The director frowned.
He was about to say something when the producer signaled to him with a gaze that gestured for him to take a seat.
The producer then turned around to face Ye Mu as he said politely, “Miss Ye, please go to the side to fill up your information. The script is on the table. Will ten minutes of preparation time be sufficient for Miss Ye?”
“That’s enough, thank you so much.” Ye Mu’s face was full of joy. She had really met a good person today!
While Ye Mu was preparing for the audition, the director directed an unhappy gaze at the producer, “Old Zhang, didn’t we agree beforehand that all the casting rights would belong to me as long as I am the director for ‘Beacon Heroes’?”
“You aren’t going to disappoint me and let someone in without my permission, right?”
Producer Zhang was also in a rock and a hard place.
Director Ma Yongchun was one of the country’s A-List Directors. He could not possibly offend Ma Yongchun, but he also couldn’t afford to not honor Mo Shen’s request. Left with no other choice, Producer Zhang decided to appease Director Ma first, “You’ve been in this industry for over ten years now. Can’t you see that she’s talented?”
“As long as you take this young lady, the ratings would definitely rise…”
“I don’t care whatever the background of this little girl is… I can let her audition. But she would have to leave as soon as the audition ends.” Ma Yongchun took a cigarette from the table and lighted it. His eyebrows tightly scrunched together in a frown.
Producer Zhang could only remain silent. He could still persuade him after the audition.
Ye Mu who had walked away to prepare for the audition finally returned with the script. She nervously glanced at the two before she bowed at them as a gesture of politeness.
Ma Yongchun already had a suitable candidate in mind. Not wanting to waste time, he said directly, “Let’s get started.”
Unfortunately, Ma Yongchun already had a suitable candidate in mind.
Not wanting to waste his time, he said directly, “Let’s get started.”
Ye Mu nodded and put down the script.
Taking a deep breath, Ye Mu’s expression slowly sharpened. With a powerful burst of hatred, she stared at the director in front of her as if he was her enemy! Despite her gentle tone of voice, the weight behind her words simply couldn’t be ignored!
“It’s easy for you to say that you just loved the wrong person? Hahaham have you ever thought that because of this so-called ‘loving the wrong person’, how many family members have I lost?” Ye Mu clenched her fists tightly and her eyes quickly turned red with that sentence!
The director who was casually smoking abruptly froze. He looked at Ye Mu for a moment before he stopped smoking altogether.
Ye Mu’s clenched fists loosened; her entire body slowly relaxed.
Taking a few steps back, her figure seemed to wobble as she laughed in a self-deprecating and heart-breaking manner, “Hahaha… You’re saying that you love me now? Why did you not say that when you abandoned me?”
“Yang Linqing, let me tell you this—no matter what you say today. I will not follow you!”
“You can look down on vigilantes, you can look down on Madam Ya Sai, but at least they lived a cleaner life than you! At least, their hands were stained with the blood of the people who deserved their deaths!”
“What about you?”
Ye Mu’s body kept trembling like a sieve when she suddenly lowered her head.
Ma Yongchun’s pair of astute eyes stared intently at Ye Mu’s every move. When she lifted her head once more, her face was full of tears. The expression of love and hate on her face made Ma Yongchun see the shadow of Song Qiniang from the script—it was as if Ye Mu had turned into Song Qiniang and there was practically no difference between the two!
“You disgust me!” Ye Mu said in misery and agony. Then—with a firm and carefree gaze—she followed, “Love? I wish I could drink your blood!”
…
Ye Mu had completed the performance by herself without the need of other actors.
But the impact she brought was no less than the kind of impact a conversation between two people could bring about.
Ye Mu was still a little emotional after the end of her performance. Wiping the tears on her face, she squeezed a smile at the director, “Thank you for the opportunity.”
The staff members in the audition room stared at Ye Mu in a daze. Ye Mu’s gaze swept across the audience and when she noticed that they were staring at her in shock. She felt as if she had done something wrong.
But before she could even think about it, the director recovered from his trance. He stood up and applauded her for her performance. A look of excitement was plastered across his face for he knew that she was the Song Qiniang that he was looking for.
