After dinner, Wen Qing and Wei Kexin were taking a walk in the garden.
Kexin was still raging; mumbling to herself. “I really don’t know what your father is thinking, making such a ridiculous decision!”
“It’s too late now. We need to hurry and make Wen Xi herself want to go back on this decision.”
“That child liked acting in the first place; it won’t be easy.”
Wen Qing plucked a flower, her eyes clouded. “A little girl who hasn’t even gone out into the world. They can’t handle too much struggle in the beginning. I’ll make sure after a few days of pain she cries, to get out of it.
Kexin nodded and slowed her breathing. “Perhaps we don’t have to be so defensive. So what if Wen Xi starts studying at that school again? Whether she succeeds or not is another thing. The entertainment industry has plenty of pretty faces, just that alone isn’t enough.”
Wen Qing lips tugged, her eyes cold. “You’re wrong, mom.”
“Hm?”
Wen Qing’s smile was a cold one. “It’s not that I’m afraid she’d succeed, it’s…” She squeezed the flower in her hand. “She’s not worthy of having the same things I do.”
Seeing the cold look in her daughter’s eyes, Kexin felt slightly fearful of her.
She was afraid of her most of the time, it was just that she didn’t know when exactly it had started.
Perhaps it was when she got rotten eggs thrown at her by the neighbors, or perhaps it was when Wen Qing took a kitchen knife to her classmate’s house to threaten them.
She was pregnant before she married, so after getting pregnant she hid around. After giving birth to her daughter, people around them kept spoke horridly about them. Any time she’d gotten into a petty argument, they’d bring all of this up again to call her shameless.
Before the age of ten, Wen Qing had never received her father’s love. Not only did she have to protect her mom from the neighbors who hated her, but she had to suffer being bullied by other children as well.
One time, a bully had pranked her, calling her a black star, bringing bad luck everywhere she went. She ran home to get a kitchen knife and ran straight to his house to threaten him. Kexin was brought in by police and scolded for her ineptitude in educating her child.
After that, the bully had broken his leg for some reason, and after that, he fell for no reason, breaking his arm. His parents had no choice but to transfer him.
That night, Wen Qing was in an especially happy mood during dinner.
It was then that Kexin knew. Wen Qing had been responsible for those incidents, working in the shadows.
Because of her mistakes, Wen Qing was overflowing with darkness. All this time, it made her feel so much guilt.
Back then, she never thought about anything other than being the main Mrs. Wen. However, Wen Xi’s mother had too strong of a background, and it wasn’t something she could just dismiss. As such, she kept just a trace of that hatred in her heart.
But, many years later, one day, Wen Qing rushed in excitedly with a picture, putting it in front of her. “Mom! It turns out dad has been looking for us all this time in secret! He lives here right now, I’ve already found a way to get in, you just need to pretend to be a cleaner, and meet with dad!”
She wouldn’t dare back then, worried that the wife would be onto her.
In the end, Wen Qing ran directly to Guosheng’s room, begging him.
After that, she met with Guosheng once more; only realizing then that he never had any feelings for Wen Xi’s mom. It was a marriage for politics.
Soon, their old love was rekindled, and they kept in touch until Guosheng had gotten divorced.
That night, coming back from the Wen family, Wen Qing lay in her arms. “Mom, I want to have the things Wen Xi has, and I want to have the things she doesn’t have. She’s been a princess for nine years; it’s my turn now. I don’t like to see her laughing and smiling, I want her to cry. Every day. I want her to rely on me, and serve me willingly all her life.”
