Chapter 47: Who’s Spying From the Shadows?
During the night, Wen Xi was lying on her bed, tossing and turning, unable to sleep. She didn’t know if this was the right thing to do; if this would be able to destroy her enemy in one shot.
She had her suspicions as well. Was she being too extreme? Was she losing herself to hatred, becoming the type of manipulative woman that people hated?
Wasn’t she the same as Wen Qing, then?
Thinking about it, though, she was only doing this out of self-defense. The people she was up against were all people plotting against her and using her. She wasn’t wrong.
She simply couldn’t fall asleep, and so she turned the lights on and looked at the calendar.
The 28th was next Wednesday, and today was Friday already.
She took a red pen and circled the date. That day, she might have something coming to her. For example, people laughing at her.
She would become the topic of everyone’s interest in the upper society circle, as the one whose husband went behind her back for another girl.
Putting the pen down, she shook her head, putting those thoughts away and taking it out on her cello. She put on her shirt and went to the music room.
The room was soundproof, and there was some distance between the rooms too. She wasn’t worried she’d wake her dad up.
Her mother was a vocal expert, and because of hearing her sing all the time when she was young, she had a certain grasp over musical instruments and singing.
This cello was something she won in a competition, something she really treasured. She even gave it a name: Unleaving.
She wished that it would stay with her forever.
To her, this cello gave her a sense of safety and confidence.
The elegant sound of the cello vibrated throughout the room as she played the strings, playing in an almost mesmerizing dance.
Her mood calmed down in the music, all her frustrations being pushed away.
Suddenly, as if something outside got kicked, a cry of pain came out.
Wen Xi stopped immediately, and a dead silence invaded the room.
She looked at the only open window of the music room. It was the window facing the outer wall of the house, she’d forgotten to close it shut.
“Who’s there?”
Her alertness rose as she carefully put down the cello, grabbing a stool and walking over to look outside.
It was empty, and there was no sign even by the window.
But she did see a broken vase.
It had fallen onto the ground, the dirt spilled out on the floor. Even the bigger vase beside it had its leaves shaken off.
It seemed like someone had been spying on her, but who could it have been?
Wen Qing was still overseas in a movie shoot, it couldn’t be her.
Muyun?
Or could it be that Muyun had sent for another killer after being angered?
Wen Xi felt her back grow cold. She looked back quickly-
But there was no one there.
She looked for two more minutes, but the place was silent. Only the moon was there.
Her eye caught something small as she looked around, though, something she couldn’t have seen without focusing.
Wen Xi picked it up; it was a white button from a dress shirt.
She stared at the broken twigs. It must be from the stalker.
Unfortunately, this place wasn’t included in where the surveillance cameras captured, so she had no way of knowing.
The biggest possibility was Muyun, though. She really couldn’t imagine anyone else.
Taking the button and the cello, she rushed back to her room and locked everything.
Right then, outside the walls of the house, a tall figure stood up, staring at the villa for quite a while before leaving.
