“It’s still early, you can sleep for 30 more minutes.” Mo Shen’s arm around her seemed exceptionally strong as he reminded her in a low and gentle voice.
Ye Mu was in a trance as her watery eyes roamed over Mo Shen.
Suddenly, she realized that this was her dream life about half a month ago—being able to say good morning to the person she loved the moment she opened her eyes. However, at this moment, the person next to her was not the man she had expected back then.
Ye Mu’s heart still ached as she thought of Gu Yiming and Ye Qiyi. She was really hurt by what the two had done. She lowered her gaze and bit her red lips uncontrollably.
Mo Shen touched her red lips and rubbed them gently, preventing her teeth from injuring her own lips.
With a tinge of indescribable emotion in his calm voice, he said, “Don’t think about things that will just hurt you.”
Ye Mu was shocked and looked at him in disbelief. How… how did he knew what she was thinking?
“I…” Ye Mu moved her red lips and hesitated, unsure of what to say next.
“Sleep for a little more, you would most probably be tired today. ” Mo Shen said softly to Ye Mu, as he lifted the quilt off his body and got out of bed.
Ye Mu sat up and looked at him: “Are you going out?”
“Yes, there are some matters to be dealt with in the company.” Mo Shen then went ahead and started to strip right in front of Ye Mu.
His face remained indifferent.
Clearly, he didn’t mind changing his clothes in front of her, and so he went ahead and took off his shirt before changing into his suit.
As Mo Shen was buttoning up his suit, Ye Mu caught a glimpse of his robust abs. Witnessing such a sight made her feel awkward as her cheeks furiously blushed even as she turned her face away from him.
Hearing the creaking sound of the bedroom door being opened, Ye Mu was quick to look at him before asking, “Young Uncle, will you be available tonight?”
Mo Shen stopped in his tracks and turned around.
A gentle smile suffused on his lips as he nodded, “Yes.”
The worry on Ye Mu’s face slowly faded after hearing his words. She slept peacefully for another half an hour before she woke up.
There was a set of simple Western-style breakfast on the table which did not look like it was made half an hour ago. This breakfast must’ve been prepared before Mo Shen left the mansion.
He left a note next to the dishes, “Remember to heat it up if it’s cold.”
As Ye Mu held the note, her red lips slowly curved into a smile.
Lin Shi Starlight Theater Academy was considered to be the best drama academy in the country. Its fame brought with it a lot of known and famous people for the upcoming graduation show. With this being considered, most of the female students often used the graduation show as a stepping stone to the industry.
Hence, they always made themselves look as beautiful as possible.
Ye Mu’s role was an old lady, so it was impossible for her to look beautiful with the old lady make-up applied on her skin.
She sat in the waiting room, reading her lines as she raised her hand to check her watch from time to time.
The show was about to begin, but Mo Shen has yet to arrive.
“Ye Qiyi is here… Ye Qiyi is here! My god, she’s so beautiful!” A voice rang out at the entrance of the waiting room.
When the words reverberated throughout the room, everyone was quick to stand up. Ye Qiyi was an alumna of Starlight Drama Academy and she was the most popular among those that had recently graduated. She was a role model for many of the students, so it wasn’t surprising that the school had invited her to watch the show.
As the commotion swelled, Ye Mu didn’t plan to join in the clamor. She sat quietly at where she was. However, when she heard Ye Qiyi’s voice, she couldn’t help but lift her head up, and coincidentally—her gaze met with Ye Qiyi’s.
Ye Qiyi seemed to have deliberately targeted her that day. Upon meeting eyes with Ye Mu’s, Ye Qiyi’s arm wrapped around Gu Yiming’s as she smiled, “Xiao Mu is over there, why don’t we go over there and greet her?”
Gu Yiming had both of his hands in his pockets. He turned to look at where Ye Qiyi was gesturing.
