LFTMPH Chapter 37-A Beauty In The Tomb Part 1
Translated by Snowfall77
Before Xia Ge could make any more excuses, glaring golden light burst from an array on the floor, and two ginormous three-headed puppet beasts materialized out nowhere, one on either side of the formation!
Not certain whether the puppet beasts had teleported thanks to the array or something else, Xia Ge breathlessly clutched her sickle: “Shit, is the ancestor really this narrow-minded? I can’t afford to pay it back!
System: [Oh Do Shut The Fuck Up, You.]
Each puppet beast had three heads and four hooves. Their eyes were like carved black stone, and their expressions fiercely sinister, with mouths full of metal teeth. What material their body was made of wasn’t easily discernable, but it was certainly unappealing, adding to the beasts’ gruesome appearance.
Roar——-
After scratching the ground with its front right hoof, the puppet beast to the right reared up on its hind legs, then launched itself towards Xia Ge! Its movement sounded like thunder and it was as swift as lightening!
Xia Ge glanced at the array, making sure it was what she thought it was, and used {ghost and shadow} to nimbly dodge the incoming puppet beast. As its target flashed out of the puppet beast’s line of sight, it ended up pouncing on empty air. While Xia Ge, now behind it, gave a backhanded slash at its heads with her sickle—-
“You’ve got so many heads, how about I cut one off to use as a kickball?”
Roar——Aooo——-
Yet the puppet beast’s reactions were not slow, and its three heads were not useless decorations. Flicking its tail, it detected Xia Ge’s position and turned its rightmost head around. It glared straight at Xia Ge and the sickle coming for its head! Black stone orbs turned red instantaneously! At the same time, its mouth gaped open, a blazing column of red-hot fire shooting out towards Xia Ge! Meanwhile, the other puppet beast also made its move. It didn’t attack Xia Ge, instead it blocked Xia Ge’s retreat with a single bound!
Clang!
Lips curling at one corner, Xia Ge shifted her sickle’s momentum. The top end of the handle that connected to the sickle blade abruptly detached, chains clinked, and Xia Ge turned her weapon into a fan. Violently spinning, the blade tried to block the puppet beast’s eruption of fire. But, not able to gain more control while in midair, Xia Ge’s body still flew back and up, like a kite with a broken string, about to collide with the wall, next to the stone path at the chamber’s other end——
Whoosh—–
The flames were getting weaker, but Xia Ge’s hand ached. Drawing the sickle back and putting the end section of the handle behind her, it hit the wall a second before her body could. With the help of {ghost and shadow}, Xia Ge rotated in midair, then landed on her feet. The next instant, as both puppet beasts charged towards her, jaws snapping, Xia Ge slammed the sickle into the ground, cutting one of the dazzling golden array lines in two!
The puppets beasts froze for a second…
“Hehehe, goodbye!”
Objective accomplished, Xia Ge raced down the stone passage, going further into the tomb.
She’d guessed the puppet beasts were tied to the activated array. At least the old ancestor of Lingxi hadn’t materialized out of nowhere to settle accounts herself.
Xia Ge had paid attention to arrays before now. In the later sections of the novel, the male protagonist encountered arrays a lot, and Xia Ge, the reader, had learned that fighting drawn-out battles against such things was not advisable. The puppet beasts she’d just encountered were attached to an array, which meant they were also dependent on the array. The array gathered lingqi and in turn give the puppets motivation and force. So long as the array wasn’t broken, the puppets’ power would grow stronger and stronger.
The stele Xia Ge had accidently cut in half must have triggered the array. However, there was likely there were two ways to open the array. One was touching an array line, and the other, touching the stele. Once the array was opened, there’d be no way to close it. But, thankfully, there was a simple method to contain it.
Destroy a line of the array, so that it would no longer be able to gather lingqi. Without the array feeding them strength, the puppets would eventually stop when their own lingqi ran out.
Roar——
Behind her the three-headed puppet beasts angrily howled, both trying to rush down the stone passage at the same time. Their bodies were too immense though, and they got themselves stuck just a couple steps from the entrance. Unable to give chase, they made a fierce clamor, spewing intense columns of fire at a wildly running away Xia Ge.
Roar——
With an overwhelming stream of red-hot flames coming at her, Xia Ge’s {ghost and shadow} was almost at its limit. Sickle over her shoulder, backside on fire, she started wailing——
“Ah, ah, ah, oh god, oh god, ah, ah, ah, great ancestor, your faithful 556th generation Danfeng No. 88 outer disciple Xia Wuyin has come to burn paper offerings for you, ah, ah, ah, ah————”
System: [……] Burn paper offerings, my ass!
Fortunately, Xia Ge finally managed to safely get out of range of the flames, the passage twisting this way and that. Though the dangerous heat had subsided, Xia Ge could still hear the puppet beasts’ bellows and growls. Panting, Xia Ge slowed her pace until she came to a halt.
“Phew……ugh……worn out, I’m about ready to die.”
Xia Ge threw her sickle aside, then leaned against the wall and tried to catch her breath. Eventually she just slid down to sit on the ground: “Fuck me……this stone passage is really long.”
She hadn’t used {ghost and shadow} that many times, but every time she did use it, she pushed it to the limit. And the end result was always her feeling like she’d just run 2 thousand meters under a scorching sun for PE class.
As she gradually recuperated, Xia Ge eyed her surroundings.
“Truly……deadly.”
The stone passage was just like the previous one, with a night pearl about every three paces lighting the way. The only thing different was that there were no murals on the walls, just a painted array Xia Ge didn’t understand, situated between two night pearls.
Xia Ge gathered her sickle back into her arms, feeling cautious again. Just because there didn’t seem to be any immediate danger, that didn’t mean something nasty wouldn’t pop up out of nowhere.
tn-I think I posted this before, but here it is again anyways
