic. It all turned into an obsession for survival.
“Maybe I’m already unconscious, and this is all a hallucination,”
Fei She thought, unable to believe that the man, severely injured in a crevice and still able to move up over a hundred meters, was himself.
Finally, after what seemed like the umpteenth time mechanically swinging the axe upwards, he glimpsed a patch of blue sky.
Fei She longed to rest but he couldn’t afford to let go. If he did, he would die.
He propped himself up to lie there, half in, half out, totally exhausted and unable to move.
Five minutes later, with a final burst of energy, he forced his body forward and fell onto the solid ground. He staggered to his feet, only to collapse again.
He couldn’t walk; he could barely get down on his knees. It was only then that Fei She realized how broken his body was; dragging his fractured ribs over the ice wall, he knew that unless his companions found him, he wouldn’t survive. Maybe he was bleeding internally and needed rescue.
But just as he was about to hit the ground, a hand fiercely grabbed him.
Fei She opened his frost-covered eyes. A hallucination?
There was actually someone there.
After an avalanche, there was still someone. This must be a delusion, right?
Fei She weakly opened his mouth as if to say something but after struggling for a while, he didn’t cry for help or even say thanks.
“Got any coffee? Preferably hot.”
“Quick, rescue him!”
Upon receiving a response, Fei She passed out completely.
Yao Jun and Jerret arrived beside Bi Fang and shivered as they looked at Fei She’s miserable body, which looked like a demon that had crawled out of hell, not a human.
His clothes and the corners of his mouth were caked with icy fresh blood; his left hand dangled uselessly, eerily elongated compared to his right; his left ankle was also twisted irregularly.
The sight made both men’s teeth ache and they couldn’t help but think, if it hadn’t been for Bi Fang, would they be in the same state?
Glancing into the crevice, the cutting wind on his face, Yao Jun banished the thought. He probably couldn’t even climb out, only wait to die below.
The viewers felt dizzy.
[This guy is tough]
[Is this what an avalanche victim looks like?]
[Fuck, this is too damn terrifying]
[I can’t handle this, I’m going to have nightmares]
[Master Fang, censor it for me, I’m scared]
In the live broadcast room, Fei She’s ghastly face was quickly censored.
Bi Fang carefully laid Fei She on the ground: “Yao Jun, look for some ID on him that can prove his identity. Jerret, do you have any hot water?”
“Oh, yes.”
“Give him a little.”
Bi Fang quickly undid the man’s clothes and discovered extensive bruising to his chest and abdomen, drawing a sharp intake of breath: “Bleeding from the mouth and nose, body swelling, muscle tense and turning purplish; these are symptoms of internal bleeding!”
[Internal bleeding, he’s not going to die, is he?]
[Damn, this is serious, isn’t it?]
[Not necessarily, it depends on what kind of internal bleeding it is and whether there are any symptoms of shock or respiratory arrest. If he could climb out of such a deep glacier, I think it might not be that serious.]
“Jerret, use the backpack to prop up his leg.”
“Oh, oh.”
Bi Fang pressed down on the man’s right hand, trying to take the ice axe from his grip. As soon as he pried the fingers open, a thin layer of skin was torn apart. The ice axe and the man’s palm had completely frozen together, causing viewers to feel a tingling sensation on their scalps.
[My god, that’s terrifying.]
Bi Fang took the warm water from Jerret and slowly poured it over the man’s hand. Only after the bloody ice melted was he able to successfully remove the ice axe, and then he pressed the wrist to check the pulse.
After a while, Yao Jun asked nervously, “How is it?”
Growing up, Yao Jun had never seen someone die before his eyes. He had thought death wasn’t a big deal, but now that it was actually happening, he was genuinely nervous, and his speech was slightly stammering.
Feeling the heartbeat, Bi Fang’s brows slowly eased: “It’s okay, his heart rate is stable, it’s just simple fainting, not shock. Now we can only suspect internal bleeding, possibly due to broken ribs, but it doesn’t seem too severe. At least no vital organs were damaged, otherwise he couldn’t have possibly climbed out of the abyss.”
“So what do we do now?”
“We can’t do anything.” Bi Fang shook his head. He knew survival and first aid, but he wasn’t a doctor and didn’t know how to operate. Even if he did, there were no conditions for it now. “The best thing to do for an internal bleeding patient is to keep still, elevate the legs to redistribute the blood flow due to gravity, and then wait for rescue. Any significant movement could potentially exacerbate the internal injury.”
“Over at the shoulder…” Bi Fang looked and looked again.
Subway, elderly, mobile phone.
“It’s not just a simple dislocation; the scapula might be fractured, and there might be a lot of shattered bones. Surgery is a must. As for the ankle…” Bi Fang paused. “I can handle the ankle.”
Bi Fang took off his shoes and felt the other person’s ankle. It was just a dislocated ankle joint with no fragmented bones, and he popped it right back into place.
“If anyone encounters a dislocation, don’t try to handle it without proper experience. It’s best to take it to a professional hospital and have a doctor fix it. Yao Jun, do you have a towel? Wrap his ankle and then apply a cold compress. The best way to do cold compresses is with a towel in between to prevent frostbite.”
After hearing this, Yao Jun went to look for a towel but ended up pulling out an ID card: “Oh, right, I found this on him.”
Bi Fang took the work card, somewhat surprised: “Fei She? He’s Fei She?”
[Holy shit, the guide from the same company as Rob! The guide for the Japanese and the Texan! Where are they?]
[This guy is tough.]
[Awesome, truly awesome. Internal bleeding plus a dislocated left hand, and he climbed out of the crevasse alone, that’s just exaggerating…]
[Is this what legends are made of?]
[The guide is here, could the others be too? They’re not trapped in the crevasse, are they?]
Bi Fang took off his headlamp and shone it down into the crevice, but he found no other figures until he had walked more than fifty meters and then saw a very familiar figure lying in the crevice.
The drone slowly descended, and the viewers gasped and covered their mouths.
[Is that Wessels…]
[I hardly dare to watch…]
[Though the other party was very rude, ‘Ashes to ashes, dust to dust, may the deceased rest in peace.’]
[This is clearly a horror live broadcast.]
[This streamer has such a strong background, they can broadcast this sort of thing?]
[Nonsense, see the little red star after the name? Official verification, you kidding me?]
Atop the crevice, Bi Fang shone his light down to the very bottom. Sunlight struck his back, and the blue light of the glacier reflected onto his face, flowing slowly, making it somewhat indistinct.
Dozens of meters apart, heaven and hell.
Sigh.
After a silence, Bi Fang exhaled a sigh.
It was the second time someone had died before him.
