“They are… barbarians?” The smile on Xue Yue’s face gradually disappeared and he instantly became worried. According to movies and dramas, there were still some barbarians in this world who ate humans.
Some reports would often mention tourists, adventurers captured by barbarian tribes to be eaten… and it was a common occurrence!
Eating humans!
“It would be very troublesome if I were to be discovered by these barbarians! This won’t do. I’d better hide first and observe from the sidelines before acting!” As he thought of a plan, Xue Yue looked around and turned to climb up the mountain ridge on his right.
The small valley was surrounded by steep mountains and the trees were very lush. Therefore, normally he would not be discovered if he hid there as long as he did not make any sound. Xue Yue hid behind a cluster of dense shrubs and completely covered himself. There were lush trees all around and he only revealed his head to look at the beach.
Whoosh, whoosh—
The waves struck against the beach and crashing sounds could be heard. There were dozens of seabirds in the search for food on the beach, crabs walking sideways and leaving a string of footprints.
Xue Yue did not have to wait long and in a short while, several canoes docked on the beach. Seventeen to eighteen barbarians jumped off and released weird sounds before they pulled the canoe onto the beach together.
All the barbarians had spears in their hands, while their faces were painted with messy oil colors. They had dark skin and only a few of them wore animal skins to cover their lower body, leaving a few others to be naked.
Rough, uncivilized, and filled to the brim with wild nature!
“Eh?”
Xue Yue’s gaze suddenly concentrated in their direction. He was shocked to see the two individuals who jumped off the canoe at the end. They were a man and a woman who did not seem too old as they appeared puerile. The man was handsome while the woman was beautiful.
However, both of them were in a terrible mess, with dirt on their faces and their hands tied behind their backs. They were escorted to the beach by four barbarians holding onto a spear each. The man was still cursing whereas the woman sobbed in a low voice.
Most importantly, both of them had fair skin!
A man and a woman had been brought to a deserted island like this by the barbarians. What were they intending to do with them?
“???”
At that moment, one of the barbarians pointed towards the surrounding woods and muttered a bunch of words Xue Yue could not understand. After which, except for the four barbarians who were holding onto the man and woman, the remaining barbarians had scattered.
“What are they planning to do?”
Xue Yue hid behind the bush and held his breath, for fear that he would release a sound. His eyes were looking at those barbarians and saw these thirteen to fourteen men entering the woods to collect firewood, and dead branches, appearing extremely happy.
Are they planning to create a fire? Xue Yue thought. Fortunately, the place he hid was relatively high and they only moved around the lower woods to gather firewood. As a result, they had not discovered his existence. Or else…
Their speed of collecting firewood was very quick. In a short period of time, they had more or less gathered sufficient firewood and all of them returned to the beach one by one to pile up what they collected.
“What the…”
Just then, the leader barbarian had said something and two barbarians suddenly pushed the white woman onto the ground while another barbarian walked towards her with a stone dagger in his hand.
The white woman was already scared witless long ago and cried while she struggled. She was screaming with all her might with two barbarians holding onto her on the ground, it was futile no matter how she struggled.
“What the f*ck! They are…”
Xue Yue was shocked speechless and his eyes suddenly widened. The scene before him made him think of a possibility. “These barbarians have brought them here to kill and eat them?!?!”
Sure enough, he saw the barbarian pressing the dagger against her neck and the skillful movements and indifferent gaze were of no difference to killing a wild animal.
“How can they kill a human?!”
Xue Yue was instantly shocked. Despite the fact that he already came to this guess long ago, he was still shocked to the extreme when he saw them taking action.
“Stop! I must stop them! I cannot watch on and let the girl die regardless of anything!’
“Stop—”
With thoughts racing through his mind, Xue Yue did not even think as he shouted out loud. He then jumped out of the bush and appeared on the beach under the mountains with a few leaps.
Be it the group of barbarians or the woman, none of them expected someone else to be here on this deserted island. All of them turned to look at Xue Yue and were all slightly stunned!
In particular, the barbarian with a dagger who wanted to kill the woman was so scared that his right hand trembled. The dagger brushed against the woman’s neck and left a red mark.
As for the woman pressed onto the ground, her eyes brightened the moment she saw Xue Yue as if she had seen her savior. She then screamed out, “Help! Save me! Please save me…”
Of course, she spoke in English!
“Release her!” Xue Yue stationed himself ten meters away from the barbarians and clenched his fists tightly. He looked them in the eye and forced himself to calm down.
“???”
The barbarians were somewhat alarmed by Xue Yue who suddenly appeared, but after they saw that he was alone, they were calmed down in an instant. All of them looked at Xue Yue with unscrupulous gazes, as if they were looking at a prey.
“???”
There was no need for any communication and seven to eight barbarians had taken up their spears on the ground. Following which, they encircled Xue Yue with a tacit understanding, similar to how they hunted in the forest.
