Chapter 29: Growing Old Together
Ye Mu hadn’t even thought of having a honeymoon yet, but Mo Shen already had it in mind as he asked her that question. Ye Mu looked particularly guilty as she opened her mouth and answered, “I don’t have any particular place that I want to go to…”
Mo Shen’s forehead wrinkled slightly, then raised and he asked curiously, “You really don’t have any?”
He had originally assumed that once he mentioned traveling, Ye Mu would look forward to it and be overjoyed with the idea.
Ye Mu thought carefully in her mind as her eyeballs spun around slightly. There wasn’t any particular city that she wanted to visit, “I had always wanted to go mountain climbing but there doesn’t seem to be a mountain in this city.”
“… There certainly isn’t any in this city.” Mo Shen let out two hearty laughs upon hearing Ye Mu’s words. Was mountain climbing even a part of anyone’s honeymoon?
Mo Shen drove the car steadily and tilted his head to look at her again, “But A city—nearby this city—does have a mountain.”
“Can we go there?” Ye Mu’s eyes gleamed as she asked while staring at Mo Shen. It seemed that she was only interested in mountains.
Mo Shen nodded. Naturally, he had to abide by her opinions for the honeymoon, “Sure.”
Ye Mu beamed while looking at Mo Shen. After a long time, she shifted her eyes away from him.
Ye Mu was joyful with the idea of traveling, but she soon started struggling with organizing the luggage. She rarely went traveling, so she had no idea what was the appropriate type of clothes and how to organize their luggage.
“Young Uncle, is the weather over there hotter or colder?” She inquired in doubt. There were two pieces of clothing in Ye Mu’s hands. One of her hands held a piece dedicated for spring, while the other was holding onto clothes appropriate for summer.
Mo Shen, who was sitting on the sofa reading a magazine, glanced over at Ye Mu. He put the magazine down and got up. He took a serious look at Ye Mu’s luggage and reminded, “The weather is about the same as this city—it’s very comfortable.”
As he was speaking, he looked at the clothes that Ye Mu had placed in the suitcase and he raised his hand to remove a few pieces, “You don’t have to bring these.”
“You can bring fewer clothes. They are readily available over there,” Mo Shen stuck his hand into his pocket and reminded Ye Mu—revealing a smile on his handsome face.
Ye Mu didn’t notice the double entendre in Mo Shen’s words as she nodded her head, “Okay.”
While packing, the mobile phone by the side table kept ringing non-stop.
Ye Mu didn’t take look at the number and simply raised her hand to take the call, “Hello?”
There was silence on the other side of the phone and no one spoke. As Ye Mu’s eyes happened to see the weather forecast broadcasted on the television, she reminded Mo Shen, “The weather report says that A city will experience a heavy downpour tomorrow. Can we still go tomorrow?”
“Yes, it shouldn’t rain for too long.” Resettling on the sofa, Mo Shen glanced at the phone in her hand.
It was then that Ye Mu remembered that she was on the phone as she asked the person in the call in a hurry, “Who are you?”
On the other side of the phone, the man still didn’t make a sound, so Ye Mu lowered the phone and looked at the number—it was an unfamiliar number. She felt a little strange, “Hello? Who are you looking for? You…”
“Pa!” Ye Mu wasn’t done with asking her questions when the man on the other side of the call hung up abruptly.
As Ye Mu looked at her mobile phone, she mumbled, “Your attitude is so terrible even when you dialed the wrong number…”
At this moment, the person on the other side of that particular call was smoking a cigarette as he leaned against the balcony. He crushed the cigarette butt vehemently into the ashtray and sneered as he looked at the phone, “Ye Mu! Aren’t you daring!”
Ye Qiyi had just returned home and upon entering the study room, the thick smell of cigarette smoke filled her nostrils. She couldn’t help lifting her hand to wave it around while frowning, “Yiming, exactly how many cigarettes did you smoke? Why is the smell so strong?”
