Magical Girl Hero - Chapter 15
There is something called the duty to work.
As you all know, it is one of the three major obligations of Japanese citizens.
The obligation, in this case, is due to the spiritual interpretation that there are rights and responsibilities, and that one should work.
In short, work is not something that is forced upon us. There are people who are overflowing with spirit to service, who want to work and think they should contribute to society, but it is not something that can be forced.
Nevertheless, money is one of the most important things for people to survive. Some may argue that money is not necessary if you just want to continue your vital activities, you can live as long as you have nourishment.
However, there is a big difference between having money and not having money to color one’s life. Living is not limited to the body, the mind also needs to be enriched.
Therefore, I believe that money is necessary to obtain it, and labor is necessary to obtain that money.
Then is labor unnecessary if you have money, this is a difficult question.
For example, when you win the first prize in a lottery, you will have a large amount of money as a huge fortune. Can you quit your job at that time.
The answer is probably no.
Of course, there are some jobs that contractually prohibit you from quitting for a certain period of time, but let’s leave that aside.
It takes a lot of courage to make a drastic change in your life.
Even if you started a job to earn money, those who can decide to quit as soon as they have the money are probably in the minority.
In other words, what I am trying to say after all these long excuses is that it is inevitable that I have not quit my part-time job.
“Welcome!”
I worked part-time at a convenience store until late at night. I had a lot of money and the job of being a magical girl, which I didn’t really consider a job, but I still couldn’t make the decision to quit.
It had been less than two years and it was a part-time job, it was something I started by just going with the flow, and I still felt like it would be a waste to let it go.
However, there are too many inconveniences in the current situation to the extent that I want to add the caveat that, that’s if I had been still a man.
First of all, the uniform is too big.
Naturally, most work uniforms, including those for part-time jobs at convenience stores, are not designed for elementary and junior high school students. In some places, such as the entertainment industry or work experience centers, such uniforms may be prepared out of concern for the children.
However, the convenience store where I work is a small, nondescript store.
In fact, considering the fact that students are now seen only occasionally in this area due to its renaming as a “development zone” and the gradual changes in the way it is run, it is probably more characterized as a “convenience store frequented by adults in the prime of their careers”.
Once again, the uniforms are too large. The sleeves are too baggy and the hems almost reached the knees, and in this condition, if I’m not careful, the clothes will get caught anywhere.
No, I know. I know that this is not because of the size of the uniform.
After all, I can’t reach the top of the shelf without standing on my toes, and I can’t even reach the cigarette shelf. When I give changes at the counter, I’m almost leaning over, and it’s hard to type at the register. It is very humiliating when a pedestal for me is placed under the counter.
Overall, I am too short. I didn’t even have to think about it.
Overall, Roze’s body right now looks like an elementary or junior high school student. Considering that the height might be less than 140cm tall, I think it’s on the small side even among junior high school students.
Considering that when I was a man, I could barely reach 170, so it’s a difference of about 30 cm. If it’s normal, my senses would already be broken.
Fortunately, I don’t know if it’s thanks to magic or not, but my sense of balance is not impaired at all. No hindrance at all, but…. It is not a matter of not being able to reach it. It is not a matter of sensory issues, but a physical one.
If I could use magic, I wouldn’t have to worry about it, but of courses there’s no way I can use it here. I don’t want to be revealed as a hero for something like this. It would be too lame.
At any rate, the current part-time job has become quite difficult due to the formidable enemy, my height.
Or rather, the store manager is also wierd.
I wish they would have some doubts about having someone with the appearance of a child working here.
People who came to the store for the first time were surprised and talked to me, and I guess my perception that it was not normal for me to be working at this time isn’t wrong, but when I come for the night shift, the store manager just looked at me with a smile. No, he said, “How rare. Recently, the number of young students is increasing”. Look in front of you. My appearance is that of a student you know.
It seems that all the people I have had contact with have had their memories of when I was a man altered, and because of that, no matter how young I look, they don’t feel any sense of discomfort.
Even the family register can be altered, so it seems that at least that level of recognition can be easily changed. It’s too scary not knowing how far the aftermath will spread.
“Miss, can I have the bill please?”
“Ah, yes! I’m on my way now!”
No matter how much I complain, as long as I’m at work, I have to do my job.
I went through the aisle where I need more step than usual, and proceeded to count the bill while reaching out my hand.
“Thank you very much!”
It seems the manager was telling the truth when he said that the number of student customers had increased.
Because, despite the fact that it was a part-time job that lasts until late at night, three groups of girls who looked like elementary and junior high school students came to the store.
No, it is strange.
Sure, it’s not like there’s no students that come to this convenience store. Of course there are customers other than adults, and if the number has been increasing, it is not strange that I happened to see some students today.
Except that the time is now close to midnight.
If it’s a high school or college student, then that’s still fine, but what’s going on with elementary and junior high school students coming to the store at this time. I won’t care, if you got taken into custody, you know.
Even now, the girl that looks like a junior high school student is standing on the corner of the store reading a newspaper.
It is amazing to see a girl of that age reading a newspaper. When I was around the same age, I didn’t read newspapers at all, kids these days are so mature.
I was looking at the girl in admiration, but when I saw the headline of the newspaper in her hand, I remembered that I had forgotten my daily routine.
‘Come to think of it, I totally forgot to read the magical girl special. Just because I’m a hero doesn’t mean I should neglect it.’
A magical girl appeared when I was longing to be a hero. The Magical Girl Special is a page in the newspaper where the newspaper covers where magical girl defeated the “Wanderer” and words of thanks that were expressed by the people who were saved.
Since it was not clear what kind of existence magical girls were, the information in the feature was very vague and unreliable, but the fact that the Wanderer had been defeated and the gratitude of the people who had been saved were real.
Naturally, as someone who longed to be a hero, I read the feature every day, and even though the things inside the feature are done by a magical girl, I couldn’t help but feel that I would eventually want to be a hero myself.
Well, in the end, I was able to become a hero as a magical girl though.
I’m not everyone’s ideal hero like the one featured in the feature, but if possible, I’d like for it to include Blackrose’s cool appearance. Also, if someone would thank me, I’m sure the heroic spirit within me would feel great.
As I start to optimistically think about the future that will come, I pick up the newspaper and start reading it on the counter to catch up on my forgotten routine.
I had a feeling that ‘Could it be’ when I catch a glimpse of something when I picked it up, but I let out a squeal of delight when I entered the counter and saw the first figure that appeared.
“Oh… Oh!!”
There was Blackrose, raising her sword and ready to bring down the hammer of justice on the monster.
There was a similar photo on the mobile phone that Mokyu showed me, but it made me even happier that it was in the newspaper.
Around the photo were the words “Mysterious Black Magical Girl” in large letters, along with messages from those who had been saved.
This is what a hero should be like. There is a theory that heroes don’t ask for anything in return, but the more gratitude you receive, the happier you will be. The person being saved is WIN, and me being thanked WIN, and I’m sure Momochu would agree with me.
I wonder if they’re biased on their words , but the fact that there are only positive words in the Magical Girls Special satisfies my desire to show off as a hero. I wish everything in the world was as kind as this.
“Fufufufufu”
The fact that I was featured in the newspaper, which I usually just admire and watch, seemed to excite me more than I expected, and I unintentionally let out a cute voice.
I guess that’s why I let my guard down.
The strong blow precisely hit the gap in my heart pierced into my chest.
“Do you like magical girls too?”
“Uah!?”
I thought my heart would jump out of my mouth.
