Livestreaming the Hunt - Chapter 28
Chapter 28: Getting A New Bro
[Awesome! Old Kui, I was right in supporting you!]
[Aren’t you just showing off? Two thousand bucks wouldn’t amount to much after getting so many gifts!]
[Dear keyboard warrior, could you donate a buck? Don’t go for moral blackmail here, okay?]
[Secret Strategic Department Big Shot gifted streamer Airplanes x2—Gifting is a peace of mind. Even if not, gifting is still fine. Whatever the case may be, those three perspectives should be supported until the end!]
The viewers of Wang Kui’s stream could not help being earnestly awed by his words, and all of them insisted that they would support him.
That was when a man with a squared face, carrying an imposing aura even though he was not angry and looked to be in his forties, approached Wang Kui, looking at him with an appreciative expression. “Interested in joining the force, young man? At the Fangshan County here…”
“Chief, I asked him that yesterday. However, he has no such intention since he has other priorities!”
Officer Zhao cut the man short with a wave.
To think that the chief of the station himself would approach Wang Kui personally… the kid was truly a treasure!
“Thanks for the offer, sir, but I definitely have no such intention for now…”
Wang Kui scratched his head and chuckled.
That was when Officer Zhao received a call. When he hung up, he told them that forensics had received their test results, and Wang Kui could go and pick up the wolfdog now.
[Great! We can finally see the wolfdog again!]
[Haha! Old Kui has formally accepted a bro!]
[Wolfdog opening theory?]
The city’s police station was not that far away from police kennels as both were on the edge of the counties.
Past the gates, one could see a vast lawn field with various wooden boards and ropes training equipment kept on it.
An elderly trainer then led Wang Kui and Officer Zhao to the innermost kennels.
At the edge of the corridor in the building were single kennels on both ends.
Most of the dogs trained in this police kennel were working dogs like German Shepherds or its mixed-breed variants, while local breeds such as the Laizhou Hong were non-existent.
For one, demand for Laizhou Hong had been overhyped before to the point that it was as valuable as a Tibetan Mastiff at the height of its popularity. Secondly, the species itself was excessively aggressive and very difficult to tame.
In contrast, the police force demanded absolute obedience toward orders as well as discipline, which was why the Laizhou Hong breed was clearly a better fit for a hunting dog.
It was also why no dogs were barking ever since Wang Kui and the other two men entered.
They would never dare to bark randomly with their trainers around.
“Just ahead!”
The old trainer pointed in front of them.
Even before Wang Kui had made it there, a dog’s snout had suddenly poked out from between the steel bars of one of the kennels, sniffing restlessly, “Yip… arf!”
It was the only outlier in the entire kennel that made a sound.
“Look, it misses you!”
The old trainer smiled and shook his head. “Though Officer Zhao here told me that you were a specialist, I was actually still worried before you arrived. Now, it does seem that you would have what it takes to keep it in line. By the way, have you ever served in the military before?”
“Two years of volunteered service at the Armed Police as an undergraduate…”
Wang Kui did not expect that the trainer could find out his trump card with just a single glance, and he was panicking a little.
Still, he was relieved after some thought.
Just as the Hunter card had granted him a sense of coarseness, the Armed Police card had more or less inserted a military man’s strength and loyalty in him.
Likewise, Wang Kui himself could tell that the trainer was once an inspector who had shot and killed criminals. For outsiders, however, his heightened hormone excretion rate would merely feel masculine.
In truth, that was the outcome of being constantly on edge and the high production of hormones.
With the observation of an inspector, coupled with subsequent constant interactions alongside animals, the man would naturally be very adept at observing limb movement and body language, and this made it easy to deduce Wang Kui’s military experience.
“And here I was saying that the kid is quite special. In the end, your eyes are better, Old Liu!”
Officer Zhao scratched his forehead and clapped his hands in realization.
He now liked the kid even more—competence, a sense of justice, military experience, as well as discipline!
If he was not worried about being a bad influence, he would even be clutching Wang Kui’s thigh and begging him not to leave!
[Whoa! You were in the military too, Old Kui? So cool!]
[You can tell from the streamer’s moves that he is practiced!]
[Most people would not have Sir Kui’s physique, would they? He pinned down the wolfdog with one leap!]
At the same time, Wang Kui had stepped up in front of the steel fence.
The wolfdog promptly froze and kept its head low, afraid of staring directly at him.
Old Liu had treated it well—he had applied medicine to the wolfdog’s left eye and front leg as well as had it bandaged. The wounds on its body were also wrapped with several loops of gauze, and it now appeared just like a mummy, something which entertained his audience.
[Will you use the Hunting Partner Ticket?]
Yes!
Wang Kui thought.
[Please select the address of the hunting dog and pet certification.]
Shenyang!
He picked his own house since the pet certificate could be used across the country, and entry to all regions was legal.
[You have unlocked the Hunting Partner function. You may check it at any time!]
Wang Kui did not study it thoroughly.
Old Liu had already taken out a bunch of keys and unlocked the kennel to let the wolfdog out.
“I was reluctant to let go of this wolfdog since it’s a rare and fine specimen… I like you, young man, and I hope you will treat it well in the future. I’ll give you a canine safety testimonial from our kennel later and provide a cage—one that you can use on buses or airplanes and make it past checkpoints!”
Then, the instant he took the wolfdog’s chain leash, perhaps because of a ritualistic sense, the System’s partner ticket, or for some other reason, Wang Kui suddenly found the dog much more good-looking and easier on the eyes.
“Thanks, Mister Liu. I’ll definitely take good care of it!”
[Congratulations on getting a pup, Old Kui!]
[Are you going to name it right now?]
[How does ‘Red Devil’ sound?]
[Why red devil? That sounds rife with an eighth-grader syndrome. Since Old Kui and the wolfdog became tied by fate through the butt, I think it should be named ‘Big Butt’!]
[Big Butt is awesome, lol!]
***
Then, because a certain someone had suggested Big Butt, everyone in the livestream channel started spamming the name. Even admins such as CE and Zaun Gotta Run actually gifted rockets to keep up the hype!
“No way, please leave some dignity for me!”
After saying goodbye to Old Liu and leaving the police kennels, Officer Zhao insisted on giving Wang Kui a ride to the bus station even though he tried to refuse.
Along the journey, however, his viewers rejected every name Wang Kui suggested including Blackie, Big Red, Poochie, and Lucky. At the same time, the ‘Big Butt’ spam never stopped.
“Fine, fine! I give, I give, alright?! Big Butt it is!”
Helpless, Wang Kui had to accept the ‘classic’ suggestion.
Turning to the wolfdog which remained expressionless in its cage, he tentatively called out, “Big Butt?”
“Arf… pant, pant…”
The wolfdog bared its teeth, poking out its tongue to lick its own nose and winked its one eye, almost as if it found the name acceptable.
“Why do I find that look of yours so vulgar? And why are you licking yourself when I say ‘butt’?”
