Chapter 5: The Slightly Awkward Morning
Translator: Atlas Studios Editor: Atlas Studios
The morning at Hua Jing was exceptionally quiet, clear of any cacophony. Ye Mu laid on the bed, stretching out comfortably. As she groggily opened her eyes, she was suddenly shocked awake.
Last night, she had definitely been sleeping in the living room. Why was she in the bedroom?
While she was thinking and confused, the bedroom door was pushed open slightly and Mo Shen’s tall figure appeared in front of the door, “Morning.”
“Morning,” Ye Mu looked up at him in a daze. It turned out that she wasn’t dreaming; she had really gotten married! Furthermore, this man—who was so handsome that she couldn’t look away from him—was her husband!
Mo Shen’s thin lips curved. The usual indifference on his face was mixed with tenderness. He looked extremely charming, “Get up and have some breakfast.”
Slightly baffled, Ye Mu nodded her head.
After Mo Shen left the bedroom, she freshened up and went downstairs.
A simple Western-style breakfast was placed on the small kitchen table—the fried eggs were beautiful, its crispy yellow appearance looked very appetizing at a glance.
“These were all done by you?” Ye Mu was slightly surprised as she pulled the chair out to sit.
Mo Shen removed his apron and sat on the opposite side before smiling lightly, “I only know these dishes. I don’t know if you can get used to them.”
Ye Mu hurriedly waved her hand and even shook her head as she felt that she had troubled him, “It’s awfully good. I can’t even make something like this…”
Ye Mu mumbled the last sentence softly.
She only knew how to cook instant noodles and nothing else.
A gentle expression was all over Mo Shen’s face as he poured her a glass of milk and asked, “What time is the rehearsal?”
“10 o’clock.” Ye Mu was very satisfied as she ate the fried egg.
“I’ll send you over,” Mo Shen looked at her and instantly solved one of her problems.
Ye Mu did not reject his offer and sat silently on her seat, eating the breakfast that he made.
She couldn’t possibly refuse his offer because she still wasn’t familiar with Hua Jing’s neighborhood.
When they entered the district, Ye Mu was already confused with the twists and turns. Luckily, he was around to help her.
At the school gate, Ye Mu released her seatbelt and got out of the car, “Thank you.”
“Do you have to be this polite between us husband and wife?” Mo Shen propped a hand against the steering wheel while raising his eyebrow as he looked at Ye Mu.
Ye Mu bit her lips. She had forgotten her identity as a married woman again…
Looking at her slightly apologetic expression, Mo Shen sighed and changed the subject, “I’ll come to pick you up at night.”
“You don’t have to…”
“If I don’t come to fetch you, will you be able to find your way back?” A smile appeared at the corner of Mo Shen’s mouth. He had already discovered how muddle-headed she was this morning.
Ye Mu was somewhat uncomfortable and her face flushed with embarrassment.
Mo Shen raised his hand to look at his watch, not forgetting to remind her, “It’s 9:50 AM already. You only have 10 minutes now.”
“10 minutes…” When Ye Mu heard what he said, her eyes widened in shock. She couldn’t afford to delay any further as she hurriedly waved at him, “Then, I’ll go in first…”
After speaking, Ye Mu ran towards the gate.
Mo Shen’s smile widened as he watched her disappearing back profile. To think that she would still be so muddle-headed like she had been in the past!
Ye Mu urgently rushed to the small theater but she was still late by a few minutes. Several leading actors in the graduation drama had already started complaining.
“What the hell? Why are there so many people waiting for someone whose role isn’t even that vital?” The second female lead, Yan Shun’er bluntly threw Ye Mu a glare.
Ye Mu was indeed at fault for arriving late. She apologized, “I’m sorry, I’m late.”
“That’s enough! What? Can’t you guys perform without a single person? Hurry up, and go change into your costumes, now!” In the end, the teacher had to walk out of the backstage to disperse the crowd.
In the graduation drama, Ye Mu’s role was an old lady. With her role being so minor, she was in the same dressing room as the other extras from her class.
“Ye Mu, can you go to the lead dressing room next door and help me get a make-up brush? I’m altering my clothes now, so I can’t leave,” classmate Fang Tong patted Ye Mu on her shoulder as she requested.
Ye Mu had already drawn her make-up so she nodded her head, “Sure, I’ll go help you get it now.”
“Thank you, thank you,” Fang Tong smiled at Ye Mu and lowered her head to continue amending the costume that she was going to wear later in the drama.
Ye Mu walked near the dressing room next door and was about to lift her hand to knock on the door when suddenly… the conversation happening inside the room made her stop in her tracks.
“Hey, about this Ye Mu… does she think that young master Gu is still her boyfriend? What air does she think she is putting on? How ridiculous is it that someone with such a small supporting role would dare to be so late early in the morning?”
“No matter what people say, she is still the precious daughter of the Ye family—used to being pampered. How can she be compared to us who actually work hard and rely on ourselves for everything that we need?”
“What the… what kind of Ye family daughter is she? How many years have passed since her father died? Didn’t her father let her older uncle take over their family company? Hey, tell me… Is she really young master Gu’s fiancée or is she just bragging to save face?”
“I think it should be fake, right? Didn’t you watch that news interview? Ye Qiyi said that she and Gu Yiming had been together for about three to four years already! In fact, they are finally about to get their marriage certificate after being together for so long!”
“…”
Ye Mu listened with her head hung low, but she had no intention whatsoever to avoid them. She knocked on the door before twisting the door handle and walking into the room.
Yan Shun’er and the others who were in the middle of their conversation were taken aback by her entrance.
But Ye Mu didn’t seem to care about their conversation earlier as she picked up a make-up brush from the vanity table and explained, “I’m here for the make-up brush.”
Several girls who had been bad mouthing Ye Mu couldn’t help but feel ashamed. One of them glanced at Yan Shun’er with an awkward look of embarrassment on her face. But the latter coldly snorted and proceeded to ignore Ye Mu as she continued to do her make-up.
Ye Mu’s complexion didn’t look that good. Just as she returned from the dressing room, the drama teacher stopped her, “Ye Mu, come over here for a moment.”
“Is there anything that I can do?” Ye Mu walked over as she sorted out her emotions.
Teacher Wang was considered one of the best drama teachers in the country—he had always valued Ye Mu. He called Ye Mu over to discuss the play specifically, “Ye Mu, during the rehearsal, don’t forget to add these two lines.”
While speaking, Teacher Wang handed the script in his hand over to her, “Even though your character doesn’t have that much on-screen time, it is of utmost importance! After thinking it over, you are the only one in our class who has the acting skills to handle this role. You mustn’t disappoint me! You must properly grasp the climax’s scene…”
“I will, teacher…” Ye Mu swept her gaze seriously at the two lines before nodding her head.
Teacher Wang saw the solemn expression on Ye Mu’s face and he couldn’t help but let out a sigh, “With your talent, if you had—just the slightest bit of interest in entering the show business, you would definitely become a star.”
Teacher Wang’s words made Ye Mu tremble as the hands that held the script involuntarily tightened. She did love acting, but Gu Yiming’s mother was conservative and did not wish for her own daughter-in-law to appear in the limelight.
Furthermore, she disliked the prospects of having an actress as a daughter-in-law. But now that everything between her and Gu Yiming was over, she could now chase after her dreams.
“Teacher, don’t worry… I will work hard and do my best. I would never let you suffer any shame.” Ye Mu raised her head to smile at Teacher Wang, speaking with much certainty and confidence.
Astonished, Teacher Wang misunderstood and thought that Ye Mu was talking about this particular graduation drama, “It’s fine as long as you work hard.”