Ye Mu tightly clenched her tiny fists as she noticed that Ye Qiyi and Gu Yiming were slowly approaching her from the distance. She glanced at Gu Yiming and discovered that his eyes were cold and indifferent.
It was as if he was looking at a stranger.
Then, at this moment—Ye Mu realized that Gu Yiming’s eyes had always been cold from the beginning up to the end.
“Xiao Mu, congratulations. You’re finally about to graduate.” Ye Qiyi said with a smile, looking generous and kind.
Ye Mu’s gaze moved over from Gu Yiming to Ye Qiyi. A faint smile suffused on her lips as she said with a tinge of estrangement, “Thank you.”
Ye Qiyi’s grasp around Gu Yiming’s arm tightened as she looked up to him and asked, “Yiming, don’t you have any words of blessings for Xiao Mu? In the future… it won’t be so easy to meet her anymore.”
“After all, Xiao Mu’s living in the Hua Jing district which is quite distant from where we are.”
The grievance and jealousy in her voice weren’t that hard to notice. Obviously, she was still lamenting that Xiao Mu was occupying the Hua Jing district mansion that should’ve been hers.
Ye Mu took a deep breath and looked up at Gu Yiming. She wanted to hear what words of blessings Gu Yiming could say to her.
Gu Yiming smiled at Ye Qiyi’s words. When he turned to look at Ye Mu, there was an obvious change in his attitude as he said, “I wish you success in your performance.”
“Thank you, I will.” Ye Mu nodded, feeling ridiculed and mocked.
Ye Qiyi smiled with satisfaction, “Xiao Mu, we won’t disturb you any longer. We will wait for your performance on the stage.”
It turned out that Gu Yiming had always treated her differently in contrast to Ye Qiyi, but she had never noticed it until now.
She had put on the guise of an old lady, wrinkles riddled her face and her clothes were also torn and tattered. She felt embarrassed facing the two of them in her current state. As she watched them leave, her heart ached.
Gu Yiming was someone that she had loved for so many years, how could she not be upset when she had just discovered what she hadn’t noticed back then?
The graduation drama was now ongoing and Ye Mu’s appearance was set to be at the final scene, so she wasn’t in a hurry.
Calming her wildly beating heart, she walked to the backstage and gently lifted the curtains as she looked around for Mo Shen.
The area was too dark for her to see anything clearly.
She tried her best as she surveyed the area for Mo Shen’s presence, but her search was interrupted when someone told her that she had to go onstage. She quickly let go of the curtains and walked across the dimly-lit stage before taking a seat on top of the table.
As the curtains ascended, the spotlight beamed on her. Her face couldn’t be seen due to the light shining over her head, but the sound of her coughing rang loud and clear. As the light gradually intensified, she slowly stood up.
“Everything that should go had gone, leaving me—this old lady alive…” A raspy old voice rang out as Ye Mu hunched her back and told the story of her character to the crowd.
Ye Mu lamented and let out a laugh, “Humans, are all like this—you live and die, but not by choice. A careless life is still a life. A life lived seriously is also a life. Someone like me… deserves to die—the more I live, the more I waste. Food for my children—is what I waste.”
The audience watched Ye Mu attentively, inexplicably attracted to her slim figure.
Even Gu Yiming couldn’t help but focus his gaze on her.
He had always thought that Ye Mu wasn’t serious about getting into the Theater Academy and that she merely wanted to be a celebrity for the sake of clout.
He had no idea that she had such excellent acting skills.
Ye Mu was acting as a kind old lady who took poison for her children’s survival.
She finished her lines emotionally and sat at where she was when she first appeared.
Her body softened and fell onto the table.
The scene of her lying on the table in tears moved most of the crowd.
At this moment, the girls who were more emotionally sensitive couldn’t help but wipe their tears from their faces.
There was even someone who stood up and offered a round of applause.
This was completely unexpected. No one had ever thought that in the graduation drama, the one who would shine so brightly and become so outstanding wasn’t one of those that held the leading roles. It was someone with a mere supporting role.
