Chapter 2: Back to Nineteen

When Wen Xi woke up, she felt that her shoulder was injured, and looking around, she was in a misty forest, lying on a pile of bloody leaves.
As soon as she realized was injured, a sharp pain shot through her body; so painful she almost burst into tears.
As soon as the pain had subsided enough, she realized once more that she was not surrounded by the sea, but a scary forest.
Wen Xi remembered this forest. This
Just after she and Nan Xunchuan had gotten engaged, an admirer of Nan Xunchuan’s had hired somebody to kill her.
The forest was in a small town under the city of Wei Chuan, where an infectious disease with a mortality rate as high as eighty percent had broken out. Her kidnappers had left her in the forest to cover up her murder, as if she had dies of an infection.
She had tried to defend herself, but failed, and her shoulder had been injured in the process. She had been knocked out by her killers, and they brought her here.
But it had been four years – hadn’t she fallen into the sea with Wen Qing? How did she get here?
Coming back to her senses, she realized that it was that July, and she was nineteen again.
She was still in danger, however, so she stood up immediately. Her main priority was getting out of the forest.
In her previous life, she had been lost in the woods all day and night, only to find an exit when she was about to die. Fortunately, she was rescued by a villager passing by. This time, she knew which way to go, and all she had to do was walk straight to where the exit would be.
Wen Xi felt like her injury was more severe than it had been in her previous life, and she felt dizzy. She thought perhaps it was because she had just been reincarnated. Having studied medicine in her previous life, she knew that she was suffering from the side-effects of excessive blood loss.
She was afraid that the smell of her blood would attract wild animals if she didn’t get out as soon as possible. With that in mind, she sped up.
Suddenly, a voice called out, not too far behind her.
“Boss, she’s still alive!”
The killers were still there!
Trembling, Wen Xi quickened her pace. Could it be that things have changed because she had been reincarnated? She had woken up earlier this time, and the killers must not have left yet.
However, there was not enough time for Wen Xi to think this through completely. She had exhausted all of her energy trying to get out of the forest as quickly as she could. The wind howling in her ears alone was enough to scare her half to death.
Even if Wen Xi wanted to rest for even a moment, she urged herself on, to continue without stopping. Her open wounds, however, took a considerable toll on her physical strength.
Before she had exhausted her energy, she had finally reached another human being. She could only make out the vague contour of a tall, slender person because of the fog.
“Help … help!” Wen Xi called for help with dry lips.
The figure suddenly turned around and ran towards her. Her vision began to blur as they got closer and closer.
Before her eyes closed, she identified the man… He Yan!
Wen Xi thought that this had to be a dream, how could she run into He Yan otherwise? She did not meet him here last time.
So this was going to be her final dream before she drowned to her death in the sea, inspired by what Wen Qing had admitted to her earlier.
However, shortly after she could smell the familiar scent of antiseptic solution, something entirely unrelated to the sea. The smell tells Wen Xi that she is definitely somewhere else.
Opening her eyes slowly, she could see an old ceiling, with spider webs in the corners, like it hadn’t been cleaned in a long time.
“Ah, you’re awake!” Someone beside her said joyfully.
Wen Xi turned her head carefully to face them. Although they were dressed in a nurse’s uniform, the room hardly looked like a hospital room.
“Where am I?” The scene in front of her seemed like a dream. Wen Xi was at a loss.
The nurse explained gently, “Dr. He found you passed out in the forest. Fortunately, he saved you just in time, before your wound got an infection.”
