Chapter 19- Caught
Seeing that blank expression on her face, Zhou Ling frowned and looked pretty unpleasant. She spoke as if issuing her a command. “Doesn’t Grandma He like you a lot? Your sister is blocked outside their door, go say something to let her in.”
Wen Xi closed her eyes as she remembered her past life. During this time, Wen Qing had been trying her best to marry into the He House, but her intentions weren’t recipocrated. This ‘appointment’ might not be an actual one in the first place.
Before he engagement with the Nan family, Wen Xi was in Grandma He’s favor, who even arranged for a date between her and her grandson. Though, she rejected it that time, with He Yan not having a problem with it as well.
And so, right now Kexin wanted to use that favor so that Wen Xi could let her daughter get in.
Wen Xi looked composed as she finished changing her shoes. “I thought I’m engaged with the nan family. You think Grandma He will still like me?”
Zhou Ling grabbed her arm. “I told you to go, so go! It’s not like I’m telling you to die, is this so hard?”
She didn’t want to admit it, but even after Wen Xi got engaged with the Nan family, Grandma He still liked her a lot. She’d praised her a couple of times in front of other people, too.
But facts were facts- Wen Qing needed her help!
Wen Xi softly took away her hand, looking at her casually. “I’m busy.”
Kexin was panicking and rushed, but still didn’t dare to yell at her. She didn’t want to lose all of her effort beforehand, and so she held down her anger. “Xixi, just think of it of doing your mom a favor, would you? I’m begging you.”
Wen Xi’s eyes were still cold as before. “Grandma He, liking someone who doesn’t like his grandson? I won’t do something that’s unlikely to work.”
Zhou Ling’s face contorted in anger, and she ran upstairs to return with Wen Xi’s cello. “Qing is your sister, this is her lifelong happiness we’re talking about! You wouldn’t even help her with that? Listen now, if you don’t go I’ll break this cello right here!”
Wen Xi’s eyes narrowed, her hands curling into fists.
This cello was a prize she’d won in a certain music competition- it meant a lot to her, and she couldn’t just lose it.
“Are you going or not?!” Zhou Ling held up the cello in the air.
Wen Xi took a deep braeth, her eyes heavy. “I’ll go, but I can’t guarantee that Wen Qing will be able to get in.
“Hah, why would you go then if you can’t guarantee? I’ll wait here- if your siter gets in I’ll put it back in your room. If not, don’t think you’l see it again!”
Seeing that look on Zhou Ling’s face, Wen Xi’s eyes greew cold as her lips curled up. “As long as she gets in, right?”
Zhou Ling’s eyes calmed down as she saw Wen Xi cooperating. “Yes, as an elder, I’ll keep my end of the promise! Wen Qing’s your sister, too- how could you live with yourself if you didn’t help her lifelong happiness?”
“Of course I’ll help her, this is my sister after all- I’ll do anything I can for her, that’s what I’ve always done.” Wen Xi smiled as she put on her outside shoes again, walking out.
When she reached the house of the He family, she saw Wen Qing with her push-up bra and tight skirt, waiting under the street light to maintain her elegance as much as possible, despite the summer mosquitos. Seeing no one around her, she bent down and slapped the mosquito on her leg.
Wen Xi looked at the scene from her car, not rushing.
Ten minutes later, she got off.
“Xixi, you’re finally here- help me talk to the grandma for a bit, He Yan’s coming home tonight, and him and I will finally be able to meet. We must use this chance to let his elders give us their blessing!”
Wen Qing’s words had plenty of holes. Wen Xi, though, didn’t do anything about that. “Sis, I’ve already called her on the way- but she’s angry that I rejected his grandson last time, so she didn’t even pick up.”
Wen Qing frowned, and her eyes started reddening. “Why is my life… so hard.”
Wen Xi smiled. “Don’t worry, sis, I know an entrance to get you in- you just have to wait for Mister He there.”
Wen Qing beamed at that. “Bring me, hurry.”
A while later, Wen Xi opened a spot at the wall near the gate- it was a dog door.
Wen Qing’s face changed. “This…”
“Sis, this is your future happiness we’re tlaking about- there’s no time to think about it so much. We need to get you in first! Don’t worry, no cameras here.”
Wen Qing decided to go with it after thinking of her plan.
After she’d crawled over, she turned back to Wen Xi. “Go back first, it’s not safe out there. Don’t let He Yan see you.”
Wen Xi nodded with a smile, and couldn’t help to laugh a bit at her as she sneaked into the house.
The place that the dog door led to was where House He kept their dogs.
She patted her hands happily, and was about to go back when she bumped into someone with crystal clear eys.
The man was holding a german shepherd under the light, his tall body commanding a strong presence. He was looking at her with some interest.
