When Wen Xi returned home, Wei Kexin happened to be going outside.
“Xixi, where have you been? Your father and I have been looking everywhere for you.”
“Me?”
“Yes, the Taoist master had a couple of questions to ask you, about the incident in Weihai.”
Wen Xi’s eyes narrowed. “Where are they now?”
“Still in the Taoist master’s room.” Kexin pointed in the direction of the room. “To be honest, I don’t really believe in this kind of stuff. Even if it was real, the gods can’t have that much free time to be thinking about these things. Your father’s too superstitious.”
“I’ll go take a look.”
With that, she walked away; right over to the hallway. She called out softly. “Taoist master, I’m Wen Xi, my mom said you’re looking for me?”
“Come in.”
Pushing the door open, Wen Xi saw her father and the Master sitting cross-legged. The Master pointed to another spot. “Sit down first.”
“Xixi, tell the Master the things you told me that day, all of it.” Wen Guosheng said.
Before coming here, Wen Xi had already anticipated this scenario. Before, lying in such a holy place would’ve caused her to panic, but right now, she felt quite calm.
She needed to believe in herself, just like He Yan.
With that, she spoke calmly. “I don’t remember word for word what I said, but what I meant was that there’s great misfortune in my fate. If I don’t take care of it, it’ll drag other people around me into it. I didn’t believe it at first, but I keep having nightmares recently, and I can’t fall asleep. I’ve come to the Master for help.”
The master nodded, still with a kind expression on his face. It was unreadable.
“Did he tell you the method as to how to break this?”
“Put things back to their original position- If I continue on the path I was meant to, it’ll be fine.”
The master nodded. “Alright, you may leave us first.”
Wen Xi left quietly.
Guosheng, on the other hand, was quite worried. “How is it, Master? What does it mean, what my daughter said? What do you mean by breaking?”
The master didn’t speak first but wrote a couple of Chinese characters on a piece of paper.
Wen Xi went to the yard to take a walk and wait for the news.
She had already made up her mind. No matter what happened, she had to transfer schools.
A little over ten minutes later, Guosheng walked out and said his goodbyes to the master.
On the way out from the temple, Kexin couldn’t help but ask. “Guosheng, what did the Master tell you?”
“Let’s talk about it when we get home.”
Wen Xi didn’t say anything. Judging from her dad’s tone, there was still something he didn’t understand. He had a frown on his face.
The group bumped into someone familiar on the way.
Wen Xi looked at that tall figure that was heading their way. She nodded to him in a greeting, not speaking.
Guosheng, though, had a smile on his face. “Ah, it’s Madam He.”
Madam He was about to get out of the car with He Yan’s help when she heard the voice. She turned her head to see who it was. She let out a ‘hmph’.
She didn’t seem too angry, judging by that. It seemed more like she was just wanting to let off some harmless steam.
“I was wondering who it could be. It was the family that thinks they’re too good for my grandson! Jinsheng, help me back in the car, my eyes are dirty already. I need to wash them.”
“Grandma.” He Yan smiled softly but seemed pretty helpless in the given situation. It was more like he was dealing with a child, rather than his grandma.
Seeing this, Kexin quickly smiled. “Madam He, you’re right, but the Wen House has never once looked down on the He family. In fact, we admire Mister He, my daughter Wen Qing is always talking about how great and kind he is. She’s kinder to him than she is to her own mother!”
As she spoke, she walked over to block Wen Xi from their view, putting her behind herself.
At that moment, Madam He’s eyes looked sharply at Kexin.
“Does that eldest daughter of yours like my Jinsheng?”
