Chapter 37: Chance Encounter with Qu Xinru
Xia Tian and Qu Ling’er had been deskmates for more than a year. She realized that although Qu Ling’er scored above average in every exam, Qu Ling’er could explain any problem in any subject to her. Eventually, Xia Tian understood—Qu Ling’er did not want to score too well in her examinations because she did not want to attract the attention of the Qu family.
“Aren’t we here to shop? Why are you suddenly talking about studies?” Jiang Wei was a little impatient. She pointed at a shop not far away and said, “Let’s take a look at this shop. I bought clothes from there before—their collection is not bad.”
“Let’s go and take a look.” Xia Tian immediately pulled Qu Ling’er into the shop.
After entering the shop—other than Qu Ling’er—the other three began to browse the clothes seriously. Whenever they saw something they liked, they immediately went to try it on in the fitting room.
Qu Ling’er sat on the sofa and waited—she was not interested in shopping. It was not that she did not like to buy clothes, but she did not think it was necessary—who was she wearing such beautiful clothes for?
Xia Xia walked out of the fitting room after trying on a light yellow dress. She walked in front of Qu Ling’er and asked, “Does it look good?”
Qu Ling’er took a good look and said, “Yes.”
Qu Xinru passed by and immediately saw Qu Ling’er sitting in the shop through the glass window of the shop. She was stunned for a moment before walking towards the shop.
Qu Ling’er did not expect to meet Qu Xinru here. She ignored her completely and continued to talk to Xia Tian who picked another piece of clothing and went to try it on again.
Qu Xinru deliberately said loudly to the two sidekicks behind her, “You can choose a piece of clothing each. My treat.”
“Really? Xinru, you’re the best!”
“Xinru, I love you so much. You’re so beautiful and kind!”
The two sidekicks spared no effort in praising Qu Xinru. Qu Xinru’s mood was much better and she started to walk around the shop. She walked to Qu Ling’er’s side with great pretension and said sarcastically, “Some people are only worthy of accompanying others to buy clothes.”
Qu Ling’er played with her cell phone and did not seem to hear her at all.
Qu Xinru saw that she was ignored—and she thought of how Qu Ling’er had cut ties with the Qu family so decisively—she became even angrier. She walked up to Qu Ling’er and said superciliously, “Hey! Qu Ling’er—no matter what—I am still your elder sister. Don’t you even greet me when you see me?”
Qu Ling’er looked up at Qu Xinru. “I have nothing more to do with the Qu family.”
Qu Xinru gave her a stink-eye and said, “You think just because you say so, you really have nothing to do with the Qu family? You still have the blood of the Qu family in your veins, so you’re the daughter of the Qu family. Do you really think that you can cut off ties by returning the money to my mother? Moreover, Qu Ling’er, I’m really curious—where did you get so much money? You didn’t spend a single cent in the past few years you’ve been in the Qu family? Or… have you already found a sugar daddy? The boy Dad and I saw last time—is he even 18 years old?”
Qu Ling’er looked at Qu Xinru who had changed into a different person. She had been putting on an act in the Qu family in the past—she was no longer pretending now—and revealed her true colors.
Qu Xinru’s two sidekicks had finished browsing the shop. They walked over to Qu Xinru—one on each side—in support of Qu Xinru.
Qu Ling’er glanced at the two girls and realized that one of them was Old Leopard’s friend who had attended her birthday party. No wonder Qu Xinru knew where she was—someone had tipped her off.
“Xinru, I think she must have been kept by someone. Otherwise, where would she get so much money? Hmm… she must really have found a sugar daddy—she coughed up more than a hundred thousand just like that. Seriously…”
“That’s right. Don’t be fooled by her seemingly innocent dressing. Who knows what she’s up to behind closed doors?”
“Who are you?!” Xia Tian had just come out of the fitting room when she saw the three of them surrounding Qu Ling’er and saying such nasty words. She was furious—rushed over—and placed herself protectively in front of Qu Ling’er. She glared at them and said, “You’re sick! You have dirty minds that taint everything. You’re sick in the head!”
“How dare you scold me!” One of the sidekicks—the fatter of the two— glared at Xia Xia and cursed, “Don’t f*cking meddle in other people’s business. Did we talk to you?”
When the shop assistants saw that they were about to fight, they quickly came over. But before they could speak, they were stopped by Qu Xinru. “Stand aside. I’ll pay for any losses in the shop!”
The shop assistants were speechless. Since they would be compensated for the losses, they retreated to the side in silence.
Not taking it lying down, Xia Tian said to the fat girl, “Yeah, I’m scolding you! So what? Who asked you to come and provoke us?”