Glup…
Xue Yue swallowed his saliva and even his palms started to sweat. It was a lie to say he was not nervous with seven to eight barbarians gathering around him. However, in a time of life and death crisis, Xue Yue grabbed a stone from the ground and with all his strength, threw it towards the barbarian closest to him.
Whoosh—
With a loud whoosh, the fist sized small stone was instantly thrown out and directly smashed against the barbarian’s chest. The sound of a bone fracture could be heard and at the same time, the barbarian screamed as he flew out.
Crack!
He flew three to four meters away. After he landed on the ground, the barbarian spat out a mouthful of blood and remained motionless. As for that piece of stone, it smashed into his chest, left a gaping hole and got embedded inside.
“???”
The sudden scene had instantly stunned all the barbarians as their fear flashed through their eyes and their footsteps had also slowed down considerably.
“Come one! Come catch me if you have the guts, you group of scum!”
When he saw that a stone he casually threw had contained so much power, Xue Yue immediately reacted. That’s right, right now my body is not what it used to be, so what’s there to be afraid of a few barbarians?
When he thought of that, Xue Yue’s confidence greatly increased. He then randomly picked up another stone and walked towards the remaining barbarians.
“???”
The barbarians looked at each other and then at the approaching Xue Yue. Alas, one of them could no longer suppress the fear in their hearts and ran away with a weird cry.
The saying ‘troops in defeat like a landslide’ referred to this. The moment one ran, it caused a chain reaction and one by one, the remaining barbarians released a weird cry and escaped towards their canoes.
The barbarian who escaped the fastest had pulled the canoe towards the sea. Upon entering the waters, he flipped and climbed on top of it before rowing desperately, without a care for the people behind him. It was as if he was afraid he would lose a leg.
In a short period of time, all the barbarians had escaped, leaving a corpse remaining on the beach and Xue Yue could vagule see a few canoes in the sea.
“Wuu, wuuu, wuu—”
Having escaped from death, the white woman could no longer suppress her fear as she sobbed in a low voice.
Out of helplessness, Xue Yue could only walk over and untie the ropes on her hands. Just as he was about to untie the man, the girl had unexpectedly thrown her arms around him. Her pair of fair arms tighty encircled Xue Yue’s neck and she burst into tears.
Xue Yue had never even held onto a girl’s hands at his age, not to mention getting hugged. Even though he had excellent academic achievements, a handsome appearance and there were many girls who had a crush on him, he was still a pure guy.
“This… Er…”
Xue Yue’s face turned red and he stammered. He also had no idea where to put his hands.
However, both of them did not notice the white man standing not far away from them. When he witnessed that scene, his handsome face turned gloomy and his eyes narrowed, appearing like a poisonous snake.
After staying in Xue Yue’s arms for ten minutes, the white woman’s emotions gradually stabilized. Her eyes were also slightly red and swollen. “Thank you for saving me. I’m really thankful!”
“You’re welcome, you’re welcome!” Xue Yue scratched his head and his face was still somewhat hot. He then shyly said, “Erm, you should rest first. I’ll release your companion.”
“Thomas?” The girl blanked out and finally recalled her companion as she hastily ran over.
“Hello, I’m Thomas. Thanks for saving me!” Thomas rubbed his reddish wrists caused by the rope and revealed a warm smile as he thanked Xue Yue with a smile.
“You’re welcome!”
“My name is Helen Athena, thank you again for saving our lives,” the white woman said. “Hero, what’s your name?”
“You can call me Xue Yue!”
The man and woman spoke in English and Xue Yue had no choice but to converse with them in the same language. Fortunately, he had a strong foundation in language, and even managed to score 147 in his college entrance examination. However, his speech was slightly crude but it posed no problem to communicate.
“Xue Yue, are you Chinese?” Helen revealed her true nature after there was no threat to her life. Similar to many white girls, she was cheerful, bold, and pulled Xue Yue over to ask questions.
“Yep, I’m Chinese!” Xue Yue answered.
“Oh, so you’re Chinese! In fact, to be accurate, I am a mixed-blood with three quarters from Chinese descent!” Helen was somewhat surprised knowing Xue Yue was Chinese and her pair of large, beautiful eyes seemed to speak on their own. “My grandfather is Chinese, my grandmother is caucasian and so, my mother is of half Chinese descent. My father is pure Chinese!”
Xue Yue slightly blanked out. Shouldn’t the parents of your mother be called grandpa and grandma? Why is it grandfather and grandmother? Could it be that Helen’s father married into the family? It is usually the female side that marries into the male’s family…
But it was rather rude to ask this question out loud and Xue Yue could only smile and nod. He was considered lucky to have encountered someone from his ‘hometown’ on such a deserted island!
“Xue Yue, why are you on this deserted island?” Perhaps it was because she had been rescued by this teenager, Helen had a favorable feeling towards Xue Yue. Or perhaps it was because she had not spoken comfortably for a long time, she was currently very talkative.
