Chapter 25: Rhythm of the Arcane, Unable to Progress?
Andrew held a book in his hands as he hurriedly entered the Association’s Headquarters. On the way, the mages all looked at him with extremely respectful gazes.
“Mr. Smith, you’ve come again today.”
“Yes.”
Andrew nodded casually. After a short exchange of pleasantries, he took out the medal that Lanza had given him and used his authority as the Honorary President to enter the magic book collection. He could not wait to sit down, he flipped open the manual on how to cultivate arcane in the realm of a great mage.
In a way, Andrew was lucky. The President was not far from a breakthrough, which was why the Rafax City was able to keep books on the cultivation of arcane in its collection. He had gone off to explore the secret realm at this point, so Andrew had the opportunity to learn about them. Otherwise, Andrew could only benefit from the records and insights of these advanced magical books and would only have access to that more advanced knowledge when he was promoted to the headquarters.
‘Is organizing the elements crucial?’
Andrew instantly flipped through the book in his hand, he was able to understand the premise of arcane cultivation very quickly.
‘Compared to ordinary magic, which mainly relies on spiritual power to outline runes, the magic power in the internal nodes of the body only serves as a transit station to communicate with the outside world.’
‘The arcane in the great mage realm requires the use of spiritual power to draw runes at the same time, allowing one’s magic power to operate in a certain special way.’
‘Only by doing this can one have the ability to cultivate the arcane.’
‘That’s not right. Why didn’t this book mention the problem with the fire spirit?’
Andrew discovered a blind spot. After flipping through the book in his hand, he roughly understood why his blazing sun fireball and red lotus flare were so powerful. It was because these two spells had been fused with the arcane runes, so it was able to better mobilize the power of the fire spirit in his body, and the nodes had already completed a certain special operation of the fire elements. This was very similar to what this book said.
‘Arcane level spells and arcane are not the same, but it can effectively allow a mage to familiarize himself with the ability to mobilize arcane spells earlier?’
‘I’m in luck.’
Andrew mused. Then, he felt that something was wrong. The special nature of fire spirit elemental beings benefited Andrew greatly, however, this mage book on arcane did not contain any knowledge related to elemental beings.
‘Unless…the difficulty of entering the fire elemental world is higher than I imagined. Ordinary great mages are unable to come into contact with related knowledge.’
Andrew found this speculation a little too wild, but with his hundredfold talent, it was still possible.
‘Forget it, there are no great mages in the entire Rafax City. My wild guess won’t be of much use. Perhaps the person who wrote this book simply wanted to hide the information about the elemental beings like the fire spirit. Who knows?’
Andrew quickly dismissed the distracting thoughts in his mind. He had a good idea. Previously, he had developed two arcane level spells. To a certain extent, he could make the magic power in the node move and circulate in a special rhythm. Thus, Andrew immediately turned to the second half of the book, which described specific measures to cultivate the arcane.
…
“The essence of the arcane is the comprehension and application of the fundamental magical laws.”
This was the sentence that left the deepest impression on Andrew after flipping through the entire book.
So that was how it was. A flash of understanding appeared in his eyes.
‘The essence of the arcane is something that is a level higher than magic. If it is an ordinary spell, I would just need to mobilize the elements.’
‘And the use of the arcane is to allow the elements to resonate in a certain way and evolve.’
‘Thus, a mage must first transform the specific elements in his body, and then use his spiritual power to outline runes to expand his influence, spreading the evolution of the elements to the outside world.’
‘Generating the law and applying it to spells is the only way to complete the arcane.’
‘According to the contents of the book, for an ordinary mage to advance to a great mage, he must comprehend the most basic law among the attributes that he is already cultivating. For example, the most basic law of the fire is burning.’
‘After activating this law, any fire spell with an additional arcane will have an extremely high temperature and an extremely strong burning ability. Even some conceptual products such as magic power and spells can burn and destroy things alive!’
‘And the basic law of the earth element is gravity, the water element is waves and the wind element is the movement of air currents…’
Andrew revealed a look of relief. If one needed to master an arcane to advance to a great mage, then focusing on one element would be the most correct way of thinking.
‘However, other than burning, I can learn some other laws.’
Andrew was deep in thought. A moment ago, he had read some of the stories and legends mentioned by the author. One of them had piqued his interest. The book mentioned that some lucky mages could enter a specific elemental world and obtain arcane runes.
‘Arcane runes can strengthen spells, but it’s only the most insignificant effect. More importantly, these arcane runes often contain some special elemental laws. If I can comprehend their combat strength, it will far surpass that of an ordinary mage!’
Andrew read out the original text of the book, feeling a little excited. At this time, he could tell that his control of entering the elemental world was something an ordinary mage could not imitate! At the same time, he was pleasantly surprised. If he cultivated the law from the two arcane runes he had already obtained, his combat strength would surpass that of an ordinary great mage by quite a bit!
At this moment, Andrew was not aiming too high. He was still prepared to try out the operation of the basic burning law. The book he was reading recorded the cultivation method of this basic law.
‘Will the magic power in the nodes of my body move rhythmically at a specific frequency?’
Andrew sank his consciousness into the nodes.
He repeatedly used his spiritual power to fiddle with the magic power in the nodes. As he persevered, very soon, traces of fire elements gradually became active, flickering continuously according to a specific frequency.
‘There is indeed a chance.’
Andrew continued to do so but was surprised to find that he could only affect less than a third of the nodes with his magic. No matter how hard he clenched his teeth and urged his spiritual power, it was useless. Andrew soon discovered the reason.
‘It’s you?’
It was the fire spirit that he had already subdued. It sent a somewhat confused spiritual signal to Andrew. After much difficulty, he finally understood.
Andrew didn’t know whether to laugh or cry.
‘So it turns out that this fire spirit has no way of understanding such a complicated operation. I can activate the magic power in my body, but I can’t use the higher-grade power formed by this fire spirit.’
He felt helpless, but he wasn’t discouraged. Andrew long had an idea for the cultivation of the fire spirit, which was to cultivate more fire spells and advance more spells to gain enlightenment, this special enlightenment could strengthen the fire spirit in his body. It was only a matter of time before his plight was resolved..
