Chapter 39 Desert Fire Scorpion
The film dissipated, and Li Zheng felt a strong wind containing sand blowing on his face.
“Bah!”
Unprepared, Li Zheng ate a mouthful of sand and spat it out. “Chirp, chirp, bah!” Chirpy was lying on the edge of his pocket, screaming and spitting out the sand in its mouth.
Li Zheng pulled it out and held it in his chest, comforting it. “Stay in the pocket for now. I’ll let you out in the next room.” “Chirp.”
Chirpy sneaked into the small pocket of his inner shirt.
Then, Li Zheng looked up at the room with the Desert Eagle in his hand.
After two days of exploration, Li Zheng was no longer the ignorant fool he used to be. He now understood that he must have a weapon in hand at all times.
Even if it only took a second to retrieve it from the capsule.
“It’s another non-metallic room. Is this…a desert?”
Golden sand was everywhere, and a hot wind from an unknown source swept up sand and dust.
Looking up, one could vaguely see the blue sky, and a scorching sun hung high.
“Is this the real sky? Or is it a simulation?” Li Zheng was bewildered.
It was a pity that the gravity shoes were now useless. Otherwise, he could go up and check it out.
The dessert room was vast. At a glance, there was only sand, not even a cactus could be seen.
Li Zheng gripped the Desert Eagle in his hand tightly, his eyes narrowing as he scanned his surroundings. “The Eye of Pryles hinted that there was a bronze-grade creature here, but I didn’t notice anything. It must be hiding somewhere, waiting to kill me. I must be careful.”
Li Zheng could not see far with the sand blocking his vision, so he could only walk deeper into the desert.
Li Zheng’s ears perked up as he listened attentively. He did not dare to miss even the slightest movement, and his gaze swept across his surroundings from time to time.
“The ground under my feet is soft yet solid. This means that the sand in this room is very thick.”
Li Zheng was wearing the same pair of shoes he had worn when he entered the matrix. He scratched the ground with his feet, but there was no sign of metal. “That bronze-grade creature must be small to be able to move under the sand, so there’s a high chance I’ll be ambushed.”
As Li Zheng pondered, he suddenly had an
idea.
“I wonder if the Eye of Pryles can detect danger under the sand?”
He would know after trying.
Li Zheng raised his head, enduring the discomfort of the sand flying into his eyes as he tried his best to look forward.
As expected, the it displayed a message:
(Walk in this direction and after fifteen minutes you will see the door to the next room.]
“Nice!”
Li Zheng was overjoyed. Even though the system did not provide him with more specific information about the next room, he could at least proceed in this direction.
He looked to the left.
(Walk in this direction and you will see the door to the next room in 18 minutes.]
On the right:
[Congratulations. After choosing the wrong answers twice, you finally found the right path. Go this direction and you’ll be attacked in five minutes.] “???”
Li Zheng was confused. Ever since he upgraded it, the detector seemed glitchy. Sometimes it would sound sarcastic.
“Does it have consciousness?”
The thought flashed through Li Zheng’s mind, and he found it funny. “Isn’t this like a sci-fi movie? Will it be infected by a virus and become the ultimate villain?”
He shook his head and ignored it.
He must have watched too many Hollywood movies to think about this.
“Let’s go over and see what kind of monster it is. It’s not taking the initiative to attack, but chooses to stay and wait for its prey.”
Walking to the right, the Eye of Pyrles gave a prompt again.
(There’s a “lazy” creature hiding under the mound ahead. You can choose to take a detour or shoot now.]
Li Zheng looked at the direction. At the end of his line of sight, he could barely make out a bump the size of a millstone on the flat sand.
The mound wasn’t that big, and if it wasn’t for the Eye of Pyrles, Li Zheng might not have noticed it.
“‘lazy’?”
Li Zheng looked at it carefully, thinking that the so-called laziness wasn’t laziness at all, but something else.
“The Eye of Pyrles’ warned me in time. In this environment, the current distance is the limit of my effective range.”
He raised his gun, aimed, and fired!
