Chapter 56: There’s a Doctor Next Door Who Can Help
He Yan was playing on the chessboard inside the pavilion when he heard a knock at the gate. It was pretty loud, and the person was probably in a rush.
He got up and walked over, hearing a girl calling his name.
“Doctor He! Are you here, Doctor He?”
He Yan opened the door. “I’m here.”
“Come with me first!”
Wen Xi didn’t have time to explain, and he was pulled to her house running.
He Yan didn’t have much of a choice other than following her up to the second floor, into her room.
“Ah, isn’t this the young master of the He family?” Grandpa Wen couldn’t hide in his surprise.
Wen Xi pushed He Yan forward. “Grandpa, this is a proper famous doctor who’s won a bunch of awards. You can believe him, right?”
He Yan was a bit taken aback by the sudden praise. He frowned, turning his eyes from her soft face, dotted with beads of sweat to the old man on the bed.
But just as his eyes moved, he caught a trace of the red bite mark on her snow-white shoulder; his eyes locked on to it.
The man’s eyes darkened substantially.
Suddenly feeling his gaze, Wen Xi pulled her shirt back up a bit awkwardly before pointing to the bed. “Help me look at my grandma first.”
He Yan didn’t say anything, only standing there.
Wen Xi pulled at her lips and looked up, her crystal eyes almost begging him. “Please.”
He took his eyes away and went to check on Grandma Wen.
Without the help of equipment, he had to use his hands and other senses.
A moment later, he concluded. “It’s not anything big, I’ll get some medicine from my place and give her more later.”
With that, Grandma Wen started regaining consciousness, her eyes moved around and landed on Wen Xi. “Xixi…My Xixi… How could that bastard bite you… I… I’ll break his legs!”
“Grandma, you just woke up, don’t get worked up! The doctor is here, don’t make him give you an injection!” Wen Xi said as if talking to a child.
Grandma Wen’s eyes widened as she saw He Yan, surprised. “You’re the one from the He family…”
“He Jinsheng.” He Yan smiled lightly, eyes full of softness.
“Right right, I remember, you came over when you were small, you were still called Jinsheng back then until you grow up. Look at you! You haven’t been back to this house in so long we thought you’d sold the place!”
He Yan still had a small smile on his lips, but he didn’t say anything.
Grandma Wen sighed. “Back then we’d heard of a lot about your good deeds, your amazing history. Anything you do, you ace it. Good, good.”
As the old woman talked, she looked He Yan up and down, finding him quite pleasant. She even nodded to herself.
Clearing his throat, Grandpa Wen spoke up. “Old woman, have some dignity!”
Grandma Wen glared back before turning back to He Yan. “Right, my granddaughter is hurt, could you give her a look?”
He Yan turned around to look at her, his eyes were deep. “Of course.”
Wen Xi touched her nose, avoiding eye contact. She felt like He Yan was somewhat blaming her, like a father scolding his daughter who’d hurt herself tripping while playing.
“Come over to my place, we’ll get your grandma some medicine too.”