“Fantastic! Young lady, your acting was on point!”
“Thank you, director!” Ye Mu smiled in delight and quickly bowed as a gesture of appreciation after hearing the praise.
“But I want to know… why did you not audition for the first female lead instead of the second female lead?” The director looked at Ye Mu with unmasked approval as he asked curiously.
Ye Mu bit her lips and replied frankly, “I think that the first female lead is too deep and dark, I don’t think I can take on that role with my experience.”
Her honesty made the director nod in satisfaction and he could not help but ask her more, “So, who do you think is more suitable for the first female lead role for this drama in the entire entertainment industry?”
“Bai Xiao,” Ye Mu blurted out without even thinking about it.
The producer and the director could not help but smile at each other after hearing her words.
The director smiled, “You are very discerning. The first female lead in this drama is Bai Xiao.”
Ye Mu was startled. Her pair of tender eyes were filled with surprise. Bai Xiao was her idol. She would be more than happy to act with her idol in a drama.
“Miss Ye, congratulations,” said the director as he reached out his hand to Ye Mu for a handshake; his face filled with admiration.
Ye Mu became filled with joy.
When she walked out of the lobby, she still couldn’t calm down her nerves even after she returned to Mo Shen’s car and eagerly shared the piece of good news to him, “Young Uncle, I’ve succeeded! I made it!”
Mo Shen saw Ye Mu’s excitement and his thin lips curved into a smile. Using the same gentle tone that he had always reserved for her, he said, “Congratulations.”
“Thank you!”
Ye Mu’s clear bright eyes displayed her joy, and the smile on her lips emphasized it. As they were on their way back to the mansion, she proceeded to tell Mo Shen about what had happened during the audition.
“The audition was already over when I arrived. I was too late. Luckily, the producer helped me convince the director, so I managed to give it a try.” Remembering what the producer had done, Ye Mu felt incredibly lucky as she leaned her body against the seat, “To think that there are still so many good people in this world…”
“Are there?” Mo Shen’s gaze turned to her innocent face—his smile deepened.
“Of course! ” Ye Mu said with certainty.
The car drove back to Hua Jing district. The audition had concluded after midnight, and despite it being so late in the night, Ye Mu was still full of energy. She studied the script that she had received today.
How could she not be excited when she was now one step closer to her dreams?
“All right, it’s time for you to sleep. Don’t forget about the graduation show tomorrow.” Mo Shen walked over with large steps and removed the script from her hands as he reminded her of the event tomorrow.
Ye Mu stretched and the smile on her face had not faded. She was happy just thinking about what had happened today. It was probably the luckiest she had been in the past few years. Even when she was sleeping, Ye Mu’s still had a smile on her red lips.
Ye Mu stretched her body and the smile on her face still hadn’t faded. She felt too happy just thinking about what had happened today. Tonight was probably the luckiest that she had ever been in the past few years.
Even as she slept, the smile on her red lips remained.
Mo Shen laid beside her and supported his body with his arm. He stared at Ye Mu’s sleeping visage. Raising his hand, he stroked Ye Mu’s long hair that had partially covered her face, “I wish you can be as innocent as you are today, forever.”
Then, he bent over and planted a light kiss on her forehead.
Ye Mu had countless sweet dreams that night.
In this large and empty house, she inexplicably slept in peace.
Morning came and Ye Mu groggily opened her eyes.
She wasn’t fully awake yet.
But when she felt the sensation of someone’s hand brushing through her hair, she looked up and her sleepiness disappeared. She discovered that she had been sleeping in Mo Shen’s embrace. Both of her arms were wrapped tightly around his waist.
“Good morning.” Mo Shen’s eyebrows slightly raised at her. His lips curved into a smile that carried with it a force that penetrated through Ye Mu’s heart.
He seemed to be awake for quite a while now, for there was no trace of sleepiness hidden in his pair of deep eyes.
Ye Mu’s cheeks quickly flushed with crimson as her heart pounded against her chest. She bit her lips and quickly let go of his waist before she greeted him in a voice that sounded more like a mosquito’s droning, “Good morning…”
