Chapter 29: Fated
Blackie: “What about the commission—are you still saving it with me like before?”
Qu Ling’er replied: “No need. I’m of legal age now. You can transfer it to me when you find the time.”
Blackie said: “Oh my god, congratulations! You’re finally an adult! Hurry up and send me your account number. I’ll transfer it to you later!”
Qu Ling’er said: “I haven’t applied for the card yet. It’ll be done in a few days.”
Blackie: “…”
He felt that he had been tricked and said angrily: “Are you kidding me? You told me two years ago that you’re an adult. You have more than a million in my hands—are you really not afraid that I’ll pocket it? Little brother, you mustn’t trust others so easily…”
“Qu Ling’er: “…”
Blackie had always thought that she was male—so he called her ‘little brother’—and she did not correct him. The two of them met on an online forum two years ago; they would later form a team to make money through missions.
Qu Ling’er: “Tell me the mission in detail. Let’s get to work!”
When Blackie heard this, he stopped chatting and promptly sent the mission details.
They completed the mission two hours later. Blackie would finish up and take care of the payment collection.
Old Leopard sent a WeChat message to Qu Ling’er: “Little Z, what have you been up to these few days? Why aren’t you online? Are you free tonight? Play games?”
Qu Ling’er thought for a moment—since there was nothing much to do—she replied: “Okay, 7 p.m. tonight.”
Seeing that it was almost time, Qu Ling’er went online. Old Leopard immediately recruited her to the team.
“Yue Yue’s got something on and won’t be joining us today. We’ll match up with a teammate randomly later,” Old Leopard said.
There were usually five of them. With Qu Ling’er in the team—they were invincible—it did not matter who they matched up with.
At 7 p.m. sharp, they randomly matched up with a teammate and began to play games. They were playing the most popular competitive game now, “Guardian Glory”. In each round of game lasting half an hour, two teams would battle against each other to win by obtaining the higher score.
Qu Ling’er had been scoring since the start of the game—going by this trend, winning was not a problem at all. Who knew…
“F*ck! Mage, why are you throwing?” Old Leopard said dejectedly to the teammate they had matched up with randomly. “It’s so difficult for us to gain points. Don’t keep throwing!”
As soon as Old Leopard said that, the new teammate threw the game again.
Old Leopard: “…” He was so angry beyond words.
“Argh! Save me, I’m going to die! Little Z, save me!” Old Leopard was exasperated by the new teammate’s throwing.
Qu Ling’er arrived at the critical moment—turned on the microphone—and said, “Everyone, calm down.”
“Wow, Little Z’s voice is still so nice!”
“Has Little Z received the acceptance letter? Can she finally play games to her heart’s content now?”
When the other two teammates heard Qu Ling’er’s words, they started chatting.
Aware of Qu Ling’er’s situation, Old Leopard said, “Forget it. She’s been under a lot of pressure recently. You guys won’t understand.”
Qu Ling’er did not want to continue this topic and quickly said, “The two of you guard the tower. I’ll go destroy theirs.”
Qu Ling’er was about to go to the enemy camp to gain points when she realized that her new teammate was following her closely.
Qu Ling’er: “???” Why was this person following her? She glanced at this person’s nickname. Ling Chen? This name was so strange.
On the other end, Luo Yichen—who was playing the game on his cell phone in the hotel room—was astounded. He managed to meet the lass even though it was a random match up. They were really fated!
Luo Yichen followed behind Qu Ling’er and experienced winning in a breeze—this lass was really good at e-sports!
“Mage, stop following Little Z!” Old Leopard was very displeased when he saw Luo Yichen following her like a shadow.
Luo Yichen ignored him completely and continued following behind Qu Ling’er. He usually threw the game but today—by following behind Qu Ling’er—he did not have to throw. It was indeed different when there was someone shielding him.
Seeing that Luo Yichen was still marching to the beat of his own drum, Old Leopard sent a private message to Qu Ling’er: “We’ll kick this guy out after this round and don’t play with him.”
However, Old Leopard sent the message to Luo Yichen instead. Luo Yichen raised his brows—he wanted him to leave when the lass was here? Impossible!
Luo Yichen ignored Old Leopard’s message. Old Leopard did not realize that he had sent the message to the wrong person and sent another message: “Little Z, why didn’t you reply to my message?”
“You’re the captain. Just kick him out at the end of this round. Don’t be shy.”
“If you really can’t do it, disband the team first. Then I’ll recruit you again.”
Luo Yichen could not take it anymore. He sent a message to the team channel: “Can you please ensure you have the correct person before sending a private message?”
Old Leopard thought: “F*ck!” Only then did he realize that he had sent the message to the wrong person—he cringed with embarrassment and wanted to crawl into a hole.
