The sound of a sudden ringtone broke her concerntraion. She looked over to her computer where “Nan Yunchuan” appeared on the screen.
She looked away, acting as if she hadn’t see anything.
However, she didn’t expect for him to call again after two minutes. With a frown, she picked up her phone and got ready to decline.
It wasn’t Nan Yunchuan this time though, it was Jiang Ke.
Jiang Ke was one of her few close friends in medical college. She was passionate and loved taking photos with her camera. Though, like Wen Xi, she wasn’t able to pursue her dreams because of her family.
Upon seeing the name, the cold look on her face faded and became much more gentle.
“Ke.”
“Jaing! I’ve come back from Dubai, did you miss me? I’ve bought plenty of gifts for you this time, let’s meet tomorrow, I’ll give them to you!”
Wen Xi’s lips upturned into a small smile. “Sure.”
Ke married a foreigner after graduating from college, and it’d been a year since they’d last met. Now that she’d been reincarnated, she really did want to see her.
“Alright, tomorrow afternoon at two, alright? See ya.”
Wen Xi’s eyes lit up, as if she’d suddenly remembering something from her words.
She got up and took out the apology gift she’d gotten for He Yan. She frowned.
She couldn’t believe that she forgotten about it.
Counting that time at the concert, he’d saved her a total of three times. She couldn’t just not repay him. At this point, it seemed like she’d be indebted to him for the rest of her life.
She sighed a little at the thought.
Thinking about it, she took out all the items and put them in a bag, planning to give it to him at his house tomorrow.
With the memory of the awkwardness from the day before, she didn’t want to meet him alone just yet. Whilst giving it to the house’s servants to give to him might seem a bit rude, this was the only way she would accept.
With that she would be able to avoid having anything embarrassing happen again.
The next day Jiang Ke called Wen Xi outside with a phone call, just as she was practicing the cello.
She didn’t say anything in particular on the phone, only that she’d arrived at her house by car.
The summer was hot, and Wen Xi pulled her hair into a ponytail and chose to wear jeans with a short shirt, along with a pair of small white shoes. She put her backpack on and walked out the door.
Jiang Ke was leaning against the car door, in a pair of sunglasses sucking on a lollipop. Her short hair was sticking out at the ends, dyed in different colors of yellow, green, and purple. Not only did she look pretty, she looked modern, and full of energy.
Upon seeing Wen Xi, she spread both her arms wide to hug her. “My Little Dragon Girl, it’s been only half a summer, you’re even prettier now!”
Because of her temper, she’d been nicknamed ‘Little Dragon Girl’ by her classmates. It had been a long time since she’d been called that – it sounded warm; intimate.
Wen Xi smiled as she looked at her friend. “You’ve gotten skinnier.”
Her memory of Jiang Ke was of one year ago, back in her past life. She was much fatter than she was now.
Jiang Ke was very pleasantly surprised at the comment. “Yeah? It could be that I’m just too cute, even God wouldn’t let me get fat.”
With that, she smiled and noticed Wen Xi’s bag. “Hm? This is my gift, isn’t it! Let me see!”
Seeing her reach for the bag, Wen Xi couldn’t pull it back in time before she’d taken it away.
“Whoa! Xixi, isn’t this guy’s underwear? Did you buy it for Nan Yunchuan?”
Wen Xi didn’t explain too much, since she hadn’t called off the engagement yet. Before Yunchuan did anything, she had to hide what her intentions were, otherwise everything wouldn’t go according to plan.
It wasn’t that she didn’t trust Jiang Ke, but there were accidents waiting to happen everywhere. One of them was the possibility that there’d be people who would overhear.
Putting the stuff back in the bag, she got in the car. “Where are we going to have fun today?”
Jaing Ke got into the driver’s seat, excitedly.
“Today Doctor He is doing a talk at the city university, starting at ten-thirty. He’s not the type to accept these invitations easily, so it’s a rare chance! I got the tickets too, let’s go!”
