Livestreaming the Hunt - Chapter 26
Chapter 26: Manipulated
Only then did Wang Kui notice that at some point, an option had been added to the [Legacy Item: Teeth Necklace] dangling over his neck: Would you like to absorb the wolfdog’s tooth?
Yes!
At that thought, he felt the thundering roar of a tiger in his head:
Rawr—!
All at once, a violent force… actually, he did not feel it much as it was an overall improvement of one percent, not a full one hundred percent improvement.
Nevertheless, the difference was definitely there.
Another tooth had now appeared on the Teeth Necklace he was wearing.
“No way. I extracted a dog tooth just like that?!”
Still, Wang Kui breathed a sigh of relief after studying the System. It seemed that the tooth was merely a corresponding symbol that could be hidden and had nothing to do with his actual quarry.
[Current Number of Spoils: 1]
[Two more tiers to special passive tier.]
Other things aside…
Wang Kui had had the coarse aura of a veteran hunter in the first place. With the wolfdog’s tooth necklace, he looked three times eviler now!
And next up was…
[Hunting Partner Ticket]
[Item description: Every hunter needs a partner to fight alongside with. It could be a hunting dog or a male eagle. It will become your life partner in your journey as a hunter and is the best comrade who would aid you, an eternal and irreplaceable influence in each other’s life.]
[Item introduction: This ticket can only be used on non-human animals. You will unlock the hunting partner function after use and automatically gain the option of registering your partner in the national legal system. It is advised that you choose wisely.]
The introduction was simple and easy to understand.
Still, he had not used it directly on the wolfdog today because he had been afraid of running into surprises.
And just as expected, there was no regretting once the ticket was used. It would be better to use it on the wolfdog tomorrow after he had ensured that he could adopt it!
After he was done adjusting the items, next up was his Hunting Points.
Having accomplished two System Requests, he had earned a total of 800 Hunting Points. “The only currency in the shop that can be used for lottery and strengthening…”
He muttered the item description and opened the shop with his thoughts.
Wow!
There was a huge burst the moment he entered!
Within a dark timber room, a massive Russian roulette hung upon a wall. The pictures of various prizes were drawn on the wall, and they were labeled in white, purple, and orange.
[White Class Card: Track-and-field athlete
White Class Card: Soldier, white Beretta double-barreled shotgun, purple activated carbon hunting suit
Purple Class Card: Threat-handler specialist,
Orange Ship-type Transport Ticket x1…]
[Rolling method: 60 Hunting Points for one roll, 270 Hunting Points for five rolls.]
(Note: You will accumulate Luck with each roll and stand a chance of winning Soul of the Hunt. Accumulation of 100 Luck points guarantees the Soul of the Hunt. Once it manifests, your Luck points will be cleared while your Soul of the Hunt can be exchanged for orange-master items!)
Leaving aside the assortment of reward items, the lottery mode left Wang Kui’s brain humming.
Did Tencent develop this Hunting System?
Why do I get the feeling that I’m being duped…?
Changing to the ‘Strengthening’ page, the background of the timber room remained, but it now displayed his image and the System items he wore.
So, I’m actually that handsome…
Wang Kui lowered his gaze ‘shyly’ and fiddled around for half a day until he finally understood the strengthening system.
There were two aspects when it came to strengthening: One of the aspects was himself and the class card which was divided into three tiers.
For the first tier, his physical stats would be below 150%, his class card would be white, and it would cost 100 Hunting Points. As for the second tier, his physical stats would be between 150% and 200%, his class card would be purple, and it would cost 200 Hunting Points. Lastly, for the third tier, his physical stats would be below 200%, his class card would be orange, and it would cost 400 Hunting Points.
Moreover, the strengthening of his physical stats was not counted with a multiplier, but by a regressive percentage.
In other words, even if his stats were strengthened up to 200%, he would not be twice as strong as a human. After all, it was a Hunting System, not a Superman System nor a Hulk System.
Nevertheless, one thing was for sure—if he managed to strengthen himself up to the third tier, he would stand amongst the best of humankind in physical prowess.
On the other hand, the second aspect of strengthening was through items.
Different items had different strengthening and consumption, which was something that Wang Kui was concerned about.
Judging from his last mission, the System did not demand that he carry out his missions with System items. In other words, he could spend his own money for purchases and save up Hunting Points, strengthening his physique and class card which couldn’t be bought in reality.
Embarrassingly, however…
The additional abilities from new class cards could only be obtained through lotteries, which was random!
Moreover, items from the System could be strengthened to gain certain special abilities. After having read through the effects of orange items, he could see how outrageous those could be.
Still, buying equipment in reality would cost a lot.
The items from the System were top-tier items. Even if all his items were white at the moment, buying his equipment from outdoor equipment shops would cost at least ten or twenty thousand dollars.
The strengthening needed to be effective, just as the lottery must be rolled!
The more he thought about it, the more Wang Kui found the System to be illogical, and he wondered why it felt like a Tencent trap… I mean, why did he feel as though he was being manipulated by the System…
After pondering over it for a long while, he finally decided to focus on strengthening himself during the early stages and use the lottery as a backup.
He would first strengthen his reflexes, speed, and acceleration!
The path of an assassin!
Be it the mindset he had gained through his hunter class card or humankind’s scientific research, barring social and collective creatures, felines were universally acknowledged as the strongest species when it came to individual hunting effectiveness.
As everyone knows, the strength of cats lay in their ability to burst forward, landing a single, lethal strike!
An assassin was the most ideal path with obvious results gained in the short term. After all, with a human’s physique, flight was possible even if fight was not!
Apologies to the warriors or tanks.
Would you dare to tank damage in the early game?
Wang Kui did not. He feared pain, and he would rather leave the Leeroy Jenkins work to the wolfdog, his future bro!
Hence, he spent 500 Hunting Points on his muscular regulation, central nervous system, as well as his adrenaline burst, along with another 200 Hunting points on his hunter’s card!
One must say that the class card was very useful!
[Purple Class Card: Hunter Lv2]
[Class authority: Hunting permit registered at the national forestry department, legal possession of cold weapons.]
[Class ability: You have gained mastery over outdoor survival skills; usage of cold weapons, traps, and hunting techniques; processing quarry; beast-taming, application and riding; basic knowledge and application of hot weapons.]
All at once and for the second time, Wang Kui felt a great many new things being added into his head, and this included how to use hunting dogs and hunting rifles.
He now knew everything about that mix-breed Laizhou Hong which he had not known before.
Moreover, judging from the wolfdog’s attributes and temperament, it was built for endurance for battle!
