Chapter 57: Anger
“Alright.” Wen Xi nodded.
When He Yan had left, she didn’t rush after him right away. She pulled her grandpa over. “Grandpa, did he come to our house play when he was young? How come I don’t remember?”
If that had been the case and she’d forgotten about it, it would’ve been pretty bad on her part.
Remembering all the things he’d helped her with, it was probably because of the fact they used to be friends when they were young. And still, she kept asking why he’d help her.
The most awkward part was how suspicious she was of his kindness.
Her grandpa laughed lowly. “It’s normal for you to not remember, you were living mostly at your dad’s place and came over once in a while. When the kid from the He House came over to play he was only seven, and you were four. How would you remember? His parents moved away not long after, and that was that.”
So that’s what happened. Wen Xi nodded, deep in thought.
Grandma spoke up as well. “Yeah, I quite liked him too. See, if you had been meeting with him last year…”
“I’ll be going first.” Wen Xi said and quickly ran out.
She saw He Yan waiting for her in the yard, and slowed her pace.
He Yan continued walking after hearing her footsteps come up behind him.
Wen Xi quietly followed, not daring to walk shoulder to shoulder. She tried to stay behind him.
She didn’t know why, but she felt safer this way.
Two minutes later, under the white light of the living room, He Yan was taking things out from a medicinal cabinet, and Wen Xi was sitting beside him, watching him.
She turned to look at her shoulder, there was a clear bite mark. She didn’t want He Yan to help with this wound though, it was pretty embarrassing.
If she saw something like this on another person, she’d be thinking something crazy.
“Pull your shirt down a bit lower.” He Yan said as he got some cotton buds and medicinal alcohol.
Right now he was no longer He Yan. He was serious; Doctor He.
Wen Xi pulled her shirt down for him.
He Yan used the cotton bud to clean the wound, the frown on his face growing stronger.
“If you don’t treasure yourself more, you might as well cut the shoulder off.”
Wen Xi froze, not expecting a scolding.
She suffered an injury to her shoulder not too long ago, and all of a sudden another wound was there, after all.
She bit her lip, nodding.
The man didn’t say anything but kept applying medicine.
She got more nervous as she smelled his aroma, unable to keep still. She unconsciously turned to the side.
“Don’t move.” The man said quickly, holding her other shoulder.
Wen Xi turned her head back, and her nose rubbed across the side of his face. The hairs on the back of her neck stood up.
Just a bit more and they would’ve kissed!
She gulped, her body going tense and inching backward.
He Yan didn’t seem to notice these small movements of hers. He kept his attention on the wound.
A while later, he took care of the wound and put the tools back in the cabinet.
“Next time something like this happens, learn some self-defense.”
Wen Xi took a deep breath as he moved away from her, though that made her stutter.
He was probably talking about Yunchuan biting him.
“The opponent was a man, a man stronger than me no matter what.” She said.
“Then get another man to protect you.”
He looked at her, not joking whatsoever.
His voice was calm, but his words weren’t. Wen Xi decided that he was angry.