“Why are you home at this hour?” Gu Yiming raised his hand to disperse the smoke around him. Seeing that Ye Qiyi was home, his tone sounded puzzled.
Ye Qiyi put her handbag down and walked to Gu Yiming’s side. She raised her arms and wrapped them around his neck, “Is it bad to get off work earlier, so that I can be with you?”
Gu Yiming’s indifferent face changed as he smiled reluctantly at Ye Qiyi, “No, I’m just asking.”
Ye Qiyi did not notice the anomaly in Gu Yiming’s expression as she rested her cheek on his shoulder. There was a bit of exhaustion showing in her voice, “I recorded two new songs today, I’m so tired. But fortunately, work will be slightly easier for the next two days. I can accompany you more often. Are you happy?”
Even as she spoke like this to Gu Yiming, she was completely unaware that his heart was nowhere on her at all. His mind was filled with thoughts of Ye Mu running out from the building, smiling beautifully and once he thought about how that kind of smile wasn’t because of him, his heart ached inexplicably.
“Yiming? Are you listening to me?” Ye Qiyi asked as she shook Gu Yiming’s arm and looked at him with curiosity.
Gu Yiming returned his gaze to Ye Qiyi’s person. Two hands were pressed onto Ye Qiyi’s shoulders and he spoke lightly, “Qiyi, we’ll go to A city for a vacation.”
“Why did you suddenly think of having a vacation in A city?” Ye Qiyi looked at Gu Yiming strangely.
Gu Yiming smiled faintly, “Just thinking of going with you.”
Because of this one sentence from Gu Yiming, the smile on Ye Qiyi’s expression bloomed. She leaned into Gu Yiming’s embrace and responded out loud, “Okay.”
After Ye Mu had packed all her things, Mo Shen brought her to the park near Hua Jing District for a stroll.
It was slightly cool in the evening and Ye Mu’s clothes were a little thin. Not long after walking outside, she involuntarily raised her hand to draw her clothes closer to her body. But just when her hand touched the hem of her shirt, Mo Shen extended a large hand over to hold her hand while the other one grasped her shoulder as he encompassed her entire body in his embrace. Mo Shen was very tall, so as she stood in his arms, his embrace was enough to fully cover her.
“Are you very cold? “Mo Shen asked gently as he lowered his head to look at her.
After Ye Mu settled into his embrace, both of her legs subconsciously stiffened a little. Her heart started to beat unnaturally and when she heard Mo Shen’s voice, she lifted her head to glance at him before lowering it hurriedly, “A little.”
Ye Mu bit her red lips and her cheeks flushed red.
When she first saw Mo Shen, she only thought that he was an extremely handsome man. She hadn’t realized anything else but as time went on, the more she looked at Mo Shen, the more she felt that his appearance was outstanding—especially that pair of eyes. Ye Mu only had to look him in the eye and her heart would pound non-stop—as though a small deer had drilled into it and was running amok inside.
“Why is your face so red?” Mo Shen easily noticed Ye Mu’s flushed cheeks and he extended his large hand to probe.
Ye Mu stiffened completely and she coughed unnaturally, “Cough cough, no. Maybe it’s because it’s hot…”
“Hot?” Mo Shen raised his brow. Didn’t she just say that it was cold? This time it was hot?
“The sun sets really fast.” All of a sudden, Ye Mu pointed towards the sunset on the west side, trying to change the subject as soon as possible.
Looking down, under the sunset, an old couple strolled along the street hand in hand. The wrinkles carved on their faces showed the scale of their happiness. Ye Mu went into a short trance and thought, wasn’t this the kind of happiness she wanted—to walk together hand in hand with the one she loved?
She lowered her head to look at Mo Shen and her own shadow. She felt that she had grown older at this moment. If they could keep going like this, then she would be satisfied. Her eyes curved and the smile that appeared on her red lips looked particularly beautiful.
