Wen Xi stopped midway as she was fastening her seatbelt. Jiang Ke’s words were still in her head.
She looked at the stuff inside the bag and sighed.
It seemed she was going to have to meet him after all.
Jiang Ke had always been He Yan’s fan, always raving about him since her past life. ALthough, it was also because she’d always talked about him that Wen Xi had a strong impression of him just from his name.
They thought that they’d left early enough for the talk, but they still got caught in traffic. Jiang Ke frustratedly checked the time again and again, her legs shaking impatiently.
“Man, why is it not moving yet, we’re about to be late!”
Wen Xi looked at the time, it was ten twenty-five.
Jiang Ke was getting quite pissed. “How is the traffic still this bad here! What is the president doing, that he can’t even solve something like this.”
Wen Xi knew that this was how her personality was, so she listened quietly without saying anything.
The talk wasn’t long, a mere one hour. Along with traffic and parking, and the time it took to run through the campus, it was already eleven thirty-five by time they reached their destination.
The heavens willed that they were going miss this talk, and they did. Completely.
Wen Xi had gotten out of the car with her bag of gifts. She followed behind Jaing Ke’s to the hall.
There were students of the capital university, and Wen Xi wiped her brow as she looked around, not interested in going any further when she saw the crowd.
“It’s Doctor He! Let’s go get a signature even if we missed the talk!”
With that, she squeezed her way into the crowd.
“Yo, excuse me, excuse me.”
Jiang Ke pulled Wen Xi along with her, and she couldn’t stop her before she’d found herself in the middle of the crowd.
The fans were too passionate, and the scene was chaotic. Subconsciously, Wen Xi raised her bag high to prevent it from getting squashed, but it got hooked onto someone’s hand, getting passed on from one hand to another. It was gone.
The gifts were still in there, and it’d look bad if they got squashed, so she squeezed her way forward.
It got more and more crowded, and every time she almost reached the bag, another one pushed it forward- Wen Xi had to keep pressing on.
Finally, the bag fell to the very front of the crowd, about to fall to the ground with a ‘plop’.
Wen Xi’s hand was able to reach it just in time, holding the bag securely. Before she could celebrate though, someone pushed her from behind, and she fell forward.
One second later, all the female students around her went silent; displeased.
Some people were murmering.
“What the? How shameless, jumping into his arms like that. Where are her manners?”
“Doctor He almost fell down because of her. What a woman.”
“Look at how tightly she’s holding him, Doctor He can’t even breathe, and she even hit his chin! What a violent woman!”
All the comments made Wen Xi want to crawl into a hole.
Feeling the warmth of a man, she quickly let go of his neck and apologized, red-faced. “I’m sorry, I didn’t mean it.”
She looked awfully guilty, her eyes were looking down, she couldn’t even look him in the eyes.
Her worries had come true. It was even more awkward now. She simply wasn’t fated to be with this man after all, with stuff like this happening all of the three times she’d met him in this life.
She didn’t hear anything from He Yan, only what he said to address the crowd. “Thank you all for your passion. It’s really hot, please go back and get some rest.”
Wen Xi realized that, no matter where they were or what situation they were in, he always kept a calm, elegant composure. It felt like he was someone who’d been through many experiences, many storms, despite the fact he was only three years older than her.
As the crowd dispersed, she saw him take out a card from the top of her hair. It must’ve belonged to a female student and fallen onto her head during the chaos.
“Thank you.” Her face burned. This was probably the thing she’d said the most to him.
“It was an accident, don’t worry about it.”
Wen Xi opened her mouth to speak, but frowned, frustrated. She didn’t know how to continue the conversation.
She decided to just go for it and hand him the present. “This is compensation for breaking your stuff back at Weihai town, please accept it.”
He didn’t accept it for a long time, and Wen Xi hesitantly raised her eyes, looking at that fresh, sunlit face of his. He had a light smile in his eyes.
“Is this why you came today?”
