Chapter 18: A Genius of Arts and Science

That night, Boris and Molly called Nina into the small living room.
There were only three people in the room.
Nina was wearing a black alphabet T-shirt tonight. The T-shirt was a little loose, slipping off her right shoulder and revealing half of her delicate collarbone. A pair of jeans covered her long legs, which showed off how long, toned, and beautiful they were.
She leaned against the armchair, half-nestled in it, and turned her head to stare at Boris.
Boris didn’t know why, but he felt a rare sense of unease when he faced this young girl’s gaze.
Perhaps it was because the latter was Molly’s daughter, so he constantly wanted to present himself better when managing this sudden family relationship.
This was what Boris believed.
He cleared his throat. “Here’s the thing. School starts in two days. I intend to send you to LG University in Cambridge tomorrow. It’s one of the best schools in Boston.”
Molly smiled and added, “Yes, darling. The principal has agreed to let you attend an interview because Boris invested in the school. This is a rare opportunity. You must perform well tomorrow.”
Boris smiled warmly. “Cathy’s at that school, too. She’ll take good care of you for us if you enroll in the school successfully.”
“Can I come back every weekend?” asked Nina.
“Of course!”
“Oh! Of course!”
Molly and Boris chorused as if they were afraid that Nina had misunderstood something.
“This is your home. You’re welcome to come back anytime,” said Boris.
Molly got up, a look of tender love on her face, and squeezed into Nina’s armchair. She gently hugged her daughter and said, “Darling, I hope you understand that we’re not trying to chase you away. I also hope to spend more time with you, but I hope that you can have a normal life. Isn’t this what you want too?”
Nina nodded. Even though she had returned home because of her mother, she knew she couldn’t stay home all day.
Going to school was an essential step in returning to normal life.
“Alright, I’ll follow your arrangements.” Nina nodded.
Boris and Molly exchanged looks, both appearing touched and affectionate.
Only God knew how cruel it was to separate Nina, a poor child who had just experienced the warmth of a family, from her mother immediately and send her to an unfamiliar metropolis to study alone.
Of course, that was under the assumption that Nina could successfully pass the interview.
They hoped that Nina would get used to life there.
After chatting with Molly for a while longer, Nina noticed that it was already late and suggested returning to their rooms to rest.
“I didn’t expect to go back so soon.”
Nina stared at Green Wolf for a long moment back in her room. She pulled out the old-fashioned phone and made a call.
The next morning…
Boris hurried to the port after breakfast. He had been quite busy over the past two days because of the changes in his business.
Claude drove Cathy and Nina to school.
He was careful with his words. “Although the Miltons have invested some money in the construction of the Science and Technology Museum in LG University, the interviews are stricter because it’s a prestigious university.
“I saw that your results in the past years were average, but fortunately, they weren’t too bad. Just be more confident during the interview. You should have a chance.”
Cathy glanced back at Nina with a smile on her lips. She knew that Boris had arranged interviews at two universities for Nina today because everyone knew that the chances of enrolling into LG were too low.
Nina propped an elbow on the window and rested her chin on her palm. Composed, she gazed out the window at the bustling crowd and traffic.
This was a city rich in history, but it was very prosperous.
The car drove into the university.
Cathy alighted from the car and returned to her dormitory first, while Claude was tasked to accompany Nina for her interview.
Photo frames accompanied by individual introductions hung across the entire wall in the hall on the first floor of the main building.
Claude explained, “This is the Honor Board. It’s filled with LG University graduates who have made great contributions to various industries in the society and some talented students.”
Nina approached a photo frame and focused on the words below it.
This photo frame was very special as it was the only one without a photo.
Only the introduction was written.
The name on it was—Catherine Galliano!
