Chapter 40: This Is Not The World I Want to Protect!
“Austin?”
Magisters had sharp ears. Hika was delighted to hear the conversation at the entrance.
Then, with a straight face, Hika snorted and muttered, “How dare he’s late for so long? I’ll teach him a lesson!”
Hika stormed toward the restaurant entrance.
Austin’s eyes lit up when he saw Hika in her evening gown adorned with a diamond necklace around her fair neck. He immediately waved and said, “Hika, I’m here.”
The waiter who stopped Austin was shocked.
He did not expect that Austin was really looking for Hika.
The man who had a date with Hika was this man in a cheap white suit.
“Austin!”
Hika stormed over.
She wanted to reprimand him, but she couldn’t help but burst into laughter when she saw that Austin’s white suit was too tight for his well-built body.
“Where did you get such an ill-fitting suit?”
Austin laughed out loud and rubbed the back of his head. “That’s the only suit at home,” he said. “I wore it to my sister’s graduation ceremony.
“So it’s a little small now.”
“If you move a little more, your suit will rip out.”
After Hika laughed, most of the anger dissipated.
She glared at the waiter coldly and said, “What are you doing here?”
The waiter came back to his senses and gave way immediately.
Austin smiled and said, “It’s fine. He’s just a waiter. Why would I bother with a waitress?”
The waiter, who had looked down on Austin, felt his mind explode.
His face turned ashen as he was deeply affected.
Indeed.
What gave him the right to look down on others?
He was only a waiter, after all.
Even if he worked in a high-end restaurant, he was still a waiter. He had not become a celebrity, nor was he superior to others.
“Let’s go.”
Hika took Austin’s arm naturally and walked together into the fancy restaurant.
The rich heirs who were rejected by Hika before were even more stunned.
Their eyeballs almost popped out of their sockets.
The iceberg beauty who had never come close to any man was holding onto this man’s arm.
What happened tonight would definitely make the headlines of the news in Faye City the next day!
“Who is this kid? Why haven’t I heard of him before?”
“Perhaps he’s the son of an important figure from another base city?”
“I don’t know. From the way he’s dressed, he looks a little shabby. He doesn’t look to have a noble background.”
These elites had something to do again.
They were bored and began to guess Austin’s identity.
What was Austin’s relationship with the iceberg beauty, Hika?
“He’s muscular. So it turns out Hika likes men like him.”
“Tsk, tsk. If I’d known Hika liked guys like that, I would have gone to the gym.”
“We’ll see first. Why do I have a feeling that Hika is throwing herself at him?”
The rich second-generation heirs who got rejected by Hika before were jealous.
Hika took Austin to the table by the window and sat down.
The waiter brought the gold-plated leather menu and handed it to Hika.
He opened the first page of the leather menu. Every word of the menu was engraved with silver wire, flaunting its extravagance.
Hika ordered a few dishes and handed the menu to Austin.
Austin glanced at the menu.
The text was not in the country’s language but the universal language of the world. It was incomprehensible to Austin.
After the apocalypse, commoners no longer learn the universal language since it was too fancy and impractical.
“The same as Hika, please.”
Austin handed the menu back to the waiter.
“Alright, please wait a moment. The chef is preparing at the moment.”
The waiter turned around and left.
Austin turned his head toward the windows reflecting the busy light and shadows, and beyond the glass, the dark ruins in the distance.
“So this is the scenic restaurant that LiBoli is famed for?”
With the hotel’s height, the view of the hunting area was breathtaking.
Hika took a small sip of her orange juice. “How’s it going?” she asked.
Austin just shook his head.
“Behind the vermilion gates, meat and wine go to waste. While out on the road lie the bones of the frozen.
“The sense of horror and danger in the apocalypse has faded among the descendants of the rich.”
“They stay in their cages like canaries, enjoying the view outside.”
Just then, laughter rang off from nearby.
Two rich young ladies were using the binoculars provided by the restaurant on the top floor to look at the ruins outside the city wall of Faye City.
“Look, that is a real vicious beast.”
“What kind of beast is that big dog? It looks so ugly. Is it eating something?”
“Why isn’t anyone hunting them? I want to see some magisters in action.”
The two rich young ladies exclaimed. They gathered in front of the binoculars and made a fuss.
A rich young man approached the two young ladies and said scornfully, “It’s just a corrosive hound. I can crush it with one hand.”
“I wonder what those useless magisters are doing in the hunting area. They can’t even finish all these weak beasts.”
Austin shot to his feet.
Hika was slightly surprised and asked, “What’s the matter?”
Austin shook his head and said coldly, “This is not the world that I want to protect.”
With that, Austin strode toward the blabbering rich kid.
Slap!
Austin slapped him without saying anything.
The crisp sound of the slap echoed throughout the restaurant.
The elites, who were having dinner and conversing gracefully, were all stunned.
The rich heir covered his swollen face and looked at Austin in disbelief.
Immediately, his eyes burned with anger.
“How dare you…!”
Slap!
Another slap landed on his other cheek.
The force of the slap was so strong that the second-generation heir’s head buzzed, and blood oozed from the corner of his mouth.
“Don’t you forget the reason why we are living in a peaceful and prosperous era. Countless pioneers, countless magisters had thrown their heads and spilled their blood. They worked hard and used their blood and bones to build what we have today.
“Without the magisters fighting with their lives outside, you are nothing. You might already become the feces of a corrosive hound by now!”
After Austin said that, he turned around and left the restaurant.
