Chapter 53: If the Dress Doesn’t Fit You, There’s No Need to Wear It
He Yan paused, putting the magazine down suddenly and clasped his hands together, his left pointer finger tapping the one on his right. His eyes were downcast, as if in thought.
He looked up suddenly. “You like the entertainment industry?”
Wen Xi gave a nice smile. “I just like to perform.”
His gaze seemed to soften a bit as he nodded, unconsciously bringing the empty cup on the table to his mouth before realizing there was no water in it. Plus, it was the cup Wen Xi had just drunk from.
The place his lips touched was the place Wen Xi’s had touched as well. It even had a faint red lipstick mark on it.
Wen Xi didn’t know what he was thinking, to lose focus like that. Feeling a little awkward, she looked around and decided to stand up. “My grandparents should be back soon, I’ll be going. Thank you for the water, Mr. He.”
With that, she turned and left, forgetting to lift her dress with her big strides. She stomped on it accidentally, and slid sideways and fell.
He Yan reacted quickly as usual, though, catching her before she hit the ground.
The instant she grabbed onto his shoulder, it sent a shock through her arm.
In that moment she wasn’t afraid of falling to the floor, but falling onto the man. If that were to happen, she’d have to dig a hole and hide in it.
She took initiative and let go on her own, nodding to him. “Thanks.”
“If the dress doesn’t fit you, there’s no need to wear it anymore.”
With that, he raised his arm all of a sudden, gesturing for her to hold on. “I’ll walk you out.”
Wen Xi froze. “No no no, no need, I’ll pull the dress up.”
He Yan looked at the long dress sweeping on the ground. “You sure?”
“I came over alone just now just fine, right? I’ll make do. Bye, then.”
Now she was really going to leave. She didn’t care about being elegant or whatever anymore, she just picked up a huge mound of her dress, showing off some of her lower legs before walking off.
She kept her back straight as if telling him to look at how well she could walk.
He Yan couldn’t help but smile.
He watched her to the door before returning to the living room.
Picking up the empty cup, he remembered how he’d zoned out before and smiled helplessly.
By the time Wen Xi was back at her front door, her face was burning red.
She took a few deep breaths and looked back to the neighboring villa. Not for too long, though, worried that He Yan would suddenly appear at the balcony or something.
At that moment, a car came driving over, and the gate to her house opened as well.
The car stopped, and a worried grandma poked out. “Xixi, so you were here! You worried me sick!”
Wen Xi put her tongue out. “Sorry, Grandma. I should’ve told you, I was just afraid dad and the rest would follow.”
Remembering what happened, Grandma Wen sighed. “Let’s go in first.”
After a few minutes, Wen Xi had already changed her clothes and was sitting in the living room, playing with her grandpa’s checkers.
Her grandparents looked at each other as they sat beside her. “Xixi, do you really plan on leaving this marriage?”
Wen Xi looked calm as she ate some cake and played with the checkers. “Yeah, why would I want a man like that? I don’t want to raise a bunch of children from some other woman.”
“Oh, right.” Wen Xi raised her head and smiled. “I’ll live here for a while, I’ll stay with you guys, Grandma and Grandpa!”
Grandma and Grandpa looked at each other, sighing
