Because of Tang Fu, the military gave Tang Ye a day off.
He didn’t have to rush back to the base, so Chen Lan held his hand and walked around the county city.
They began by having lunch at a small restaurant and then ventured into a department store.
Tang Ye didn’t have any opinion about it and simply allowed Chen Lan to pull him along the entire time.
He knew that Chen Lan had been pampered by her family since childhood and didn’t have a strong concept of money. He initially assumed she had her eye on some clothes or jewelry again. However, he was surprised when Chen Lan directly led him into a men’s clothing shop.
“Why are we here? I don’t need more clothes,” Tang Ye said, briefly surprised, and then gently pulled Chen Lan aside. After their marriage, there wasn’t much money left, and he knew that Chen Family had given her some money, but that was her savings. How could she spend it on him?
“You have the same military uniform in your wardrobe, all looking identical. If others find out, they might think I’m mistreating you,” Chen Lan pouted and held Tang Ye’s arm. “Be good and listen to me. Yesterday when I was shopping for fabric with Wen Jing, I saw several nice outfits. You’ll look great in them.”
Chen Lan’s voice was soft and sweet, and even though Tang Ye still felt he didn’t need new clothes, he allowed her to pull him into the shop.
Chen Lan seemed to have scoped out the store in advance and quickly picked out a few clothes, gesturing and showing them to Tang Ye.
Each piece of clothing appeared quite ordinary on its own, but when paired with Tang Ye’s deep and handsome face, they all looked refined and sophisticated.
Chen Lan inwardly thought that being good-looking made everything look good on him. She could buy any clothes.
“Boss, wrap these up for me,” Chen Lan thought of his empty wardrobe and waved her hand casually to signal that she wanted all of them.
“Wait!” Tang Ye hurriedly intervened when he saw this and reached for Chen Lan’s hand. “I don’t need so many clothes. I know Uncle Chen must have given you money. You should keep it for yourself.”
She smiled, “I don’t want it. I just enjoy buying things for you.”
Looking around and seeing that no one was watching, she tiptoed and planted a kiss on Tang Ye’s cheek. He froze on the spot, his face turning completely red.
She took advantage of the opportunity to go to the counter, had the boss wrap up all the clothes, paid for them, and then came back to take Tang Ye’s hand. “Done shopping. Let’s go somewhere else. Tomorrow, we’re going to my house, and today we’ve bought everything we need. It saves us from having to come back tomorrow, in case some stores are closed. It would be a waste of time.”
At the mention of returning to her home, Tang Ye also became more attentive.
After marriage, visiting the wife’s family was a significant tradition, and he needed to prepare proper gifts. In local customs, the more a husband values his new wife, the more valuable the gifts should be. He had to reassure Uncle Chen and the others that he would treat Chen Lan well.
Both of them visited several more stores, carefully selecting gifts for each family member according to their preferences.
She wanted to pay, but Tang Ye took out the money first to pay. How could he let a woman pay at a time like this?
“There’s no need to be so particular. On the second day of our wedding, you handed over your passbook to me. What’s the point of distinguishing between your money and mine?”
Her words made his heart tremble involuntarily. He looked at Chen Lan, his eyes showing surprise and a hint of curiosity. He still couldn’t understand why her personality had changed so drastically overnight.
Chen Lan had no idea what he was thinking.
Thinking of how she had asked Song Lian and Du Jiang to have dinner at their place in the evening, she took Tang Ye to the market and bought a chicken, a slab of pork ribs, and some vegetables.
After an afternoon of shopping, Chen Lan had satisfied her shopping desires but couldn’t help feeling a bit of regret when she saw her dwindling wallet. She couldn’t help but feel the pinch. That five million yuan was no small sum.
Her heart ached, however, she knew that these purchases were necessary, and if she ever ran out of money, she would work hard to earn more.
The two of them finally caught the last bus back to town.
By the time they arrived at the military family housing area, it was already dark. They spotted a person leaning against the entrance, smoking a cigarette. The red tip of the cigarette glowed intermittently in the darkness.
“Ol’ Du?” Tang Ye’s sharp eyes, honed through night shooting training in the military, allowed him to recognize the person even in this dim light.
“Tang Ye, sister-in-law, you’ve finally come back!” Du Jiang rushed over at the sound of their voices, looking relieved as if he had seen a savior.
