Chapter 23: I believe you
Gu Yiming looked at the blood on his fingertips. He knew that Mo Shen was Ye Mu’s husband and he could not help but sneer, “Do you know who I am to her?”
“Let’s go.” Ye Mu’s wrapped her hands around Mo Shen’s arm in a panic.
She did not want to stay here any longer.
Mo Shen slowly raised his other hand and pressed it on the back of Ye Mu’s hand to comfort her, but his eyes were on Gu Yiming, “I know.”
“You know?” Gu Yiming licked the blood from the corner of his mouth and despite how disgusting the act was, he still managed to look charming. Then, he reminded, “We were more than just friends.”
Mo Shen looked at Gu Yiming with increased mockery in his expression, “Of course, you are not simply her friend. You are the scum that she met before!”
Mo Shen said the word scum with great emphasis. Gu Yiming’s expression changed. He turned a little blue as he gnashed his teeth, “What did you say?!”
“I will let you know how stupid you were for letting her go.” Mo Shen raised his arm and pulled Ye Mu into his embrace.
Seeing Ye Mu’s obedience into being in Mo Shen’s embrace, Gu Yiming’s hands couldn’t help but tightly clenched into fists, “Really? Then, I shall wait and see! But it seems that I forgot to remind you that she is someone that I had already rejected. She’s not that important to me.”
Ye Mu’s shoulders trembled all of a sudden. It was as if someone pulled at her heart and caused her a great deal of pain. She bit her lips and stared at Gu Yiming, “You are shameless!”
After all these years, she finally realized that she really adored the wrong person.
How could this man even say such things?!
Mo Shen wasn’t provoked by Gu Yiming’s words at all. A faint smile appeared on his well-defined cheeks, “Really? Wasn’t it you who wanted to force my wife into something just now?”
The muscles on Gu Yiming’s cheeks tightened, and he couldn’t say anything at all. What happened just now was something that he couldn’t explain in words. When he saw Ye Mu resist him earlier, he wanted to kiss her in a fit of anger.
As for why? Even he wasn’t so sure.
“Let me advise you. Don’t keep thinking about someone else’s wife.” Mo Shen coldly looked at Gu Yiming. He then held Ye Mu’s hand and walked with her straight towards the door.
Gu Yiming narrowed his eyes and stared at their backs. Raising his fist, he slammed it against the wall as his mouth trembled open and closed, “Ye Mu…”
Ye Mu followed Mo Shen into the car.
She did not know what to say along the way, neither did she know how to explain herself.
Mo Shen was also silent, and the car was surprisingly quiet.
After a while, Mo Shen’s gentle voice could be heard in the car as he asked, “Are you hungry?”
Ye Mu stared blankly at his face as he talked.
It was only when Mo Shen turned to look at her did she recover from her trance. Mo Shen smiled at her and it seemed that he did not take what had happened to his heart, “What do you want to eat?”
Ye Mu finally realized that she was a little hungry. She seemed to have forgotten what had happened earlier for she was now mulling over the question that Mo Shen had given to her.
In ten minutes, the car stopped in front of a stall somewhere remote.
The fragrance of the braised pork rice wafted over to Ye Mu as she got out of the car. In the past, whenever she felt downcast. She would always come here for a bowl of braised pork rice and indulged herself in it, so she could forget about everything else.
“Young Uncle, why are you still in the car?” Ye Mu noticed that Mo Shen remained seated in the car as he looked at the stall in front of them.
Hearing Ye Mu’s words, Mo Shen faintly smiled and walked out of the car.
The location of the stall was a bit remote, yet it still had a lot of customers.
As soon as Mo Shen and Ye Mu sat down, the boss came over with a notebook and asked enthusiastically, “What do you want?”
“I want one bowl of braised pork rice.” With her eyebrows curved, she lifted a finger.
She then turned around and asked Mo Shen, “What are you eating?”
Mo Shen furrowed his eyebrows, his words came out slightly unnatural, “I’m fine with anything.”