There was a loud explosion
It was just a normal shot, but the energy bullet passed through the air and hit the surface of the sand.
“Hiss!”
The shot seemed to have angered the creature. After an angry hiss, the surface suddenly rose, and a creature the size of a millstone emerged.
“Illustrated handbook!”
He activated the scan function and locked onto the target.
Beep.
[Desert Fire Scorpion.]
[Bronze-grade.)
(A creature covered in thick carapace. It is solitary and moves in the desert as if it is on flat ground.]
(When it is not hunting, it likes to hide in the sand.)
[Abilities: camouflage, poison]
(Weaknesses: mouth opening, ice]
Li Zheng memorized all the information about the Desert Fire Scorpion. “No wonder the detector said it was of low threat level. It’s another weakness that I can take advantage of.”
The Desert Fire Scorpion had already noticed Li Zheng. It raised its head and hissed, moving its limbs in a criss-cross manner. It sprinted across the sand at a speed comparable to an electric car!
A pair of cold eyes could be seen under its grayish-yellow shell, locking onto Li Zheng, who had the audacity to provoke it.
It thought it could tear this human who had no shell to protect his body apart.
He was just like the prey it ate not long ago.
“You’re quite fast, but it’s a pity you’ve encountered me…”
Li Zheng calmly looked at the incoming Desert Fire Scorpion, then slowly set the Desert Eagle to special shooting mode.
“Ice and Fire Resistance, ice element!”
Whoosh! Whoosh! Whoosh!
The Desert Eagle opened fire. The snake grass needles were wrapped in blue ice. The temperature was extremely low, and they turned into beautiful ice bullets, shooting toward the Desert Fire Scorpion in succession.
After switching to special shooting mode, the Desert Eagle’s recoil was almost non-existent. Li Zheng wasn’t worried that his rapid firing would affect his accuracy.
“Hmm?”
Li Zheng’s brows twitched. “I think I can do better!”
The hand holding the gun was as steady as a rock, and every time he fired, he would make very fine adjustments.
One shot after another, the snake grass needles were shot out.
Pa!
The Desert Fire Scorpion dodged an ice bullet. The bullet, which was originally aimed at its mouth, hit its shell, shattering the ice and needles.
“Hiss~~!”
The Desert Fire Scorpion roared in pain, and several more ice bullets hit its body. The intense pain was transmitted to its brain and received by its nerves.
Only then did it realize that after the seemingly fragile bullet shattered, it could create pores in its hard shell.
A large amount of yellow mucus oozed out from the wound. The Desert Fire Scorpion, driven by instinct, suddenly felt fear. It turned and tried to escape.
It could not figure out how this seemingly weak creature could hurt it.
In fact, if he didn’t escape quickly, he could kill him!
Run!
It had more than one territory anyway!
The Desert Fire Scorpion ignored everything else and turned around quickly, trying to escape.
It was already terrified before it even got within ten meters of Li Zheng.
“You want to leave?”
Li Zheng sneered. He turned his gun and aimed at the Desert Fire Scorpion’s joint.
“Boom boom boom!”
“Pa pa pa!”
Even though the Desert Fire Scorpion had increased its speed, it still couldn’t avoid being hit, so it started to fall apart.
“I didn’t expect that my shooting skills would improve after upgrading my neural response.”
Li Zheng looked at the Desert Fire Scorpion, which had lost all its limbs and was struggling on the ground. He calmly reloaded the gun with more snake grass needles.
“Although the special shooting mode has a very small recoil, there are still some minor effects.”
He didn’t get too close. Instead, he raised his gun and fired, as if he was shooting a stationary target in a shooting range. “But ever since I drank the black-iron-grade potion, I no longer feel it.”
“This is what 100% accuracy feels like!”
After firing another 20 snake grass needles, the Desert Fire Scorpion finally stopped struggling. The sand around it was soaked in yellow slime, which emitted a foul smell.
“Yes, two magazines. I’ve almost grasped my current reaction speed.”
Li Zheng nodded in satisfaction. After confirming that it was dead, he approached it.