Ye Mu nodded and ordered on behalf of Mo Shen, “Then, we’ll have two bowls of braised pork rice. Also, add some additional coriander, make it extra spicy.”
The boss quickly wrote their orders down on the paper, “All right, both of you, please wait for a while.”
It was Mo Shen’s first time to come to a place like this, so he wasn’t used to it. After ordering, he returned to the car and carried with him some paper towels as he wiped the utensils intently and then even cleaned the table after that.
Ye Mu looked at this scene a little dumbfounded, “Uncle… Are you mysophobic?”
Mo Shen cleared his throat. He didn’t admit nor deny Ye Mu’s words.
While waiting for the braised pork rice, Ye Mu looked at the surroundings.
When she saw a couple at the table next to her, her eyes went blank for a moment.
The couple seemed to be quarreling, and the man looked at the woman coldly, “Aren’t you going to leave? Why are you still eating at this point in time?”
Listening to the man’s words, the woman’s shoulders twitched and seemed like she was about to cry. However, she still fed herself with the spoon in her hand. With tears in her eyes, she ate the braised pork rice and said in a low voice, “This bowl of braised pork rice is very expensive, there may not be a second time this month…”
When the man listened to the woman, his eyes turned red. The anger on his face was eased, and he remained silent for a while before saying the words, “I’m sorry.”
Ye Mu’s heart was beating hard when looking at the scene.
She recalled that she liked to eat the braised pork rice at this stall because her father had always brought her here when she was young.
Later on, on the day her father passed away, which was also the day Gu Yiming and her had promised each other to get married, she had also dragged Gu Yiming over here to eat the braised pork rice with him.
At that time, she was crying while eating.
Her father might’ve already passed away, yet she could still feel his presence whenever she was eating the braised pork rice in this place like she always did with him.
She understood Gu Yiming, but Gu Yiming did not understand her. That day, he was waiting impatiently while she ate the braised pork rice, probably annoyed by her incessant crying.
Thinking about it now, Ye Mu could not help but smile sarcastically. She was indeed muddle-headed back then, to think that she hadn’t noticed how irritated Gu Yiming was to her at that time.
“Here are two orders of braised pork rice…”
While Ye Mu was in a daze, the boss had already delivered the braised pork rice.
Ye Mu returned to her senses.
She took a deep breath and swept away the unhappy emotions in her heart.
With a smile, she told Mo Shen who had been looking at her all this while, “Taste it.”
Mo Shen gave a light smile and reluctantly moved his chopsticks.
In contrast to Mo Shen, Ye Mu liked the braised pork rice very much. She swallowed mouthfuls after mouthfuls of the pieces of pork as she ate.
She noticed that Mo Shen hadn’t eaten that much ever since she started her feast, “The braised pork rice from this stall is really good. Is it not to your liking, Young Uncle?”
“Well, I don’t like it too much.” Mo Shen knitted his brows. He was used to eating meat with the cook done at medium-rare. He wasn’t that much of a fan of greasy and well-done meat.
Fortunately, Ye Mu didn’t seem to mind that he hadn’t taken a fancy to the food. Instead, she took all of the braised pork from his bowl into her own bowl, “We can’t waste it.”
She said these words and continued to enjoy her food.
Mo Shen smiled at her, barely eating. He gave her everything she liked.
When Ye Mu was almost done with her food, she poked the rice in her bowl as if she was contemplating something. After some hesitation, she finally mustered enough courage and asked, “Young Uncle, are you not curious about what happened today?”
“Do you want to talk about it?” Mo Shen retorted with a question of his own. His eyebrows slightly raised as he looked at her.
Ye Mu shook her head. She did not want to talk about it at all. She did not even want to remember what had happened nor even mention it to anyone.
Mo Shen calmly replied, “Then don’t talk about it, I believe you.”
Ye Mu was taken aback. Her heart thumped against her chest as her heartbeat sped up.
The three words, ‘I believe you’ were ever so powerful in the ears of Ye Mu who had never been deemed as trustworthy by anyone in her entire life.
His words warmed her entire heart.
